Detailed Reviews
This was booked for our last one night stay on our way home south after touring Scotland. The exterior and interior are well kept and the hotel is conveniently situated for a visit to the Gretna Green Centre. We were received in a warm and friendly manner and our room was fresh and simply decorated with a view of hills in the distance. On this occasion parking was easy and we had a peaceful night's sleep, although It may well be busier and noisier on big event nights that the hotel is available for.
The dinner menu choice was good, with reasonable options for vegetarians and fish eaters. Both dinner and breakfast were nicely cooked and served by a polite and efficient young waitress.
While the location isn't scenic, this is a good option for a short stay if you want/need to be in the area.

This is a family run hotel with a warm welcome. The chalet (4) in which we stayed was basic but very clean and offered us all we needed. We had a large shower and whilst the water pressure was not the strongest it was ok. A star lost as the sink tap was loose on its mounting and the protective sheathing on the cable on the hairdryer had come away from its grip showing the wires it was supposed to protect. The large bed was very comfy. Best of all however was the dinner we had I the evening which was great value. A 10oz sirloin steak with all trimmings for a little over ÂŁ20 and offerings on the menu for reasonably priced smaller portions which suited my wife. Wonderful deserts for no more than ÂŁ4.75. The two staff looking after the dining room, adjoining lounge and reception area worked hard and cheerfully but the problem of staffing the hospitality industry was obvious. Well done girls and thank you.

My mum got married at Gretna and we all booked this hotel to stay and for the reception meal. Initially when we saw the 55 price tag we were unsure but we needn’t of been, what a find!! The staff were amazing and extremely helpful, they couldn’t do enough for us. The Covid protocols were the best we have seen and adhered to brilliantly.
Our room was nice and clean with tea/coffee and the bed was very comfy.
My fiancé has coeliacs disease and we are always very sceptical when hotels offer gluten free food as she regularly gets glutened due to poor understanding and cross contamination. They have their own gluten free menu offering lots of options, the food was plentiful and delicious and the best bit... she didn’t get any reaction, they have separate friers so she could have the chips AND they served gluten free lager!. At breakfast the waitresses double checked to see what she could have and it was basically everything apart from the haggis and sausage, they also brought gluten free toast.
Do not be put off by the price.. yes the rooms may need a little updating but it is outstanding value for money and I will recommend this hotel to friends. We are going to book again for my mums anniversary... thankyou to the staff of Solway lodge and look forward to seeing you next year! X

Arrived here in the evening, tired after a very long day’s travelling and looking forward to comfortable accommodation of a standard shown in the photos on Booking.com. On entering hotel lobby there was nobody to be seen at reception and no bell to ring. After several minutes a member of bar staff who could see us from next door came and asked if we wanted to check in and promised to find someone to assist. Another few minutes later a rather harassed looking lady appeared from the back office area, completely ignored us, and promptly answered the phone. Eventually, having dealt with that caller, she decided to assist us. We had booked two rooms, a double & a twin, the former of which was more expensive. She hurriedly gathered the keys to rooms 1 & 4 and instructed us to proceed back outside the main building, and around the back, to our rooms, which were to be found in an annex block around the side of the hotel building. This was the first we knew of any rooms being in a separate annex.
On entering, room 1, the twin room was found to be recently refurbished and very acceptable.
Room 4 however was dire and smelled fousty and damp with a filthy carpet, broken towel rail, broken taps, blood stained bed linen and frankly should not have been offered to anyone.
On complaining we were advised that no other rooms were available but offered a small price reduction and a complimentary drink. If we hadn’t been so exhausted we would not have stayed and I really hope that this room is now refurbished before offered to anyone else.
On a positive note, breakfast was ok and they accommodated our earlier request for GF cereal & bread.
However on balance overall, this was a very unpleasant night’s stay for us. I didn’t even want to stand barefoot on the carpet, it was so dirty.

