I can echo other reviews in that the pool was out of action (although no voucher appeared) and that the hotel leans towards serving groups. I can also agree that it needs some work, which does seem to be underway as I type. Staff, overworked and understaffed, were excellent and very helpful and friendly, especially in the restaurant (although the annoying rules about what you can eat where in the hotel seemed maddeningly arbitrary) and sleep quality was top notch. All in all a hotel that benefits from great staff who stop it from being average.

Had been meaning to book here for sometime and eventually got round to it. We arrived early and me by a friendly reception staff that took our bags and put them out of the way while we drove into town for a look around. The room was surprisingly large with a little annexe that had a sofa, table and second TV. bed was big and comfortable, everything clean and tidy. We booked a table in the restaurant and I have to say, the soup (leek and potato) was one of the best, served with a warm crusty roll a great way to start the meal (I even went as far as having some in the room on the next day, it was that good). Main course of pie and mash was OK, for my personal taste more butter and salt in the mash, and the vegetables cooked just a little more, and the green beans destringed. Breakfast was the highlight, served buffet style with everything you could want. Good produce well cooked, and a chef not frightened to get some colour on a sausage (I did comment on that and complimented her) that, and fresh fried bread in abundance (I did not have to ask for it like I normally do) and home made hash browns was the best start to the day. Checkout was pretty much seamless, and there was a slight query with the bill (Connie deserves a mention for the way she dealt with it) which was quickly resolved. Am looking forward to going back as it was so peaceful and quiet.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Mercure Tunbridge Wells. For a mid range hotel we were very pleasantly surprised at the service and quality of the meals during our stay, the staff were all very friendly despite it being very busy on the Saturday evening. Restaurant staff were all very helpful and took the time to have a little chat both evenings. Evening meals were very nice, and the breakfasts and choice of food available were far superior to many we have recently had at much more expensive hotels.....well done!!!

Comfortable room with nice bed linen but a humming noise in the middle of the night, which sounded like an electric motor and went on for about an hour, interrupted my sleep. Good tea/coffee facilties in the room and nice biscuits. Very nice breakfast room and a very good breakfast

Tend to agree with them favouring groups, we had a table booking at 8 and a coach load arrived (we were told they were delayed) but they took priority of over us which was annoying, we were told that they had booked ages ago, but so had we! Food was average in the restaurant,due to the coach of load of guests before us they was a few dishes that they had ran out of, they brought completely the wrong dish out for me. The waiter did remove 2 drinks off the bill as an apology, however had I been an allergy sufferer no one came to check or inform me that what I originally ordered they hadn’t got! Due to the pool being closed we were given a drink voucher each to compensate. Room was dated but clean, good variety of food at breakfast.

If you are not in a group don't think you will get breakfast when you want it Checked in Trying to get breakfast at 9am.Sorry groups come first.Suggested 10am which is not suitable.Grudgingly put us down for 8.30 am but told will be busy.This is an experience with the Spa railway.It is an anniversary present.Already spoilt by a poor attitude..Dont expect this hotel to be in Tunbridge Wells.Nearer Pembury.They may call it a Mercure hotel but it appears to be a franchise operation.Room is fine but the WiFi is being used.by ninety percent of the guests so a poor signal.4g signal poor.

My wife and I stayed at the Mercure this weekend on a Virgin Gift Experience. We were pleasantly surprised after reading all the negative reviews. Yes some areas of the hotel needs a refresh but our room was lovely and clean with everything you need including free water in your room. All the staff were excellent from check in to the restaurant and bar. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious and had drinks in the lovely bar. The breakfast choice was fresh and with lots of choice. We would stay again when near Tunbridge Wells.

I just wanted to commend Tim in the restaurant, he is an absolute credit to the hotel, his service was outstanding. Welcoming, personal and not in an over the top way. It’s not often that I stay in a hotel chain and find a staff member as caring and professional as Tim. So a big thank you, lovely stay and even 3 months later, although I can’t remember the room or much else about my stay (I’m a regular in hotels due to being field based, so they merge into one!) Tim’s fantastic attitude has stuck with me!

We stayed one night for a workshop in a twin room. We enjoyed the very comfy beds and the bathroom was a good size with an ok shower. However, there was no hairdryer in the room and we'd asked for one to be left for us by the porter but that didn't materialise. When we called and called in the morning, nobody answered the reception phone, so we had to go without. The food was nice but the restaurant lacked atmosphere in the evening. Breakfast was much more suited to that space we thought. The receptionist upon our arrival on Friday afternoon was lovely - so welcoming. On Saturday, not so much, the receptionist seemed very rushed and harassed.
