Hotel Anna, opened in 2002, is a small, family-run 3-star hotel, with only 7 rooms. Each of our seven rooms has private facilities, TV, a telephone, and free WIFI, and is individually furnished to a high standard, in keeping with the traditional style of the farm, the childhood home of the author Anna from Moldnupur, whose books were popular in the 1950s. After a day out immersed in the natural wonders of the region, Hotel Anna is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the high level of personal service we know our guests deserve. You can relax in our hot tub, stroll up the hill behind the hotel for the scenic view, or meet the friendly Icelandic horses in the fields all around.

In this section of the country, there is rather little development, just the occasional cluster of buildings forming either a hamlet where people live, or a set of buildings used as accommodations for tourists. This one is a mix of both. You pull off the main highway and drive a km along a road that parallels the main road. Off of this are long driveways to separate accommodations as well as to a tiny hamlet that contains a church, cemetery and a tractor museum. Nearby is also a tiny waterfall. The location definitely makes you feel you're away from things and is quiet although while we were there, it was terribly windy, so much so, it could be difficult to walk if you went against the wind. There were lots of horses around, and while fenced in, could get pretty close to the apartments allowing you to pet them.

This hotel has a main building with a restaurant, breakfast room, lounge and hotel rooms, then two separate buildings containing the apartments. We stayed in an apartment. These felt felt very new as everything was in good condition, with no visible wear and tear. Each apartment contained a bathroom, a bed room then a separate kitchen/dining room containing a small table, 3 chairs, a love seat, a kitchenette with a small fridge, hot plate, microwave and sink. The cupboards had a small selection of dishes. Except for salt and pepper, there were no other condiments or common items, not even tea or coffee. You could however bum some tea or coffee from the reception. If you plan to cook your own meals, stock up beforehand, as the closest grocery store is a 25 minute drive. There are however gas station convenience stores with a very limited selection about 15 minutes away.

There are two outdoor hot tubs, with no roof, but a brick wall providing a measure of privacy and protection from the wind which was excessive at 40mph or so.

The restaurant was quite good, the food was prepared and presented well and the main dining room had character, feeling like a country inn. We stayed two nights and ate there twice. A little disappointed that the specials stayed the same both nights, but otherwise, there was enough variety on the menu for non-vegetarians to not get bored. For vegetarians though, they had a pasta dish, and then the second night, a pasta dish with a different sauce so not so exciting for them. The service was good and the restaurant goes out of its way to provide local food options.

We chose to stay at Country Hotel Anna based on the good reviews and great location on the South Coast. From this location, we could easily visit the major waterfalls and other sites on the coast. We planned a day trip to the Westman Islands and Hotel Anna served us perfectly to get to the ferry in the morning. We stayed in the newer, guest houses that are separate from the main lodge. The guest rooms are clean, comfortable large, and have a small kitchenette. My arctic char for supper in the historic dining room was excellent. We ordered breakfast al la carte and it was delicious eggs, fruit, bread, yogurt and more.

The rooms were exceptionally clean - Hot tub was phenomenal, they also provided robes to venture out to the tub. View was spectacular. Breakfast was delicious and they had everything you could want. Country doesn't really describe the rooms, they are modern with heated bathroom floors if you stay in one of the cottages. The main area is vintage Iceland, cozy, comfy and an all around delight to experience. Stay here if you want a wonderful nights rest and an amazing staff that go out of their way to help you!

Everything was great! We checked in to nicely decorated rooms and experienced a tasty dinner and good service. I had been driving in difficult conditions and was exhausted, so I decided to have an early night.

I noticed that I could hear the guests waking around in the room above me. I fell asleep. Then I was woken every one of two hours as the inconsiderate guests kept going out to try to see the Northern Lights. This turned into torture. I got up to find a white noise video on youtube and put earplugs in, but even this couldn't stop the noise of the thudding noises coming through the ceiling.

I was looking forward to staying here, but after one night I was very angry and completely exhausted. And it wasn't cheap!

I know they can't help it if inconsiderate guests are staying. But there were no notices to be quiet in the night. Also, how much does it cost for a bit of soundproofing on the floor?

Although it was January in Iceland, I wish had slept in my car. Never again!

