Located on the Scottish / English border, Gretna Green is world famous for its runaway marriages and in the mid nineteenth century there was much rivalry between the various marriage house proprietors ... The Gretna Chase Hotel was built by John Murray, an extremely successful businessman in the marriage trade, and tenant of Allison's toll-bar. Completed in 1856, Murray built the hotel opposite the toll-bar. It proved very popular with clients, being the first in the area to offer stabling for horses. Today, The Gretna Chase Hotel offers modern amenities, but retains much of its original character. All bedrooms have pleasant views of the surrounding countryside, and public rooms are furnished in a style in-keeping with the age of the hotel. Fully licensed, privately owned and completely supervised by the owners, this small but extremely comfortable hotel offers the discerning guest a carefree informality away from city pressures. We would be delighted to show you around the hotel by appointment , to highlight all the facilities we have to offer and discuss your personal requirements.

This was our fourth stay at the chase ,though not stayed for some time.
It's ideal for us as both myself and my wife have elder parent caring duties these days ,the chase is very close and easy to get to for a quiet night away.
Now as always the honesty part until 5 months ago I worked in a chain hotel as a permanent weekend night auditor for one of the world's largest hotel companies in a city centre location, leaving with almost 19 years service ,my wife still works for that same company in the same hotel with almost 18 years service as receptionist/ F and b.
We booked via their own website as it's cheaper than the usual booking sites for one night in a standard room with breakfast.

On arrival check in was very quick and friendly they seem to have been particularly quiet that night as we got a free of charge room upgrade.

The room was great ,very well equipped sofa and 2 chairs large bed ,large smart TV with apps for netflix etc ,great bathroom with bath with separate shower ,plenty hot water great water pressure and quality toiletries provided.

The room was very cozy ,some may possibly find it warm ,we didn't but there was a fan provided.

Corridors very quiet no internal noise heard at all ,though experience dictates I comment I have no doubt that would be different when they have weddings in the hotel.

We ate in the bar ,it was very quiet ,one other guest present when we entered ,one other arrived before we left.
Great menu choices , special board, very quick , friendly and attentive service from the lovely lass on duty.
We shared a starter ,my lovely wife had a curry from the specials board I had the steak off the main menu .
Food was served quickly ,piping hot and faultless.

My wife said her curry was amongst the beds she'd ever had my steak wouldn't have been out of place on a miller and carter plate.

With two rounds of drinks and a generous tip ,I was more than happy with the bill.

Breakfast as with the bar meal was very quiet ,fantastic attentive service small but adequate selection of cereals and yoghurt etc tea or coffee is brought to your table toast comes to the table as well.
Selection of hot items fresh tasty and quality items.

I have no doubt at all we will return and very much look forward to doing so.

Due to covid causing havoc with our wedding plans we decided last minute to book a hotel closer to the blacksmiths to take off alot of stress and worry.

From the moment I booked and rang to add on a late stay and an extra room nothing was too much trouble.
We arrived and the room was set up for us- very clean and had everything we need. Great shower after our wet journey up from the lakes.

We are at the hotel and they really bent over backwards to cater for my allergies and intolerances what make eating out impossible. Food was really lovely, I was even able to have breakfast at a hotel something I've not had in years! Thank you for that.

The hotel allowed me to still have my photographer and hairdresser in my room the morning of my wedding.

Really can't thank you guys at the gretna chase for allowing me to have a stress free wedding morning and really bending over backwards for us all.

Highly recommend this hotel for any family, couple or wedding party.

Staff were very helpful practicing strict distancing and wore masks. Felt very safe.

I’ve started staying here after trying out all other hotels in Gretna as I’m down once a month for a week.

The rooms I’ve had have been really comfortable, of a good size and very clean.

The owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming and make your stay feel like you want to come back.

The food so far has been excellent with really good variety and although some other guest complained about his food not having enough chicken in it, my dinners have been awesome. I highly recommend the Biscoff waffle and ice cream.

Looking forward to my stay again in a few weeks.

It looks like a great venue for weddings too and the grounds are well kept for photos and family gatherings

The breakfast was undercooked the toast we had to send back was mouldy which knocked me sick. our wedding breakfast the next day service terrible food aweful cold soup for starters . Roast beef lovely had it come same time as gravy veg i wont even go there . Desert stale cake had to ask staff for the drinks to do toast which she had forgot but did say sorry but she forgot . I think all staff need training and chef needs to be fired also told the barstaff needed to finnish cleanimg before she would serve at the bar

