Livernano is a truly ancient place. It was first inhabited by Etruscans, whose culture reached its high-point in Tuscany over 2500 years ago, around 500BC. The hamlet was later occupied by the Romans, who gave it its name. Long after the cessation of Roman rule, Livernano served as a fortified border post during the interminable wars of the two great mediaeval city states in Tuscany, Siena and Florence. Our small, beautifully preserved Romanesque church dates back to the 11th century. In the 17th century, when the territorial wars between Siena and Florence had finally come to an end, Livernano turned into a quiet farming village. At the end of WWII, when the ancient system of share-cropping (mezzadria) was abandoned, Tuscany suffered grinding poverty. The beautiful countryside, tended by humans for millennia, became almost entirely depopulated. The last farmers left Livernano in 1953. The hamlet regained new life in 1990, when the complete restoration of the entire estate was begun. Today, Livernano is once again a working farm, producing fine wines, excellent olive oil and honey, vegetables and fruits. On 38 acres new vineyards were planted with 9 different grape varieties. In the ancient olive groves, new trees were planted and we now tend close to 1000 trees, all of native Italian varieties. The remaining 420 acres consist of beautiful mature woodland that surrounds the hamlet on all sides. Three houses have been completely redesigned and furnished with local antiques to accommodate guests. Although situated in splendid isolation amidst forests, vines and olive groves, Livernano is close to many local towns, historic sites, fine restaurants, and famous wineries. The shopping and cultural centres of Florence and Siena are only a short drive away.

We have been coming to Italy from Canada for over 25 years and sometimes you accidently make the wrong decisions on accommodation and this would be one of those times. Its truly a beautiful place but is under staffed and not very well taken care of. The road in and out to the nearest restaurants is 20 min each way and you need a good driver as the road is very beat up. Breakfast is lovely and Bartolo, Nicolas and Roberto do a great job of keeping the guests happy. We tried to eat dinner there however if you are looking for real Italian I would absolutely not recommend. Just being a truthteller. The rooms are clean and the girls do a great job. I asked in town to some locals about Livernano and why it wasn't up to par with other Agriturismo's and we were told that the person running it isn't on site and wasn't from Italy. I sent an email before we came and asked about possible additional night and they said the rooms were available however when we arrived we explained that we didn't want the additional night (we had 2 expensive rooms booked) and they said no refund is possible and that was that. I can understand why some of the people coming to Livernano have been unhappy. We have really no reason to complain as we are on vacation however we saved for a year to do this family trip.

The best stay we had in Italy! The room was large, bed and pillows super comfortable, large bathroom with great shower and full set of toiletries. Plentiful breakfast buffet with eggs cooked to order. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by Chef Bartolo (limited menu, but everything was great). Only wish weather had been a bit nicer so we could've enjoyed the outdoor areas (pool, couches etc.). Only downside is the 8km drive on the windy, steep dirt road, where the storms created a lot of potholes and almost took out the bridge. We saw deer and a wild boar on the drive home from dinner onw night.

A relaxing part of Tuscany .Staff are a real asset being very friendly and efficient. Food was good. 20 mins of dirt road to get to in average condition. Not a problem but would be in wet conditions. Fairly close to interesting areas nearby.

Saint, Giorgia and chef Ricardo made our stay incredible! I cannot say enough great things about them and their kindness! I hope the owner appreciates and knows their value! It was quite a ride from Florence, but the beautiful scenery and quietness is exactly what we wanted in our stay. The room was large, AC cold, a beautiful view and clean. The food was wonderful and something new was served each night for dinner options. The breakfast buffet was always fresh and plentiful. Thank you again for our wonderful stay!

Found this hotel last minute. At first I was a little reluctant but so happy I choose this. The location is a bit isolated but that’s okay, it’s romantic and honestly getting into the car is not the end of the world. Second the place is super beautiful, gorgeous scenery and setting. Everything is super clean, and the staff is extremely sweet. Morning breakfast was relaxing, dinner was different every night and honestly delicious. The chef creates the menu, I didn’t find a point of going out for dinner when dinner there was great with a view and wine from their winery. For lunch we went out, there’s cute local places nearby 10 minutes away. Love it and we will totally be back!

Gudrun and staff helped make my husband's birthday one that he will forever remember. The ambiance, the food, the wine, the live guitar music.... and oh the beautiful setting.... on a romantic hillside surrounded by vineyards. The rooms were large and spacious and quiet which was just what we needed. The beds were heavenly! I started my days sipping espresso in the claw foot bathtub and transitioned to hikes through the vineyards and then sitting by the pool sipping vino as the afternoon passed by. Our stay @livernano could not have possibly been better!

This was the most dreamy vineyard experience of our lives. The authenticity was staggering and every detail perfect. Livernano is a must-see when visiting Tuscany, Chianti or Italy in general. Amazing staff and owner. We’ll be back many times.

I never usually comment even if a hotel is a disappointment. However in this instance, I would like to advise everyone who thinks of doing their wedding in this hotel. MY WEDDING HAS BEEN CANCELLED TWICE here. First time they didn’t feel comfortable hosting people arriving from Britain, Sweden etc (all vaccinated). Ok, we understood due to circumstances. Second time they were arranging menus and cakes last week and a few days later they cancelled again for no apparent reason - 2 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING!!!!!!! No compensation was received, no one even called us or left their phone number to discuss and apologise. One simple petty email received. Deposit refunded however we have lost money due to transfer rates. All in all 2 years wasted and money lost trusting this hotel. Just wanted to warn other couples - look elsewhere.

Dear Y9609ECsandral, We answer you also here, as we already did in past weeks. We completely understand your reasons behind this review, however we would like to point out that the first cancellation was due to COVID as your would not have been able to travel over to Italy. In June 2021, when you the rooming list was ok and confirmed for the event at the end of August 2021, your husband asked to „add some words to the impossibility section regarding delay the wedding due to COVID“ and the old management of course accomodated it. In the same email, he hoped and expected the european rules would had changed from June and August 2021 (quarantines for most of your relatives was an issue, as your husband specified). You were unfortunately misguided in the booking of the event (for example, 14 rooms were booked but the premises consists of only 11 rooms in total, same rates for different periods and years…) As per the most recent cancellation, and once again we apologize profusely for the disservice caused, the business had the obligation to let you know, that we cannot guarantee that we’d be able to host you for such a special event. As mentioned, Borgo Livernano has just recently changed management, and as soon as we were operative we have advised you of our current situation, giving you 11 weeks notice. And therefore we realized that our business would not have been able to carry out such special event. We sent you a detailed written explanation as to why we do not have the means to provide the best service for your needs. And apologises. Given the importance of such ceremony, we suggested you to turn to an alternative business that at the moment is able to provide services such as wedding planning, open bar etc. in order to avoid not being able to cater to the highest standards for your special day. After two years of struggles, at the moment we are focusing on our main services of stays, as we do not have the means to carry out bigger sized events and ceremonies for the time being. We are a location only service, as we do not provide additional services such as florists, wedding planners, entertainment, etc. but we can certainly work together with local business who do look after those services for all future couples will decide to spent their wedding day at Borgo Livernano. We genuinely are sorry for the disservice, however we would not have been able to give you the perfect day, hence why we of course refunded you in full. We send you our best wishes again, Borgo Livernano

A fabulous setting in the Chianti Hills. It has a very remote feel. It is very comfortable and relaxed. They have their own winery, well worth a tour and sell only their own wine, which is excellent. Food simple but good. Lovely time here.
