In 1708 three brothers from the noble Marchi family built a castle that protected the island and the surrounding area from invading Ottomans and harassing pirates. But, the real value of what the Marchi family brought to the island was their vision, science, art, and culture — the light, dawning from the European Enlightenment. Today, the Marchi Castle hosts the Martinis Marchi Heritage Hotel, which continues to reflect the enlightened thinking of the noble Marchi family. The hotel remains a bright place of light, as Šolta remains one of the most untouched places in Dalmatia, and is full of its own, beautiful surprises, such as the island’s hidden, completely private coves, the turquoise sea, and pristine nature. The island hangs in a harmonious balance of rich simplicity, light and enlightenment, progress and tradition. Šolta and Martinis Marchi Heritage Hotel are a place of a visionary legacy that lights the way for others.

Wonderful overnight stay for the second year running. Only has 7 rooms, so feels very exclusive. The hotel is a reconstructed nobleman's palace, built around a stunning pool area and faces on to the lovely Maslinica harbour and marina. Our room was large and comfortable, had a great bathroom and was very quiet. We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant. Lots of choice at breakfast and great to sit on the pool terrace. Very friendly and welcoming service. A pleasure from start to finish. Top tip: don't bother with booking the island's one and only taxi: the bus from Rogac to Maslinica takes 15 min door to door.

The staff- especially Mario- were so kind and helpful. From the minute we stepped off of our boat until leaving they could not do enough for us. Even messaging us before was useful and always with a quick response. The hotel is amazing, from the the location to the room decor and the pool area. Breakfast is actually in a kitchen and they cook the breakfast for you there and then which is just incredible. Thank you for making our honeymoon perfect! We can't wait to stay again next year.

If you are looking for a romantic hotel by the sea, where you will feel like you are in a fairy tale, be sure to visit the luxurious castle hotel Martinis Marchi. It is also a suitable place for a wedding. You can arrive at the hotel in style by boat, your own or the hotel's, Martinis Marchi has its own marina. By car, you can get to the island of Å olta by ferry from Split, it takes about 50 minutes. Even if the hotel is fully occupied, you will not meet many people here, there are only 7 exclusive suites. I recommend staying in the tower. The suite is on two floors, I almost got lost in it haha, and you have the best view of the whole Maslinica. The hotel also has a fine dining restaurant right in the harbor. You can read what trips you can take here or what the beaches are like in a complete review including photos on my blog: hamiczech.tips, in Czech and English.

We stayed one night in this perfectly located hotel. The room was large and clean. Unfortunately the reception was not warm and I am still baffled that the receptionist was not very forthcoming when asked if it was possible tho use the pool for three people (we booked a room for two) as we had friends on a boat nearby. Very reluctantly she said 'yes' as there was nobody else using the pool. If you pay Euro 680 for one night (included a 15% discount.....) you would expect that hospitality is part of the DNA of the staff. Not very impressed with the other guests, mainly a certain Russian clientelle....

Response from Ivan Kuret, General Manager at Martinis Marchi Hotel
Responded 3 Aug 2021
Dear guest, we are really sad to here your impressions from the visit. We like our guests to feel relaxed, safe and we believe in "family style" atmosphere in the hotel. It is a small place, as you know, were all the guests usually knows who else is in hotel. We respect guests privacy and this is exactly why we keep the pool area for hotel guest exclusively. We understand if this was not well accepted from you. As for the other guests, we have wonderful people coming from all over the world, even during this difficult times. They are all very dear people we always look forward to welcome and sea again and again in our Maslinica.

Wow, what a spectacular place to stay! The hotel is set in a beautifully renovated 17th-century palace. The staff are super friendly and professional and the pool is just amazing. My room was really indulgent and had some nice period features. You’re just steps from the pretty marina and a five-minute walk to a lovely beach with crystal clear water. Solta is a quiet and stunning island, and the pretty little village of Maslinica is just perfect for a peaceful break.

This is without exception, the best hotel I have ever spent time in. The service was exceptional with attentive care, and remarkable attention to detail. The rooms were clean and well kept. The breakfast was perfectly executed but classic fare. The pool area was gorgeous and relaxing. We also had a 30 minute massage, which was added relaxation in the spa area. The sauna and steam could be ready with 30 minutes notice and were nice private areas to relax.

This lovely place is the right accommodation if you are looking for something special and privacy. The
Hotel has only 7 suites, so the whole area is really exclusive. Our room, the pool, the garden, really everything is very clean and well maintained. There are enough parking places and they have even charging stations for your ev. For dinner we went twice to the restaurant which is one of the best in Maslinica, with a nice view. The staff is multilingual, highly professional and outstanding friendly. We also got a short introduction of the hotels history. We can highly recommend this place, especially if you love boutique hotels like we do.

From organising our visit during Covid, the staff were helpful and once we arrived we were so welcomed. All the staff were incredible throughout with service and helping organise things. Very good restaurant for lunch and dinner, the ambiance is really nice too. Our room at the top of the tower was amazing and so picturesque. The village is perfect for a chilled experience and some nice local eateries. We would love to stay again, thanks for an incredible few days.

Value for money is 0. We spent 2 weeks during the august of 2012. The room was fantastic(Erlach room). House keeping held the most stars. The menu and the quality of the hotel restaurant were 5 stars. The problems started on the second day, when the waiter refused to deliver breakfast to the pool. When we asked the manager how is this possible, he said that he doesn't have enough people for it because the owner doesn't let him employ more waiters (I don't think that is my concern), it was strange to me, especially because when we came there, the manager (who's name is Goran) said that this hotel will deliver everything that we want... The water in the pool was really hot which we are not used to, and only after few days they regulated temperature of water... Furthermore they made breakfast on the pool with another waiter, therefore the first waiter was lying in the beginning, saying something that is not true... (really funny and unprofessional...but he is the cousin or some kind of relative of the manager of the restaurant... ) Next situation was that that Goran invited people to show everybody the castle, like a tour... After he did the normal temperature of water, they sold 1 apartment to a group of (I think Italian) tourists, about 12 or more persons and the pool became like public pool. One day, we wanted to rent a yacht, however the yacht in the hotel was broken, so we were forced to find a yacht to rent on our own. On my remarks, he said that: "The guest is not always right"... I heard that phrase only once in my life. We are writing this with such a delay for the reason to be emotional but cold and reasonable. As long as the hotel is under such bad management, i won't be able to even have a cup of coffee on its premises.

The Hotel is by far the only luxury hotel in Maslinica. The physical property is beautiful and of a high standard of refurbishment. The pool area in particular is delightful. The hotel is small and only has c6 rooms - so it's quiet and serene.
The poor rating is for the following:
1. Our room was in the Tower - 117 steps! No warning was given and my wife has asthma. The hotel is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
2. Air con in our room was broken throughout our stay.
3. In the evening water stopped coming out of our taps 0 hotel was able to rectify this.
4. No turning down service
5. Breakfast fell short of basic continental service
6. Shockingly, on the day of the departure, the Hotel wants you out the room by 11.00am (acceptable for a smaller hotel) and then out the hotel by lunchtime. We had to plead to be allowed to use the pool until 2.00pm on the day of our departure (unacceptable).
7. If you want to charter a boat, the Hotel's offer was considerably more expensive than other local options - so check around. The same applies to transfers.
8. The Hotel's Spa is small - great massage; but no hairdresser.
9. Finally, the Hotel would be advised to have an over 12 year old policy. For a serene hotel, to have a noisy 3 year old disturbing the peace wasn't in keeping with the pool's serene setting.