Sadly we Had a very disappointing visit to The Gretna Chase Hotel yesterday for our Sunday lunch.
We had been shopping and really fancied a lunch we saw the board on the roadside advertising traditional lunches and cream teas.
We were greeted and told to take a seat in the bar there were 2 other couples in seated one of which were already eating. We decided to go for 2 courses starter and main so ordered promptly, 45 mins later our starter arrived which was ok then our dinner arrived about another 45 mins later. Shocked is an understatement at the portion that arrived. I have never seen a dinner so small 2 slices of meat, 3 carrot batons, 1 parsnip baton, 1 tender-stem broccoli stalk, 3 green beans and 3 tiny roast potatoes. I asked for mint sauce to be told ill see if we have any left. The young girl brought it and said I've scraped what i could out of the jar.
When it was time to pay i told the lady i was very disappointed at the size of the dinner we had received and the fact not even any mashed potatoes on the plate she said we used to do them but i dint know why we stopped. I said we wouldn't come back or recommend them to anyone to which she said that's ok then she said ill knock some your drinks off because of your wait which i had not mentioned. I asked why did we wait so long and she had no idea why.
A couple arrived asking for a coffee and a scone as advertised on the roadside to be told well the chief says 15 mins for scones ive got no idea why so they left.
Its so sad that nobody seemed bothered about anything at all and not interested in being helpful or apologetic
Very poor service indeed Definately would not recommend at all

Welcoming, clean, had everything we needed and some we didn't. Staff were helpful, in particular Amy, who always seemed to be around to help.
My daughters wedding reception was held here the food and service was out of this world. As was the meals we had before and after.
If you are someone who likes style, opulence and good food and value for money, you would not go far wrong by staying here.

I have stayed in this hotel countless times over the last couple of years with work and will gladly admit it is probably the best overall hotel in the area. It's reasonably priced, food is great and not over priced, staff are friendly and it just has a great feel to the place. On another note you don't have the motorway pounding past the window like some of the other hotels in the area.

The hotel is ideal for any user: business, romantic or that runaway wedding.

Would definitely recommend to anyone

We arrived late due to traffic hold ups, just wanted a bath, food and bed but the room was freezing, the bath was rusty! If it hadn’t have been dark and late we would have asked for another room, or checked out! The advert on the website for a deluxe room showed a lovely wooden tray with cups and saucers, in reality we had a plastic tray with mugs and sachets of Nescafé instant coffee! Breakfast was awful, there was a wedding party on, so would obviously be busy with that and hotel residents, but they seemed to run out of hot breakfast items and everyone sat waiting ages for more to come out ! We were going to complain when we checked out but as there was no sign of anyone on exception we just put our key in the box and left, and won’t be back! There was a notice in the room asking people to make sure they turned off all electrical appliances/lights when they weren’t in the room because of the high cost of electricity, fair enough, but the room should’ve been warm and welcoming on arrival! It hadn’t warmed up by the time we went to bed, that’s cost cutting to the extreme!

We have stayed at at this hotel on a number of occasions over the last year and again this February. It is a perfect stop, modern facilities , clean and pleasant rooms ( Deluxe) ,reasonable price ,very quiet, with perfect location for the M6.
The first time we stopped last year, it was curry night ! the curries were amazing , vegetarian and meat and so now we now make it a regular stop on our travels to Scotland. We stopped again on the 28th February and as before we asked for a vegetarian curry when we booked the rooms and as before it was provided in addition to the meat curry on the menu.
The chef is excellent and clearly makes everything from scratch and his curries etc. are way above the standard of many Indian restaurants.
The bar & restaurant has always been great from all the dining staff and on this occasion we had excellent service from the lovely, welcoming Preet who oversees the bar and restaurant.
Breakfast is great, excellent service again, with cereals & pastries in addition to a full English/Scottish cooked breakfast
The reception staff are also very helpful and provide excellent customer service.
All staff seem to be committed to a very high standard of customer service and make you feel welcome even though its an overnight stop for us.
This is a perfect stop for us, really great and we highly recommend it to others.

This was our first stay at this lovely hotel and it definitely will not be our last.
We were on a DBB deal £70 (Sunday deal) which included £15 per person toward our evening meal and to be perfectly honest our expectations were not very high 😬 ( Sorry )
HOWEVER from the moment we stepped into the Gretna Chase Hotel the professional and warm welcome from all the staff was without question exceptional.
The hotel itself was spotless in all areas, including the well kept gardens and patio area with seating.
The Bar was comfortable and drink prices were reasonable for a hotel £5.25 per pint 🍺 bar service was absolutely spot on with the girls coming round and asking everyone if they were ok and getting drinks when requested always with a smile 😊
Our room was very comfortable with all the usual TV kettle tea coffee and a good sized sitting area.
The bathroom had bath and separate shower, and plenty of hot water.
Food was very nice well cooked and presented.
Breakfast was also very good with proper coffee 👍 and once again first class service.
SO ?
Would we stay again ? 100% yes
Was it excellent value for money ? 100% yes you even get free parking 🅿️ which sadly is no longer the norm for many hotel.
Are we travel experts ? 100% NO but we have definitely been on our fare share of weekend breaks with My hotel breaks Groupon Travel Zoo and Wowcher to know that this has to be one of the best deals we have ever been on, plus at no point during our stay we’re we made to feel or treated any differently because we were on a Sunday night saver deal.
This hotel is lovely inside and out and we can’t wait to stay again.
A big thank you to all the staff at the Gretna Chase Hotel and we look forward to seeing you all very soon.
