La Foce and Chiarentana are so much more than a magnificently beautiful estate with diverse options in which to stay in the World Heritage Val d'Orcia. The books and especially the published diary(ies!) of founder (with husband Antonio) Iris Origo enliven these hills along the

We loved La Foce - the gardens are sublime, the gift shop fairly priced and the staff totally gracious and charming. We stayed at their b&b and were so glad we did. Oh to live in Tuscany - incredibly the owner, Iris, still resides in one of the Villas. #magical.

Wow, what a location. The Tartaruga apartment has three bedrooms, two baths, a terrace, a kitchen, living room and dining room. The original castle dates back to the 11th century, but this room is more modern. What a great experience to walk through the ancient door and gate

A place of extraordinary beauty, with everything in superb taste and presided over by a staff that is genuinely hospitable and knowledgeable. We used it as a base to explore Tuscany, guided by the superb advice of Benedetta, the staff member who oversees the care of guests.

Dear Patrick, How wonderful to plan Christmas 2016 at La Foce! I was there with friends for the month of September 2015 (in the beautiful Gonzola restored farmhouse) and it was fabulous. The Val D'Orcia is so gorgeous ... and unspoiled by any commercial development - it's like driving through the pages of a Tuscan calendar. I'd suggest asking Benedetta Isidori, the rental manager at La Foce, your questions about the weather and garden tour. She will respond promptly. As for the drive from the Chiusi train station to La Foce, I'd suggest renting a car with an excellent GPS & you won't have a problem. Our GPS wasn't so good and we got a bit lost the first time we made that little trip! Be sure to plan a lunch or two at La Porta (in nearby Monticchiello) and dinner at Dopolavoro (on the La Foce estate). The Wednesday morning cooking classes with Anna & Sabriba were outstanding. The Abbey at Sant'Altimo was also one of our favorite day trips. Happy travels, Laurette
