Iberostar Waves Club Cala Barca is celebrated for its cleanliness and friendly atmosphere, with guests especially appreciating the proximity to picturesque beaches and nature reserves. While the extensive amenities and lively entertainment are a hit with many, some families find the noise level disruptive, and soundproofing appears to be a common concern.
Although the staff earns accolades for their attentiveness, opinions on value for money are mixed, with a few travelers mentioning crowded spaces and unexpected fees.

Really enjoyable stay at Club Cala Barca. Travelled with a 3 and 7 year old as a family of 4. Prior to arrival we managed to book a central location for an additional 45 euros a night. We were allocated room 5681 beach view over looking the sea and garden areas. This location was perfect for both kids pools and restaurants and the room was ideal for the 4 of us. The beds were a little uncomfortable but for 7 nights they did the job.
On arrival we had a clerical error in which they took €100 euros from our account but this was swiftly resolved and the money was back in the account in 2 days.
All the restaurants are clean and serve all food types that accommodate both fussy children and adults wishing to taste the local cuisine. The Mexican restaurant and the Es Moli restaurant are much more relaxed than the main restaurant but a little less choice. To add to this the food trucks are really convenient providing food from pastas to panini’s.
All swimming pools are cleaned meticulously throughout the day and the kids pool especially was an highlight to both children.
The entertainment was spot on and accommodated all ages, the kids disco could do with moving to a later time. Personally after the pools close at 18:00
I was never and advocate of returning to a hotel but we will definitely returning in 2025.
P.S my 7 year old lived her best life!!!

We went as a family of 4 - loved it!! We knew it would be busy as summer school holidays, it didn't ever feel illy though. People are moving around all the time. We managed to get sunbeds, and often saw them free throughout the day. The site is huge, there are so many pools to choose from and the kids loved it. There is a smaller kids pool near the stairs to the beach, we often had it to ourselves.
The beach was ok, my kids weren't fans! There is a beautiful one about a 15 min walk away but we never made it! There is always something going on, the water carpet, an extra inflatable water slide, the kids loved it!
We only ate in the main restaurant as they had more choice for the kids, there was sometimes a queue to get in but only due to all the children being hungry! The staff clear tables so quickly, it is spotless.
My partner loves the self serve beer, the kids loved the self service ice cream! We thought he food was great, lovely salad bar and different themes each day. My kids had pancakes in chocolate sauce every breakfast!
The staff were lovely, the ones on main reception were fab. So helpful. My daughter needed antibiotics, and although we had to pay, we saw the on site doctor at 10am and had the antibiotic at by 12.30. They do a pick up service whih as far as I can tell is the same price as getting yourself a taxi to the nearest pharmacy. It meant we all stayed on site and together. They were super friendly too. It wasn't that cheap but costs were very clear.
The entertainment was fab - My daughter loved it. Really good atmosphere and never saw any trouble. We booked with tui but I upgraded our room to a central location through the hotel website. We ended up just being opposite the main buffet which was perfect! The room was fine, no issues.
We will definitely be returning. My children were 6 and 4 and he thing I loved the most was that it is truly a family hotel. There are no adult only pools or areas, and everyone (when we were there!) was friendly and from all over the world! I loved that if my children were tired and having meltdowns, others were too! No one looked disapprovingly. I was having a stressful time at lunch and accidentally smashed a glass in the dining room. Within seconds there was another guest helping move my children away, and staff clearing it away. Everyone was so kind.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

