We have stayed here now 4 times and this was the first time since Geoffrey and Janice have taken over. The standards are just as high, the fantastic quality of the rooms, the comfy beds, the food are still as amazing as when the previous owners were there. These are difficult days for privately owned hotels such as this - all we can say is if you want somewhere to stay in this beautiful region of France, La Villa de Mazamet will completely delight you and, like us you WILL return.

This is really a boutique hotel at B&B prices and – even with a history of good reviews - every aspect exceeded our expectations. We hadn’t realised that the property had changed hands in the Spring but the delightful young couple who have taken it on seem determined to continue in the same spirit and at the same high standard as apparently prevailed before. Geoffrey is French and Janice is Malaysian but both speak perfect English, if that’s important to you. Between them they do everything, with no extra help… Janice primarily cooking and Geoffrey mainly front of house. Before we even checked in G was immensely helpful with advice and emailed itineraries for walks that we could do on the way to Mazamet. On arrival we were offered tea and the best homemade chocolate cookie ever. The room then was spacious, elegantly furnished and decorated, well equipped (expresso machine, safe, ironing board… the stuff of luxury hotels). The beds had deep mattresses and fabulous cotton sheets (embroidered with the Villa’s logo) Indeed, many touches that make you think you’d be paying 340 Euros, not 140 for the room, and of course here it includes breakfast. I know this is Mazamet not the Cote D’Azur, but it’s really very good value anywhere. We were staying on a Sunday night and were in fact the only guests, though they had enjoyed a large party the night before. There was no sense, however, that the service for just us was anything less than “full on”. The dining room was set up beautifully for our (no choice) 4 course dinner, with immaculate crisp white table cloth, classy cutlery, lovely glasses, etc. And most importantly the food was more ambitious in both execution and presentation than we could have expected. We started with a delicious butternut soup (a touch too dense if I am being really critical) served with croutons and sharp, fresh goats cheese; then a filo parcel of confit duck, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes, with a madeira sauce, then a trio of superb local cheeses (ideally they might have been accompanied by a small green salad to freshen the palette after the hearty main course, but these are details); and finally a sablé tartlet, filled with three textures of Reinette apples from their garden. It isn’t giveaway at 36.50 euros but it isn’t overpriced either, for food of this quality. The wines (quite a short list) were very fairly priced with a very tasty Minervois La Feline from Borie Maurel the most expensive red at 26 Euros. It would be nice if they could stretch the list to include one or two more “special” bottles from farther up the Languedoc ladder for the occasional splurge, but the selection they have is perfectly good to be going on with. The Rose Cremant de Limoux served by the generous glass as an apero was outstandingly good value. Breakfast was equally fine, with lots of unexpected extras on top of all the basics, like fresh melon and pineapple, homemade banana bread etc. First rate coffee too. We hit the most atrocious weather so we couldn’t take advantage of the delightfully set-up garden areas. Nor did we use the Spa. But again these are not the stuff of the typical B&B. We were sorry to be staying only one night and shall certainly return... and for longer!

If 10 is the best rating you can give, Janice and Geoffrey deserve a 100. We were met with genuine personal welcome, a personalized hand written note, and a room that exceeded our expectations . An amazing huge bed with a choice of pillows that soothed our weary heads.A Bathroom that was a pleasure to go into and a shower that was a dream and certainly deserves 5 stars. The attention to detail was amazing . If you are looking for something that shouts lux with pool, spa , and all the rest you have found it . Janice has the culinary skills of a michelin chef . Geoffrey prepares amazing gin and tonics !Don't tell everyone it's our secret ) ! We will be back Ps they called me to tell me I had forgotten my bottle of cartier perfume and have arranged to get it back to me! Now that is service above and beyond !

A lovely old house converted into a small hotel that serves up charm in buckets. Beautiful decor but also modern amenities where necessary. Stunning warm welcome from Geoffrey and Janice. Location is excellent, within walking distance of the town centre yet hidden in a quiet street that you can also easily nip out of town into the surrounding countryside.
