I thought I would take a chance and book a mystery overnight accommodation and it ended up being Mantra on Northbourne, Canberra. The price was very reasonable and we ended up with a 1 bedroom apartment with washing machine, dryer, full kitchen and it goes on. We were both completely happy and definitely will return one day.

Great central Hotel to stay at in Canberra. Rooms/apartments are large and spacious, well equipped kitchens and all you need for a long stay. Nice and clean, friendly staff, good room service menu and we enjoyed our meals. Easy walk into the city center.

First of all the bed was comfortable. That's the only good thing I can say. Our room had mould in the bathroom, the airconditioner rattled and we had to have it turned up to 30 to get any kind of warmth. The TV remote fell apart in my hands and we could only change stations in one direction. Worse, I left the pieces on the desk and when I came home that evening they were exactly where I left them, indicating that the desk was not cleaned. The room was terribly noisy with trucks outside from 4 am and breakfast was cold, runny eggs (which I am sure are a health violation when they get that cold) and greasy bacon. I ended up eating only toast and a cup of tea. I definitely would not recommend this hotel.

Dear PikabuSydney, Thank you for the review of your time at Mantra on Northbourne. We were sorry to hear that your experience was a disappointment, this is certainly not our aim. From the mould in the bathroom, to the TV remote and air conditioning, these items are definitely below our usual standard and we sincerely apologise for this. We can assure that you that we have rectifed these issues and are chaecking to ensure there are no similar issues in other rooms. We are also constantly looking for improvements in our breakfast buffet, so we will be ensuring the standard is lifted here too. Many thanks again, we do appreciate your feedback. Kind regards Sally Phipps Mantra on Northbourne

Stayed on the 9th level and was great to have nice view. Reception on arrival was very flat and very unwelcoming. The room was very clean and presentable. How ever the trip was soured by the lack of car spaces and so many 'reserved' spaces not being used. I had a lot of trouble finding a park, i was charged for parking for my time there and yet couldn't get a park. This was not communicated with me upon arrive that there is limited parking and if i had know that i had to park out on the back streets i would of went else where, part of the appeal was secure parking.

Stayed here for a week for a conference in April - nothing spectacular but it was okay. You pay for what you get - and this place is pretty reasonable. I had a kettle/fridge in my room. Ironing board and iron - no kitchenette. If I was on holiday or with my family/partner I would opt for something a little nicer. I would rate it a little higher than average but not quite 'very good' so 3.5/5....

Stayed in a studio apartment for a one-night stay. Room is spacious and clean, and no bad smells. Bed was comfy. I didn't have the chance to use the kitchette but it was functional with stove, big fridge, pot & pans etc. Continental Breakfast was "hotel pricey" and the restaurant was packed. But the coffee was decent and you could grab a free newspaper from the lobby. Major negative was the shower. You know when you turn the hot water on and its cold, so you let it run for a bit, confident that it will come hot. It didn't. Overall this is a reasonably priced hotel (by Australian standards, which means... its not cheap), with minimal Mantra frills, i.e. user pays. Pros- very central within Canberra. The Coffee. Negatives- no free WiFi. When will hotels LEARN?? (i.e. in

Hair dryer & kettle out of date with electrical checks... Wouldn't normally worry but hair dryer sparked while drying my daughter's hair. Reception's response was NOT 'sorry' or 'is everyone ok?', but I don't know if we have another one and then left me on hold for 10 minutes before having to then wait another 15 mins for one to arrive. When my husband went to reception to complain, the duty manager fussed around at the desk trying to avoid him. Lousy indoor pool with poor ventilation, no clean towels & limited seating area to supervise children. Plus- good location. About 2 blocks to restaurants. Won't stay again.

Dear Roaming Scholar, Thank you for your review in regards to your experience at Mantra on Northbourne. We sincerely apologise for the electrical spark that you received from a hair dryer in your apartment. We also apologise for not being able to make contact with you personally to date. We have tried several times to make contact via phone, but to no avail, as we realise the severity of your experience with us and wish to rectify the situation directly with you. We can assure you that whilst the tags on the appliances themselves were slightly out of date, our error was to have left them on the appliances as we conduct RCD testing, which is a step further that just testing and tagging of electrical products. We are more than happy and feel that it is important to provide verification of this up to date testing to show that we are compliant in this area. In regards to the follow up service you received, whilst we can admit that this could have been handled better, we can assure you that it is not due to negligence. Our Manager on Duty that night was certainly not trying to avoid your husband, but trying to collect the information necessary in order to deal with your situation effectively. Again, we apologise for your experience, yours is certainly not one that we aim for. Our team has learned from this experience and I am confident that this situation will not occur in the future. Kindest regards, Sally Phipps Operations Manager Mantra on Northbourne