Perfect holiday for our large group aged between 6 and 68. The family rooms were a bit basic, but you were not in them a lot. Cleaning was an issue, if anyone was in the room when they arrived it did not get done so we missed out several times, also when we left checking that we had not left anything behind found a spirit bottle and plastic bottle from previous occupants. Other than that we have no complaints. As others have mentioned the staff are the hotels greatest asset, unfailingly friendly and courteous even under the most difficult circumstances. If you want a quiet holiday this is not the place for you, in high season it is full on sensory overload. No problem getting sunbeds at any time of day if you are not over fussy where they are, did enjoy watching the runners when the river pools open in the morning. The food was great generally, the asia and fish nights were especially good. The main restaurant was noisy and a bit chaotic at peak times but managed really well. The mexican was nice and i particularly enjoyed dinner overlooking the pool outside the med restaurant. Breakfast on the beach was a big hit with us, you can't beat watching the sea while eating your croissant. The snack options during the day are varied if you can't be bothered to go in for lunch. We liked the pizza at the top pool. Loads of activities during the day for those that want it plus a full program of evening entertainment. The more quirky and unusual extra entertainments were great like the silent disco, fire show, colour party. This is a great hotel for families run by people who know how to provide a good holiday experience for the vast majority of their customers and doing it with smiles on their faces.

Holiday for 5 adult 4 children, three rooms, food was very good, the place as whole was very clean, and the staff very friendly, being all inclusive the children could eat as much as they liked, and they did, I don’t know where they put it all, golf buggies to take you around the site if you require it, especially useful when arriving and departing with suitcases. The kids enjoyed the pools especially having a free go at scuba diving.and the entertainment was of a reasonable quality, although seating around the auditorium is limited, and I don’t agree with glass containers being used it this environment as we saw many glasses broken and this is very close to the swimming pool, bare feet beware.
Negative sides 1 a double bed and double bed settee is not good enough for a family suite, you cannot allow a 14 year old boy to share with his sister
2) horse riding, photos, and other extras had to be paid in cash they don’t accept cards, an ATM machine is available 5€ to use, exchange rate 1£=1€ exchange rate in uk 1£= 1.17€ so a 17% increase plus what ever your card provider charges. Therefore we did not buy the photos we would have liked or do some of the trips we would have liked to have done, not good enough in this day and age

This was a good hotel but not to our particular taste.
It is very family friendly which is great as we were two adults 2 children age 5 and 2.
Positives - staff were all lovely and very helpful, everyone from reception, to waiters, entertainment staff and life guards - all lovely, friendly and happy to help. - the slide in reception is great - such a good idea, why don’t more hotels do it. - grounds kept well, all pretty clean and rooms are cleaned to a good standard. - I saw so many comments on here about how far away rooms are - so much so I nearly paid an additional £500 to stay closer before we arrived but we decided to wait and see. For me the room we had was in the best location - it was 5 minute walk to the main stage and reception, far enough away that it was quiet of noise from the show and pools. - there were two small pools close to the room which is a lovely idea for convenience - especially if one child is napping in the room (with one parent) and the other parent and child don’t want to be too far. Or to stop off at while one parent goes and gets ready. - lots of pools to choose from, something for everyone. - the beach is lovely and didn’t get too busy.
Negatives for us - I didn’t realise all the restaurants were buffet, I thought the main one was and the others were a la carte. My misunderstanding. - the food was okay - it wasn’t bad and there was a decent amount of choice but I’m just generally not a buffet fan. The beach restaurant was the best for me. - the buffets got soooo busy! Far too busy! - the entertainment whilst good was all timed far too late - most of the parents were ready for bed never mind the children. - one thing I love for my children on holiday is a children’s disco. They have them at 5.30 in the pool, this is not a holiday disco and if they were going to do it as a pool party it should be earlier in the day.
We wouldn’t return as it was too busy, too many people crammed in and I don’t want to see another buffet. But for a lot of people this will be a fabulous hotel and holiday, and many we spoke to had a fabulous time. - it was impossible to get tables on an evening unless you waited from around 7.30pm.

