Quite disappointed with our stay. The hotel is promoted as a boutique hotel but I would say it's more of a traditional country hunting lodge. I found it quite old fashioned. Not the place to stay if you're an animal lover due to the large stags head hanging on the wall in the bar and the stuffed animals around the place. The bedrooms are quite small and the food a huge let down, we had booked for 2 nights dinner but cancelled the 2nd night due to the poor quality of our first meal. Good points - the staff are very friendly and helpful, the spa is fantastic, the grounds and landscapes are stunning.

The grounds and hotel are beautifully maintained. We stayed for one night as a getaway after 2 years without a holiday. The staff are friendly and courteous ( a special thanks to Abby for being charming and helpful) It is not a cheap place to stay and we were looking for something special for one night. The room (No 3 Hare)we were given was ,being polite, a bit small and while some may enjoy a hot bedroom ( we don’t) however the windows do open wide for fresh air. An excellent shower with gorgeous toiletries. The evening meal was very good as was the breakfast. My main concern was the extremely noisy and irritating extractor( I think) fan that can be heard especially near Room 3 which seemed to go on late into the night.

I have been to Walwick on several different occasions and always thought it was fantastic, however for Christmas 2019, I was given a voucher to use for dinner, bed and breakfast - a value of nearly £400. Then the pandemic hit in the March and we were in lockdown - no voucher could be used. As an adult with health conditions that made me vulnerable, I was unable to go anywhere even when restrictions were lifted briefly in the summer - and I had no one to look after my children with my parents in law being elderly or with health conditions themselves. I phoned Walwick and asked to extend the voucher to allow a little more time and they refused. I emailed to speak to management. Again they refused to do anything with my voucher. And then we went into lock down again. I assumed the refusal to let us extend our voucher was due to being a small business and the difficulty of the pandemic - but then I discovered that during the time, they’d taken over Matfen Hall so obviously that could not have been the reason. Another sibling got vouchers to another boutique hotel at the same Christmas and that hotel postponed their voucher and has allowed them to take their stay this December. It’s a shame Walwick don’t value people’s hard earned money like that. That was demonstrated with the wedding issues when they took over Matfen. As lovely as the previous visits to Walwick were, I won’t be back.

Lovely 2 night stay at Walwick Hall for my husbands 41st/belated40th due to the previous lockdown. We were a little bit anxious as to what the stay would be like due to a miscommunication with check in times/spa times and staff not being massively helpful on the phone. On our arrival that was put to one side with a really friendly welcome, great room which was super clean and a lovely bottle of champagne waiting for us. We took the champagne down to the bar and the young gentlemen in the bar was brilliant, super friendly and chatty as was the other female member of staff. We had dinner on the first night which was ok, it looked amazing however didn’t quite match up to its looks in the eating. There’s nothing bad to say about it but if it tasted as good as it looked it would of been 5 stars. The next day we had afternoon tea which was nice but there was no menu to say what the tea was going to be. The scones were mixed with savoury and sweet however, no condiment for the savoury option and one of our party doesn’t eat cheese scones. It would have been nice to have been given a choice, having said that when we did ask for an extra sweet scone the staff were more than accommodating. The staff were lovely and helpful. The spa was just ok. It’s very small and that seems a shame as it could be so much more when there’s a big gym that didn’t seem to be used whilst we were there. It’s such a beautiful place and what made our stay was the staff and room. Just seen on their instagram about exploring their 100 acres of private grounds, we’d have loved to do this but there was nothing to suggest this during our stay.

Wouldn't have shared my experience with the general public as I'd already raised my concerns (discreetly) with the hotel on checking out. However the Hotel sent a link so, on their head be it ......... Rooms & general areas,: excellent Staff: Hard working & friendly (sometimes bar service a little slow) Spa & pool facilities: Pool small & odd selection of equipment in gym but all well maintained & very clean Restaurant: Food excellent but on 2 occasions (out of 3) services was all over the place. The lack of good kitchen/restaurant management was not up to the standard of an establishment charging the prices they do and took the edge of what was otherwise a great experience. Would I stay again? Probably, but might not recommend to friends without a warning
