Can't say enough good things about this hotel. The only really comfortable and well-run place to stay in Mazeri, a quiet alternative to touristy Mestia and disappointingly dirty Ushguli. Location is superb with views to Mount Ushba and the southern Caucasus range. The lovely cook Temona kept producing fresh bread every day and lovely cakes which she forced upon us. Huge packed lunches kept us going on day hikes. Dinners were devine and room extremely comfortable. We stayed three days, spent a night in Mestia and came back for another four. Mazeri being superior in every way for scenery and the amount of day hikes. Would recommend Mount Mazeri and the ruins of Gul village and well as meadow bashing to the villages below Mazeri. Only hiccup was the driver not turning up to take us to Mestia for the early morning bus but we made it anyway.…
Pretty nice hotel in the calm place. Want to come back once. Locals are hospitable. The food is good as well. We spent great time in the first two weeks of May. Love walking around. Advise to try the mineral water from the nearest source. Many thanks.
It is a perfect place for trekking or hiking Caucasus. Richard - the multi-language owner do everything to make your stay as good as possible. They offer fabulous meals prepared by Svanetian Cook. I recommend it for everyone that likes nature and calm far away from a civilisation
The views are positively unworldly. The rooms are elegantly and simply decorated. The food is really tasty - the breakfasts being large enough to propel you up Mount Ushba. The staff are friendly and full of local knowledge - particularly about every level of hiking and walking. The quiet is such that you could sleep for a week.
I thought the cost was too much for what you get. The dinner was 28 lari and included some soup with eggplant, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes, then more soup with meat added, then tea, coffee and a biscuit. Not very impressive for 28 lari! Bathroom is shared. Nice setting in the middle of nowhere. Nice porch to sit out on and read. Nice staff that speak English well. Nice dining room. Breakfast is included.
This hotel is wonderful! What stood out to me the most was the food--the dishes were local and absolutely superb. It was amazingly well-prepared (most especially the dinner!) and in a beautiful setting. It was a highlight of my Svaneti stay and better than most of the food I've had at restaurants in Tbilisi. The hotel proprietor is attentive, professional, and passionate about Svaneti (he co-wrote an entire book about it) and about his hotel. He also speaks English well, which is so hard to find in Georgia. The room was cozy and clean. Although accommodations are simple, the quality definitely exceeds anything place else I've stayed in the Svaneti area. As a heads up, the property is isolated and not within easy walking distance of Mestia or any other village (which many people find to be a plus, but just wanted people to know what to expect).…
Best place for hikers climbers skiers and just lazy sleep lovers))) U need to try it, u need to visit Guli glacier, Ushba glacier, mezir lake, and have a fish from the river with red dots))) And Super good evening !!!!
My husband and I have had tones of wonderful moments at Mazeri and Grand Ushba Hotel. Mazeri is the most beautiful place I ever visited and this hotel was just perfect. Richard, the owner, is very helpfull and make our trip even better. The dinner is always a surprise (very good) I definetly recommend this hotel.
Grand Hotel Ushba looks more like a hostel or guest house. It is main discrepancy! The cost is 3 times more compare with similar quality of guest house in Mestia. For 2 rooms we paid 165 +240 GEL. In Mestia we paid 90 GEL for 3 persons. If you understand that you stay in guest house, not in Grand Hotel , everything is understandable, except the price. Yes, I can accept mouse, which all night loudly gnaw the wall. I can accept the absence of electricity. Only when I ask to switch on generator, they start to do it. Why they doesn`t before, when all of people wake up in the morning? Yes,I can accept roughness of the owner. But why I need to pay for that 3 times more?!!! A little bit of positive moments. Yes! Very few of them. 1) View on mountain Ushba, especially by night. Unbelievable! 2) Richard - manager, very kindly man 3) good breakfast 4) Tarzan - big, quiet and very friendly dog.…
We have been a group of 6, 4 doubles and 2 singles. The doubles were okay, but the singles didn't have a private bathroom (although booked!) and looked over the terrace with the ping pong table. Bathrooms were one floor down. The rooms were rather sticky. One of the singles asked reception for a tent so he could sleep outside, and got it. It was much better than the room. The food wasn't really good, and all in all the hotel is overpriced, it was the most expensive and least enjoyable of our Swanetian hotels in 10 days. We left after 2 nights and found a much better place. The setting of the hotel is beautiful.