Having just returned from a week holidaying at this hotel. This is not a hotel for couples and caters more for families. I would advise that if you are allocated any rooms between 4968 -4971. You will be sitting on the balcony looking at a brick wall. Which seems a bit strange as the rest of the block has railings to admire the view, and according to the hotel staff this was an upgrade (don't think so). The room was cleaned every day as we had paid for a safe which also requires a deposit for the key. If you don't pay for a safe, your room gets cleaned every 2nd day. Have no complaints about the staff. They were pleasant and just got on with their work. The hotel has 4 restaurants, which is good to have the option to dine in quieter areas, as the main restaurant is very noisy. The food is not of 4* quality and was luke warm at best. The food trucks do provide snacks in between main dining times. The hotel is vast and has plenty of pools, activities and entertainment but mostly focused for families. The hotel does require you to be fit with all the walking that is required. It is situated about 10mins car journey away from Cala O'Dor which cost roughly 10euros each way in a taxi, there is also public transport and bus stop at the front of the hotel. This wasn't a cheap holiday and to be honest didn't feel it was worth the money. This has been my first experience of the iberostar group and doubt I will be rushing to book any of their other hotels in the future.

Dear Shona, Thank you for sharing your assessment of our 4-star family-friendly Iberostar resort in Mallorca. We regret that your experience was less than satisfactory. Regarding rooms, we have a variety of room categories differing in location to suit the preferences of our guests and our reception team are happy to rectify any possible doubts. Furthermore, we are disappointed that our rich gastronomic selection did not meet your expectations on this occasion as we offer a diverse selection of high-quality national Mallorcan, Spanish and international dishes and culinary offerings prepared by our dedicated Executive chefs. We apologise if this was not the impression received and for any inconvenience caused, and please rest assured that we will share your observations with the corresponding departments for their revision. On a positive note, we are delighted you enjoyed our facilities and appreciate your kind words about our wonderful team. We were looking for a family hotel but with nice facilities for also the adults and this is what you get. It is a busy hotel and sometimes the main buffet restaurant seemed really busy but they have a lot of people to feed and it's just what it is. However they double up on both sides so people are well distributed and there is a lot of choice. You would find it really hard ot to find something you like. In the mornings they are making fresh smoothies and omelettes. The staff are very much on the ball in the restaurants with cleanliness, they are constantly clearing, tidying, sweeping. The restaurant staff get you seated as quickly as possible and will show you to your seat if its busy, otherwise you just pick for yourself The bars are great, no issue with getting what you want. The entertainment time are superb, how they perform in the hear in the evenings ,under hot lights and stay so happy is amazing. We didn't take advantage of the kids clubs and teenage activities but I have never known a place to offer so many activities and to split the age groups. The extra entertainment they put on with people from outside of the hotel is great, especially the rock band. It is a good place if you have teenagers and the hotel is big but on its own so they can go off with friends and have that independence but they are still on the hotel site. We woke up early to go home and at 5am there are staff ensuring the sunbeds are clean, washed down and that there are no stray glasses etc How they keep the place clean and tidy at the end of the evening is beyond me when people have been down to the beach and all over the grounds with drinks Every single member of that hotel with the are cleaning bar staff, chefs, entertainment, or in the shops are lovely. They all say hello and are so friendly. Items in the shops were a good price given that they have the monopoly nothing was hiked up in price. It wasn't a factor when booking but they do a lot for the sustainability of the environment, they included this in their entertainment which was a lovely evening and in the information about the restaurants. The rooms are maybe not 4star but they are more than adequate and are cleaned well something which must be a difficult job in that heat and that amount of rooms. Our room was right in the centre near the main restaurant, and the entertainment stage was a great location for us. What you ate paying for is really the entertainment the activities they offer and the large amount of pools and restaurants. Which in reality is what you are there for. We were very impressed, we took a 5yr old and a 15yr old and they both had a great time. What really stuck with me was the staff and how incredibly hard they work every minute of the day and that is most commendable. I would recommend this hotel to people with children.

Great resort for families, amazing entertainment for the kids , my three grandchildren were busy and entertained every day to the full! Staff work hard to keep everything spotless and customers happy , restaurants were busy as it was school holidays but good was fresh and plentiful, something for everyone, particularly loved the beach restaurant, amazing setting and wonderful food! Kids played on the beach once they had finished and we had a relaxing wine! Easy to keep and eye on them and very safe . Rooms were spacious with comfy beds and Were also kept beautifully by the staff . We had a family room in a central location which is worth asking for if you have young children who aren’t happy to walk far in the heat . All in all I would definitely return here with my family , loved it!!!