Hotel Anna was a great place to stay while exploring the south coast of Iceland, Conveniently located to the Ferry terminal that links to Westmann Islands and the Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui waterfalls among other attractions. The breakfast was ioncluded and awesome and they made it earlier for me upon request becuase I need to catch an earlier glacier guided hike. For dinner the restaurant closes at 8:30PM so I only got to enjoy it once. Highly recommended but keep in mind that's located in a peaceful small hamlet with few shops/restaurants that stay open late at night.

Our family stayed in two adjacent Apartments (Nos. 15 and 14) at Hotel Anna for three nights at the end of July. Our stay here was the highlight of our vacation. The location alone is worth the price: this is a lovely farm (with friendly horses!) in the middle of nowhere in beautiful South Iceland. The hotel is on a side road off of Route 1, in between Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss (the two most famous waterfalls in the South). If you are coming from Reykjavik, it will be about 15 minutes past Sel. and about 10 minutes before Sko. The address given is Hvolsvollur, but it's really about 20 minutes to the east of Hvolsvollur. (So if you plan to shop in the Kronan there, know that you may as well stop before arriving at Anna.) You see mountains all around you, and there is a serenity and peacefulness to this quiet and secluded area. We also found some beautiful nature walks nearby, including a gorge with a bridge just past the nearby church.

The Apartments themselves are new and very well maintained; they are also spacious. If you want to self-cater, they are perfect as there is a small stove, refrigerator, and microwave, as well as shelves with basic kitchen items. There are fenced-in horses on one side of the Apartments. The main hotel itself, where Reception and the restaurant are, is a very short walk away. The staff is fantastic: each person we interacted with was very courteous, kind, and helpful. I want to single out the property manager, Octavian, who patiently answered all my emails over many months before our visit. Thank you!

If you are looking to spend some time in South Iceland (and who wouldn't be?), make sure Hotel Anna is on your itinerary. Whether you're staying as a couple in the lovely hotel rooms or as a family in the Apartments, this hotel will be the source of memories that will last a lifetime. Though we are back home in NY now, we are already planning our next visit to Iceland and Hotel Anna!

The staff at this hotel were the friendliest staff you'll find in Iceland. Everything about this hotel was great. Without a doubt would stay here again. The lobby was beautiful, the check-in and check-out couldn't be smoother. The room where breakfast was served was just as fantastic with all kinds of artwork and history on the walls. The room was apartment style with a living area, sofa, TV, kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom. Tons of storage space for luggage. There are a few apartments in each "strip" on the property. The property also has a nice hot pot for soaking and took advantage of that both nights. The view from the room was nice as well. The bathroom was clean and the shower was great. There is plenty of free parking in the parking lot next to the rooms. No complaints at all.

I loved this place. It has a warmth about it that is simply lacking in many other hotels. Our room in the hotel (not one of the apartments) was huge - twice the size of most suites. The bed was very comfortable, and it was dead quiet all night except when a large group passed through. There is an elevated outside hot tub with a 360 degree view of the sky and mountains, where we soaked one evening under the stars and northern lights. Internet was slow but workable. Service everywhere was excellent. The dining room has great views, served a very good breakfast, and a well presented dinner, although the cod dish was good, rather than fantastic. There's a terrific hike behind the hotel towards the glacier which was good exercise, but not technically challenging. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed this place, and will be back.

A nicely located ‘boutique ‘ hotel with a great restaurant conveniently located for waterfalls and stunning scenery nicely set back offthe ring road and only about 40 mins from Vik . The rooms in the main hotel are a bit old school and flowery in style rather than traditional Icelandic -and could do with a little remodelling . The new annex rooms are better if you want a more Nordic vibe. Otherwise very friendly and welcoming team with a good breakfast. The wild goose burger in the restaurant was awesome and the child’s burger very generous in size . Highly rated all the food we had. Slight gripe the hot tubs were a little green with algae but the views stunning .

This is a small comfortable hotel with a very helpful and friendly staff and excellent food in their restaurant. We stayed there 2 nights and would certainly choose to go back there again in a future visit. The location is a very good one in southern Iceland - great scenery, close to a couple of the major waterfalls and to one of the jumping off point for 4WD tours to the Þórsmörk valley and vicinity.
