We have stayed back in 2016 and we decided to return as we needed to see my family. The rooms are very well thought out and the beds and bedding are wonderful. The best thing though was the staff, especially Claire on reception. Every morning I would sing out a few notes of Shania Twain and Claire would say how disappointed she would have been if I hadn't. This lovely lass is going to see her idol in Manchester for her Birthday and she deserves recognition for her, over and above attitude. I must also mention (little) Chris and Mathew on the bar, not forgetting the very efficient and friendly Housekeeping Staff. By the way, the location is perfect to access all the great things the area has to offer. If you stay, pay a visit to the Colliery Tavern and say 'Alreet pet' to Ethel the Landlady of 34 years. Hotel's Favourite
Obviously, the location is the biggest attraction as the hotel is so close to the Stadium of Light. Our room was very spacious with all the necessary amenities. Secure parking was included as was a tremendous breakfast. The staff were polite and very good at their jobs - reception / bar / cleaners / breakfast / security. An excellent stay and we hope not to leave it so long to revisit.

We stayed her for a five night break Monday 27th of March to Saturday 1st of April. We would like to mention Callum, who is amazing and has the customer at the heart of everything he does. Claire on reception, and Natalie for her amazing customer service. We arrived a little early and being diamond members already had the App, check in is really easy via the app and we didn’t need to visit reception. However, having previously stayed it was lovely to be checked in personally by Callum and the outstanding service he provides to guests. Nothing was to much trouble and he went beyond his duty to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. The suite we were in was just amazing, beautifully presented, immaculately clean, and very comfortable. Being diamond members we get breakfast included, breakfast is just amazing an all you can eat buffet style, complete with fresh waffles. Martin the morning chef does the most amazing, perfectly cooked poached eggs which are available to order. This was our third visit and we enjoyed this one just as much as the others, so much so we did five nights this time where previously we have done four. There is happy hour in the bar five till seven, we took advantage of this on three of our five nights. The bar was spotlessly clean and comfortable and we were made to feel very welcome. Once again the level of service , cleanliness and comfort of this hotel was excellent, the superb Management of this Hotel shows on every level and therefore it is 100% value for money. Amazing service in the restaurant and bar tonight from the staff here at the Hilton garden Inn Sunderland. All staff have been so accommodating and friendly. Nothing is too much of a big ask for them! They have made our stay so lovely. Big shout out to Jonny and Evie who served us our lovely meal tonight and drinks. And carol through the day who served us our lunch and accommodated a special request.

Credit where credit is due, I stay and eat in different hotels all week with work and have done for the past 7 years so I’ve tried a lot of dishes and steak. The steak I’ve just had was up there with one of the best I’ve eaten. You can tell the chef knows and loves his steak. I’ve had to ring reception to pass a message on to him as it was that good! I’ve never done that in 7 years. Found out he is called John, please keep a hold of him. The fella knows how to cook. Absolutely delightful, take a bow John. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

+ Perfect location for Stadium of light access. Easy parking. Decent breakfast. Ok gym. - Really dated rooms. We could not close bathroom door (water damage). Room smelled terrible. A/c not functioning so alarm went off kn the middle of night. Maybe just unlucky with room. But then if they still put people in those - that tells you something.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. I am extremely disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your stay. Your experience is far from the norm as you will note from the overwhelming level of positive reviews on this forum. Sadly the issues raised were not brought to our attention during your stay and we were not accorded an opportunity to put things right for you. Our hotel is only 7 years old and many guests comment on how the hotel feels very modern and stylish, so I can only assume your reference to the rooms as "dated" is down to personal design and décor preference. With regards to the Air-Conditioning, if the alarm sounds then the system is working correctly. It generally sounds when guests use items such as aerosols, vaping devices or would smoke in the bedrooms. This is in place to act as a deterrent in line with our clean air policy. We were able to identify your reservation from a review you left on another forum and my Guest Relations Manager has made attempts to reach you via both email and telephone. We went for Mothering Sunday lunch the food and service was superb, from the moment we arrived to when we left the team were very engaging. We had the carvery which in our opinion is the best in Sunderland, My mother in law said her sticky toffee pudding was the best she has ever had. Thanks again to the Team we will be back

Lovely stay as always. Just have to mention Jonny (front office) & chef Stephen. We couldn't eat a full dinner but needed a pre theatre meal... Jonny & Stephen to the rescue, gave us a few choices and voila, our needs were met. The bread was delicious.. woykd be great if I could pick up a loaf each time I stay... Thank you guys... Great treat for my sister and happy hour didn't go amiss either!
