We were a group of 11 people (6 adults, 5 children aged 2 - 8) who stayed in a pool villa during Christmas. The house was perfect for us, we were worried it might be a bit small as we only had 3 bedrooms and would have preferred to have a separate bedromm for the children, but as the bedroom were really big, it was not a problem. The children slept on mattresses on the floor and in a crib. We also had a separate poolhouse with bedroom and bathroom where the grandparents slept. We had a nice pool, and there was a small garden where the children could play, a sundeck next to the pool and two balconys. The pool boy was there every day.

There were also two other pools that we could use, a playground, tennis court and minigolf (we never tried the minigolf as the clubs were regular gulfclubs, too big for the children to handle). There was a restaurant and entertainment several evenings. We stayed close to the main building but were never annoyed by the music or the restaurant.

We had a 5-minute walk to a beautiful beach, there were hardly any waves, The water was shallow and when there was a low tide the children could hunt for crabs and crawfish. The restaurant at the beach became our favourite, the price was great (a lot cheaper than the big tourist islands like Samet, Chang and Samui), and it was possible to sit at the tables at the restaurant, or have the food served at the beach, where we sat in sunchairs. There was also a small coffee shop next to the reataurant, where I could buy my latte for 35 baths :) In the evening, the only light came from the few beach restaurants and a few beach bars a 10 minutes walk away. There were a few activities on the beach (we never tried) and a few people walking the beach offering massage, pedicure and manicure and braids for the children. Other people were selling fruit, cotton candy, popcorn etc. They were never intrusive. There were also a lot of shops on wheels (motorbikes) where we could buy food, drinks, icecream, fruit, souvenirs, beach toys etc.

The staff was helpful, though they had a few problems understanding what we said. There was a women in the reseption that understood English, most of the other staff (including cleaners, security and people in the bar) did not understand anything. The reception booked taxis for us several times, the price was ok. They had maps and information about the area (be aware that there is not much to do in the nearby area). We had problems with the washing mashine and the dishwasher, they tried to fix them but we were not able to use these during our stay. We also had problems getting the cleaning ladies to understand that we needed towels for 11 people (and more than 1 towel per guest would be ok, especially since we were not able to wash them).

On the beach road it is possible to take the local "bus" (pick-up with benches) or get a taxi to nearby Rayong (a quite big city with big shoppingmalls) or Ban Phe (with an aquarium, a market, small shops and a lot of reataurants). From Ban Phe you can take a boat to the beautiful island of Koh Samet. I saw a lot of guests had rented a motorbike with a small sidecar with room for 3-4 people. We had the staff at the restaurant drive us to Ban Phe a few times in one of these, and soon realised it would have been cheaper to rent one ourselves.

All in all we had a great stay, and we would love to go back. We have seen a lot of Thailand, and though this is not the most exiting place, it is excellent for a family like ours, who was looking for a quiet place to spend time together. We stayed for 3 weeks, and went to Bangkok during New Year, and to Koh Samet for a few days. It was wonderful to go back "home" and relax, sit by the pool while the children played or go to the beach and sit down without having to fight a crowd. It might sound like a cliché, but my husband and I talked about how the area reminded us of Koh Samet the first time we went there in 2001 (the quiet beach, the absence of chain stores like 7-11, few people). :)

The resort is very well situated within walking distance to a clean and friendly beach. It offers a variety of well-designed condominiums with kitchen and all modern amenities.

The pool and clubhouse as well as the wellness center are all very nicely laid out with a friendly staff offering Thai hospitality at its best.

To area offers local fish restaurants that are worth a try. In our opinion both clean and cost efficient.

You will need to rent a car or a motorbike alternatively book a taxi or tuk-tuk from the reception if you wish to visit the nearby city or Rayong, one of the six golf courses nearby or other attractions.

Absolutely a place worse visiting again

It is still a building site, this time there are pile drivers less than 100 feet from the apartments operating 8.30am until 5.00pm shaking the building like an earthquake. Reception is a real estate sales office operating office hours so if anything goes wrong good luck, our hot water refused to be even warm, too bad they had gone home for the night.

The resort cherges for every thing even the tea and coffee in the rooms, which you make yourself. hire a motor bike and if not thiers, there is a parking fee, as there is for pool towels and just about everything else.

Management do not treat complaints seriously

There are lots of other resorts in Rayong Beach please use one of those

Management do ot treaat complaints seriously

This place is primarily a property sales and development site and the resort is secondary to this. The developer offers potential buyers a guaranteed rental income, to recoup this cost he rents out the sold properties to tourists – hence the resort. Consequently, the place suffers from concrete mixers, builder’s trucks and worker transport buses coming in and out of the place and, if you are really unfortunate, pile-drives can also be thumping away throughout your stay.