Stayed here for 5 nights from 19/8 - 24/8. 2 adults and 1 child aged 14. We were checked in by the lovely Sylvia who made sure we knew where everything was and if we had any problems, we could contact her. We then were taken in a golf type buggy by a lovely Slovakian guy (Pieta?) to our room. We were given room 5675. This room and those next to it were probably the best in the whole resort. Central/ sea view and quiet! Great air con, lots of space and very comfy beds and pillows.
Our son is 14 and he likes to be kept busy. We hardly saw him for the full five days! He made friends with some kids his age and they did loads of activities together- darts, water polo, volleyball, football, silent disco, the excursion snorkelling to Cala Mondrago etc etc etc. This hotel is wonderful for kids if they are active and want to make friends.
The nice thing about this hotel is that there are people here from all nationalities- not just Brits. We chattered to people from all over Europe - most of them have been coming to this hotel for a few years!
You can’t reserve your sun lounger until 8:30pm which is great! No getting up at the crack of dawn to put a towel down.
The pools are all really nice and very well maintained with lots and lots of life guards who are actually working not on their phones like other hotels we have been to in the past.
The food choices here are really great. My wife is vegetarian and there was a lot of veggie options. The only things that were missing were a veggie chilli and a veggie paella. The salads etc were wonderful and this hotel provides the best cakes/ deserts out of all the All inclusive hotels we have ever stayed at!
We ate at all the restaurants- all were good and all were very well managed by hard working staff who greeted you with a smile and saw you to your table.
The area is quiet and if you walk through the Mondragó National Park, you get to Cala Mondrago which is absolutely stunning. We hired a car and we went to Cala D’Or, the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy & Museum and we drove to a couple of small beaches nearby. There is a bus from the hotel to Cala D’Or so a car isn’t essential but it does make the trip from the airport a lot quicker.
Special thanks to Sylvia, Pep in reception- so helpful and friendly. Paola who made us feel very welcome. The cleaning staff in our block - our room was spotless, Alex in the sports team for the Eagles and all the fabulous staff in the restaurants.
One thing I would like to suggest for a future improvement is to have a section of a pool just for adults as we were here in peak summer season and there are LOTS of kids. I mean LOTS. They are all having a great time, but I would have liked a swim without getting attacked by an inflatable shark or crocodile 🤣. That one adjustment would make this place utterly fabulous- please consider it!!
So many positives about this hotel- come and see for yourself: it’s lovely xx

Visited for 4 nights from 18th September with my daughter and 3 year old grandaughter
Positives The food is excellent and the dining room was ran efficiently during our stay The pools and facilities are great The entertainment was enjoyed particularly the rock night as the group were amazing. The drinks nice snd service at the bar was also very good. Negatives No kettle or welcome tea coffee in room, did get a kettle when asked however no cups so bought paper ones from shop Room position with a 3 year old top floor (3) and no lifts so had to haul the buggy up and down daily. We did ask to change room but we're told would have to pay ÂŁ40.a night. This seems a regular thing with this hotel and felt like a good way to make extra money by allocating unsuitable rooms and charging to get something more suitable. I'm sure management will deny this but just read other reviews. The beach restaurant was nice for an uncooked breakfast but the evening meal was all cold despite us been the first sitting. My daughter had undercooked chicken which luckily was spotted and not eaten. Beware pool area extremely slippy take pool shoes for little ones. It's such a shame the management do not improve ghe things that are a regular occurrence in the reviews. Put kettles in rooms ? The resort is huge so it would be nice to be able to have a coffee in your room on a morning. There are Microwaves in rooms this is confusing. Stop charging if someone's room is not convenient for their circumstances and be helpful to guests to make their stay more enjoyable and more relaxing. Rated as a family hotel but no lifts? I wouldn't reccomend to those with children under 5 due to location of rooms, no lifts and staff unwilling to try to help without trying to get more cash out of you.