We booked the Solway Lodge Hotel in Gretna Green between the dates of the 13th and 15th July 2021 as we were attending a friends wedding. On arrival the young man was pleasant on Reception and although first impressions were unnerving we decided to think positive. We were directed to room 18 on the top floor directly above the kitchen which we found at the end of a very dated/shabby corridor. If I thought that was going to be the worse then I was in for a shock. on entering the small room my feeling of despair travelled deeper! I wish I could find one positive aspect but all I found was issue after issue. the wallpaper was peeling from the walls, there was stains on the ceiling and around the window, the lampshade at the side of the bed was cracked, the bedding smelt like it had been stored for to long, the drawers were broken and most would not open or close and the wardrobe door was litrally hanging off its hinges, Infact the hinge was no longer attached to the wardrobe and when you touched it the whole thing shook, it was that badly put together. If that falls on someone it could really hurt them. In the bathroom the toilet seat was attached incorrectly, the floor tiles were cracked and hot water.... non existent! We only stayed in the hotel to sleep and eat breakfast. On the first morning we went down to a very limited breakfast from a waitress who clearly did not want to be there! she took our order and though it was hot it was basic and incredibly small and missing the haggis she had specifically asked if we would like. She then proceeded to dump the toast on our table........ After we had finished eating. In the second morning a different, more pleasant waitress served us breakfast though hot was again basic at best and I wonder how cheap some of the ingredients used were. I had to ask for my glass of orange juice to be replaced as the glass was cracked all the way down. My husband and I had been looking forward to spending some well deserved quality time together after a very challenging 18 months. The best part of this stay was leaving. I would never recommend this accommodation to anyone it is advertised as a 3 star. I would struggle to give it one. I think it's time the owners take a long hard look at their property and how to update it. Since our stay we have placed a complaint with booking.com who contacted the property on our behalf. Even after seeing the evidence they refused to give us any kind of money refund instead ingredients offering us a free night's stay as compensation. I have declined this offer and feel completely robbed by the owners.

Stayed here during the storm last night and unfortunately the window broke it was so windy! The owner and staff were amazing and moved us to another great room straight away, it was warm and lovely.
Honestly they couldn’t be more welcoming and accommodating, the breakfast included in the room price is also absolutely amazing.
Bargain prices for such a nice hotel.
Thank you so much again for a lovely stay.

We stayed here for 1 night whilst on a tour of Scotland, this is a perfect location within walking distance to the outlet shopping village & also the blacksmiths. The food here is delicious, I had haggis, neeps & tatties for starter & we both had sweet & sour chicken for main, we both chose to have half & half rice & chips, well it’s more like a whole portion of each, the meals are very large but very tasty. We had one of the chalets out the back which was lovely, it’s spotlessly clean. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area & would recommend friends & family to stay here.

Stayed here 5 years ago and had an enjoyable stay , so had no hesitation in booking again. Unfortunately it looks like there has been no maintenance done in the past 5 years with paper under the window peeling off and chipped paintwork. The cleaners needs to put the vacuum behind the radiator as it was very dirty. The kitchen expelair went all night so we got little sleep and couldnt open the windows on a stuffy night. The wifi , which was mentioned last time is still very poor. The breakfast was good and the one lady serving was very pleasant. We will pay extra to stay elsewhere next time.

Ideal room for a dog, straight out the room door to outside. Although, noisy as smoking area for the bar.
Dog can be left in the room if dining in the hotel and allowed in the bar after 9pm. We were not happy leaving our dog so walked to a pub that allowed dogs in the bar area where we could eat. Room was fine, clean and comfortable, friendly reception on arrival

Lunch meeting with friends. Food is of excellent quality, cooked to perfection. Good range of menu choice. The establishment is very clean and well presented and the staff are pleasant. Down side being the length of time to be served. Had to ask twice for a drinks order to be taken; delivery 40 minutes from arrival. Food arrived after 45/50 minutes from arrival and to be fair the place was busy. Piping hot and cooked to perfection with generous portion sizes. Despite the long wait I would still recommend as I have been to this place many times.

Hi, Joanne Reay, who has a salon in The Greens Hotel (just as you drive into Gretna from the Motorway (if coming from the South it is the first hotel on the LEFT) and she is wonderful and So helpful. I am sure if you ring Green's Hotel they will either put you through to her, or give you her phone number. She is certainly the best in Gretna (and I live here!)
Hi
My review was for a meal for two and I think we spent ÂŁ60 8needing drinks. Yoy would probably get a better price if you contact the Solway Lodge directly. The food was very good value for money and the portions are good.
I hope you have a good wedding day.
Iain