The advertising gives the impression that you will be near the beach, but it is actually so far away they have to offer a golf cart service to take you there and back. Unfortunately there is only one golf cart, so if you find yourself down on the beach in urgent need of a bathroom, we hope this only golf cart is ready and waiting - there are no facilities on the beach and it’s a very long walk back to your room. The place itself is quite pretty, but the beach is unbearable when the tides start washing up huge amounts of rubbish (a regular occurrence). The rental charges are high when compared to the many other places available on Mae Rampeung Beach as are the charges for things like massages and body treatments. Always compare the prices here with those you would pay outside the resort before booking.

We certainly would not recommend a stay here. Actually we think the best plan would be to just book a hotel for the first night and then check out the options/prices once you are here. Even in the high season there is always lots of availability and you will see with your own eyes what is being offered before you spend your hard earned cash.

Stayed in a three bedroom Tropical Pool Villa with private pool which was booked via Agoda. Villas have the same owner as condos rented by The Royal Tropical Beach. Service at restaurant was worst I ever have come across in Thailand. You had to wait apprx two hours to get meals for 4 adults and 2 children. There was a cook (not very efficient one) who was in charge of all meals ordered and a waiter who barely spoke any english. Ordering meals was a nightmare and you never got all meals you ordered. On our last night the cook even forgot steamed rice of one of the meals ordered and when asked for, we were told that they were out of rice...

The villa itself was beautiful and spacious and so was the private pool even though the water wasn't the cleanest . The worst thing in my opinion was that when you took a shower, the water smelled like it was coming out of a sewer and you felt dirtier after showering because of that. There was no soap, toilet paper and trash can in the toilet. Cleaning ladies spent a lot of time while cleaning the villa, even to the extent to being annoying.

Taxis were only available when ordered via office/reception so moving about wasn't so easy as office closed at 6 pm. No taxis or tuktuks driving by.

Overall this place was peaceful as there are only few villas and very few guests staying in the condos and villas. Maybe this place will be nicer after few years and if the owners will provide the service that is required, but at the moment it simply doesn't work for me.

When we arrived at the hotel at 12:00 pm, the room was not ready to move in yet. Can't complain, official check-in time was 2 pm. When we came back, staff took us to our room, but didn't even think about helping to carry our luggage!
The room appeared not yet fully made up, with toilet paper and soap missing. It was delivered promptly when we asked. The bathroom was a big disappointment. Firstly there was no bathtub, which we would have expected in this price category. Also, there was no sanitary shower for the toilet, which I really came to like in this country and is found nearly everywhere else. The worst was the shower: the faucet is of poor quality and cannot regulate the water temperature properly, which is constantly changing. If you enjoy a peaceful shower, this hotel is not for you...
The bedding was also a disappointment, with only a queen-size double bed and hard mattress. The walls are not sound insulated, you can observe a normal conversation in the adjacent rooms. Unfortunately we had a large family with noisy children next door...
The next disappointment was our visit to the pool: when we asked for pool towels we were informed they are 50 Baht each - non-refundable! It's a pity amount but it's ridiculous to charge the guests for towels. As for the food, we just tried some snacks and cocktails, which were not impressive. We did not try the breakfast buffet available.
A highlight were the recreational facilities, which include table tennis, tennis and outdoor chess, amongst others.

I stayed at this resort for 2 nights with my family, but we wished we stayed more.

The stayed at 3 bedroom pool Villa and we enjoyed it so much.

The resort is clean and very well maintained.

Breakfast was also nice as if I was at my own home.

The beach is a walking distance to the beach.

The staff were very friendly...

You can rent a motor bike at the resort it self...

Honestly, if you wish to relax I recommend staying at this place at least for 3 days before re initiate the hectic trip.

Firstly, when you come after hours make sure you stop at the gate to pick up your keys. Actually, there are two "resorts", one up the road also named The Oriental. Secondly, they crashed us with their golf cart getting to our room. This is not a hotel or resort. This is a condo complex. The service does not exist after 5:30 pm so you're pretty much on your own. This is a perfect set up for locals with cars, and their families, not people looking for a hotel close to the beach. The breakfast is bad, and the front desk was poorly run. We requested a private taxi that took over 45 minutes, and ended up being a truck with us sitting in the back. Worse they over charged us 400 baht to get to the pier. We had to pay the so called hotel for the private driver...joke. The room is a nice size, but you pay for everything. I would strongly urge people to book another spot unless you need nothing and have a car. Also, the beach waaaay in front of the "hotel" is nice. Wouldn't give me a receipt when I paid cash, no wife available. Nothing convenient about this condo complex disguised as a report/hotel.
