Detailed Reviews
We were made to feel most welcome on arrival with cold fresh mango juice. The owner of this hostel speaks great English. There is a generator to cope with the power cuts. A washing line is available. The room is slightly dated but had three beds and a large en-suite. The food was excellent, we ate here in the evening.

Our room opened onto the central courtyard where there were plenty of shaded seats, a well kept garden and humming birds flitting from flower to flower.
Welcome drink on arrival and great breakfasts.
Generally excellent but there was no water in the fridge.

Arrived from Trinidad and YaYa the hostess made us feel immediately welcome and was so incredibly helpful. Head for Playa Los Cocos beach, very relaxed, local vibe, food and drink. Accommodation clean, comfortable, traditional evening meal provided.

We stayed at hostal castillo for our honeymoon and we enjoyed it soo much. We loved Yaya who was so kind and helpful en also Theresa (the woman who made all our meals) was the best. The rooms were clean and food was great! Thank you so much for making our stay unforgettable.

+1
Nice little paradise in the central village of Playa Giron. Beach at 10mn by walk and Casa located at the main intersection. Very convenient. All amenities included, cleaned rooms, fair price, very nice ladies around to help with anything :) Nice indoor garden/terrasse. Thanks to Jaja and family to have made our stay enjoyable :)

Accommodation very spacious and confortable with pleasant terrasse and lovely internal courtyard garden. Quiet. Yaya is charming. Had two very good meals with good wine at a reasonable price, difficult to find in Cuba !
Very interesting chatting to Manolito about their life and discovering his self built tractor. All in all, a very agreeable short stay. I would recommend.

After being warmly welcomed by the landlady we found the entrance, the courtyard as well as the room clean and well kept. We enjoyed a tasty dinner and breakfast. The place is absolutely recommendable because of the high personal attention of the owner.

The rooms at El Castillito are spacious and very clean. We stayed in one of the larger rooms with an enclosed patio. The bathroom was large, spotless and had lots of hot water. There are also rooms that look out on the beautiful enclosed inner garden. Here there are hammocks for relaxing, a freshwater shower for after the beach and many beautiful plants to admire. It is truly a delightful place to spend time relaxing after a busy day. The hostal is centrally located at the main intersection of town so walking anywhere is quite easy. Yaya and Manolito are wonderful hosts. They will help you plan your stay in Playa Giron and Playa Larga and are so helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfasts are delicious and plentiful and if you decide to have dinner at the house you will not be disappointed. This was a quiet and restful stay, one of our favourite stops during a month long visit to Cuba.

My wife and I had a one night stay here as we travelled around Cuba. We stayed in five different home-stays, each with different characteristics, all were great.
Yaya and her family are wonderful hosts, as you can see by the other reviews on here, the room we had (#1) was spacious and comfortable with a big ensuite bathroom. The room had aircon, a fridge with some drinks for sale.
We had the dinner in the evening and the breakfast the following morning, the food was lovely both times. The only improvement I could think of would be to have some of that amazing Cuban music at dinner time!
The hostel is well located, we wandered around town and walked up to the beach (about 10 minute walk).
In the morning we went to the Playa Giron Museum, which we found fascinating (pay an extra $1CUC and watch the movie, it had English subtitles and explained a lot of the history). Opposite the Museum are some shops, bank and market stalls.
We would thoroughly recommend staying here.

This is a brilliant place to stay in Playa Giron. The Castillito is recently built with nice clean rooms (plus I don't think many other places in Cuba have a castle theme!). There's a lovely little garden with hummingbirds in the morning, and a shady hammock.
You have the option to eat at the casa each night, and Yaya employs a chef who cooks excellent food. The breakfasts are also first class.
There are bikes for hire. You can either cycle, take a bus, or taxi to two nearby beaches with good snorkelling. (Both beaches are paid entry, but food and drinks are then provided). Punta Perdiz, on the road to Playa Larga, has very good snorkelling, although the restaurant and bar there isn't that great.
There are other beaches nearby which don't require paid entry, but don't have any facilities to speak of. There is a beach within Playa Giron itself, but this is absorbed into the large, unattractive hotel at the centre of town.
If you don't speak Spanish, don't worry: Yaya has the best English of anyone we met in Cuba.
