We have stayed here numerous times over the years. Our complaint has been that the rooms were functional but dated. Now after a 3 year absence from Italy, we returned to the Hotel Continental and have found the "Privilege Room." We were advised to ask for it when making a reservation and we did. The room was now modern (no mid 20th century hairdryer with a hose like before). The bathroom was modern. The bed and furniture have been modernized from the boring light stained wood of the past. All in all, a welcome improvement! The lobby, bar and breakfast area (which has been moved) are well furnished and accented. I do not know what the percentage is of rooms that are "privilege rooms." If it is an ongoing renovation in progress, they should definitely continue and finish the job. The location remains fabulous right next to the beach. The hotel swimming pool is large with much room around it for chairs. The staff remain courteous and helpful. We look forward to staying here again when we next return to Tirrenia. And the price is right. It is very moderately priced.…

Good Hotel with very nice staff, realy good food - delicious desserts. Hotel with big pool. Good starting point for trips to Pisa, Florence, Sienna, Cinque Terre. Nice clean sea. We stayed here for 7 days - in hotel everything was OK.

We went as a family of four (our children are young adults). We chose this hotel as we needed a place near public transport so that we could tour the area. From here we could get to Pisa, Florence, Lucca etc via buses and trains, which was very easy. We also wanted to be near the sea. This hotel was fabulous. Always clean. Lots of areas to sit and relax. The rooms may have not been luxurious but they had everything we needed and were kept spotlessly clean by the friendly and efficient cleaning staff. Clean towels and plenty of shampoo, soap etc. The restaurant was lovely and the food was delicious. We did intend on eating out a lot but as the food was so good in the hotel, we only dined out on one evening. The staff in the dining room were amazing and we would like to thank Riccardo and Aurora (and the other lady, whose name I cannot remember). They were so lovely, kind and knowledgeable. They helped us out as our Italian is rubbish! Thanks guys! Last, but by no means least a huge thanks to Mario - you are a wonderful gentleman! The hotel has a great pool, with enough sunbeds. It's also nice that there's direct access to the beach. Breakfast was a mess. Coffee needs to be ordered, but we had to wait half an hour before we got it. Clearly, something is wrong with the management here, since the staff is walking around not seeing any work... This hotel was supposed to have air-conditioning, but it didn't work half the time we stayed here. When it worked, it was very noisy. The AC needs to be renewed asap! There were only two power outlets in the entire room, which seems to be quite few for a four person room. Overall, the price-quality of this hotel isn't great. For the amount of money we spend, we expected a hotel with better standards... We wouldn't recommend staying here.

Hotel was fine in general in terms of the building and the location within Tirrenia is good although the town is tired and there isn’t much there. Room very small (although clean) but we booked an economy room so to be expected (was already over £130 per night, not great value overall). They did produce a range of items at breakfast for my gluten intolerant husband. However, a few things made our stay worse: - The noise. Woken up early in the morning each day by someone (probably a child) running up and down above us, and then the housekeeping trolley and vacuum. Very thin walls and floors/ceilings it seems. Plus every night there were people yelling, laughing, basically partying outside. On our last night (we only stayed on weeknights) it sounded like an actual nightclub. During the day the pool was full of children screaming and divebombjng in (can’t really be helped I guess unless the parents are more considerate but there is only one pool really plus a tiny kiddie pool next to it, not really two as the listing suggested). We came here to rest and relax for a few days and that just wasn’t possible. And we did request a quiet room! It was conveniently located though - close to the stairs down to breakfast / pool and beach. - Grumpy staff when we turned up for breakfast soon before it ended (“it’s finished”) having slept badly due to the above and storms in the early morning - We had to go and buy towels for the pool / beach sunloungers / chairs - there wasn’t even an option to rent them. I was a bit worried after I've read all the complaints and negative reviews here on tripadvisor, but the hotel was a wonderful surprise! I realised that people mainly complain about the hotel interior being too dated. Well, we actually liked that! It's retro, and it made us feel like we travelled back to childhood! I honestly prefer it over the modern rooms that can feel cold and soulless. The rooms are large, clean, comfortable, and the whole place has its own unique spirit. The staff was very nice. The pool and beach just fabulous and a very nice breakfast too. The only complaint on my side would be no vegan options during breakfast but there was some fruit that made up for that and an almond milk was available if I asked.

First of all I don't know why the hotel has so many bad reviews. When we booked the hotel we weren't sure because of the bad reviews. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel. Rooms and the hotel area are clean and looked after. We weren't supposed to have a balcony but we got a room with pool balcony view, what a great surprise. The staff is really friendly, helpful and nice. Room was cleaned every single day and had an air conditioning. The swimming pool is great with free sunbeds. The beach/sea is absolutely lovely. Sunbeds for sitting up are free and if you want to have a lie down sunbed you need to pay for it which we didn't really like... Otherwise breakfast was brilliant and we really enjoyed staying here. We would definitely come back!

Good hotel with excellent very friendly staff. Excellent service Pool and beach areas good and well kept Room good, with balcony with side sea view Fridge and safe all included Bathroom modern with slightly small shower but even I at over 1.8m high and almost as wide got in ok Breakfast and dinner good Fixed 4 course menu for dinner but a choice of 3 or so items for each course I don’t know why they have so many negative reviews. I assume they must have made substantial improvements for 2022 Building looks a bit odd from outside but that’s personal choice Definitely would come back

The worst experience ever. This hotel has amazing pictures on their website, to convince you to book with them. When you arrive you will see that this hotel is not what it is. I dont needs words to show how they are, just look at the pictures. Never compensated, no excuses nothing ! i even e-mailed their headoffice, no reply.. Well done a hotel that calls itself Grand Hotel Continental..

Dear Guest and Colleague, we read your review, posted identically on Google.com. To clarify, we inform you and the readers that on the evening of July 27th we received an email from you, with attached photos and a threatening tone, to challenge the room assigned to your brother-in-law at check-in. In the email you asked if what was assigned was the type booked; we checked and the assigned room matched the booking. The hotel has various rooms, each different in terms of view, position and rate. Despite being in high season, but given the dissatisfaction shown by you, the reception agreed with your brother-in-law to change the room from the next day, informing you via email on the morning of July 28th. From the moment of the room change, we have not received any other reports either from you in writing or from your brother-in-law verbally on site. The General Management has not received any emails from you, no position is on standby, we invite you to check your mail. We believe that our reception reacted in a serious way, impeccable in time and manner, finding a solution that would satisfy the guest. Two weeks after the end of your brother-in-law's vacation and especially after having immediately solved your problem, we regretfully receive your reviews to denigrate the work of a reception, as well as stating falsehoods about the lack of response; as a professional in the sector, your attitude seems inappropriate.
