We visited the Florida Keys early November and due to a change in our plans we booked a last minute stay at Conch Key and were excited to have a room with a sea view.
We appreciated being able to leave our food in their fridge before check in, and also being able to borrow glasses and crockery. The room was pretty basic but had a nice rustic feel and it felt clean. You could see the sea…. but you had to get across the carpark and busy road first. We had the Tiki bar to ourselves that evening which we enjoyed, although there was a reasonable amount of road noise.
Unfortunately we left a bag in one of the drawers in our room. We got a call after we left but were not able to turn back as we had to catch a flight and traffic wasn’t looking great. We were advised that they could send this on, so we gave our credit card and address details - I understand there is a standard UPS form which is used by hotels as it is a common occurrence, and they seemed happy enough to do this.
To cut a long story short, our parcel has never arrived. After countless phones calls to Conch Key (the parcel was posted on 27th November… or 12th December; the form was stuck to the front of the box… or pushed inside it) and also to UPS, it appears that the parcel was dumped on the counter at the UPS store rather than waiting for it to be processed by the clerk. The parcel has disappeared and was never processed by UPS. The contents included my prescription glasses and some clothes which are not really much value to anyone else, but will cost me a significant amount to replace. More importantly the paperwork included our credit card and address details. In my view, leaving this information in a public place is a serious breach of personal data. I have been told that Conch Key do not take any responsibility and that this ‘service’ is just a courtesy. I fully appreciate that we should have checked the room before we left, but these things do happen. We didn’t intend to use the drawers, but as there was nowhere to hang our damp towels, I had to move these items to clear some space. I also don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect such a service when you have paid a significant amount to stay in a basic room with a rather questionable sea view. We treated the property with respect during our stay, we left the room tidy and also washed and returned any borrowed items to the office. It’s a shame that our property wasn’t treated with the same respect rather than just abandoning it in a public place.

VERY VERY rustic. Example air conditioner required turning off it was so loud.
Clean room ..beds soft.. bathroom clean .. coffee supplied. Pool was excellent!!! ... but walkways are very old planks... outside areas sandy because building is physically placed sea level. Expensive to keep a boat there... $35 per night...also cost to launch... place could use updating.

Our car rental broke down right in front of this Inn at 11am. We got stranded by 2 different tow companies and it is now 8:30pm. We spent the entire day lazing at their small but very clean heated pool and catching sun on their beautiful loungers and hammocks. Several people dropped in for the jet ski’s. Emery and his wife were just wonderful, he offered to drive us to a restaurant for some food as their cafe is no longer open. They checked on us every couple of hours. Barry/Billy offered us use of the kayaks and paddle boards and sat and chatted with us. When dinner time came and went, Emery asked us to join them for homemade burgers from the grill beside the tiki bar. We are now checked in to our cute and spacious room that is clean clean clean. It is dry in our room, no dampness at all. This place offers a perfect cottage like atmosphere. We have a table and 2 chairs, 2 beds, open closet, bathroom and kitchen sink, mini fridge, coffee pot and microwave. Tv, lamps and a dresser. Our back patio door overlooks the bay and water as far as the eye can see. We could not have asked for more. Ask for room #4 and you will not be disappointed!!!!

First off, we arrived on time but our room wasn't ready yet. From the moment that we got there it was very clear the owner knows how angles work on pictures. The "giant pool" was nothing more than a feet bath, "the beach" was literally a pile of rocks. Don't even get me started on the motel's restroom located at the back. It looked like it had never even seen a cleaning wipe and it smelled like someone died in there. When we finally were allowed to check-in our room it looked like they were trying to mask a smell with a candle and the airco. The walls of our room were paper thin which resulted in a rough night due to all of the traffic and noisy neighbours/other guests. When a truck would drive by it litteraly sounded like it was next to your ear. The Motel is located next to the bridge of the island, so when a truck or a heavy car would drive by the walls and our beds would shake.

When you arrive they make u pay 50% and u can't get a refund. They even tried to charge us extra for my 2 siblings, and they tried to pull the same stunt on another guest. Please drive 10 minutes further for an affordable and nice resort!

We booked the lodge via Booking, but upon entering the staff immediately started with saying that the given rates were wrong, a welcome was never uttered.
We did not feel welcome and in consent we cancelled the booking.
I haven’t come across such unwelcome behaviour since times. Fortunately there are much nicer venues in the area.

When we arrived, the place was very old and run down. The tiki hut and hammocks they advertise are dilapidated and unusable. There is no cafe. The staff is only there from around 9 to around 5. We were two couples and had booked two rooms. Neither room had adequate towels/accessories. My sister and her husband's room was an extremely small, triangular-shaped room with no closet, missing flooring and no view. There was no central air. Our balcony was rickety and we were afraid to go out on it. The table out there was filthy and the chairs plastic and mismatched. Our wonderfully advertised sea view was obstructed by a building roof. No one cleaned our room the whole 5 days, or even made the beds. We had to ask to have our trash emptied. The young couple who worked there were always polite and tried to accommodate our needs, but they could not make up for the condition of the hotel. We were to stay 5 nights but left early because on the fourth night a group of guests were partying under our window and going up and down the stairs yelling and making noise until 3 am. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. They did promptly refund our money for the unused night of stay.

DO NOT STAY HERE

Way overpriced. Worst ever and we stay in very budget friendly places. The “beach” is some rock you can climb over and jump into the water. Charged me for temporary hair dye on linens that can easily wash out. Could not do anything relaxing on the property. We had to drive out to a beach in Marathon to enjoy the water. A stick was the locking mechanism on the back sliding door.

Save some time, money, and headache and go to a cleaner place.

They advertised a kitchenette. No stove only a two burner hot plate and one side worked. We had to hunt up a cooking pot! Microwave on top of refrigerator worked. Outlet by sink and no countertop so we had to hunt up an extension cord to cook on the one burner. Used to provide gas grill by the pool also. Outlet in bathroom didn’t work. Beds were old and soft, had a backache every morning. Dresser had broken knobs and drawers. Our kids flew in and drove long distance for their father’s 70 birthday and this place was disappointing. Cardboard was taped over broken window. Motel staff unfriendly except for Bill who leased the jet skis paddle boards and kayaks. Pool area pool nice. Chiki hut nice but huge hole in roof.
The place is an utter ripoff!!

Pictures on website are ancient times as it looks NOTHING LIKE IT AT ALL…would not give our money back and wonder why, have to grab what they can, after all.. sucker born every minute and that’s us… I cried and cried….they should be ashamed of themselves. We work hard for our money and vacations are far and few between… they should be ashamed!!! Especially in these times, taking advantage of people!!!!

I’m a life long resident of the Florida keys. For the past 15 years I’ve been running my small charter fishing business at the conch key fishing lodge during the months of May and June. A month ago, I met with management in person and arranged to keep my boat there. When I left that afternoon, everything was good to go just like every other year.. This afternoon I arrived to pay for my reserved slip only to find out that the newest manager recently decided I wasn’t allowed to keep my boat there for liability reasons... seems very strange to me. I provided insurance documentation as well as my captains license as requested. Two different managers in a months time frame is concerning. They could have at least given me a call to let me know I wasn’t allowed there anymore? My father and I fish a combined average of 200 trips out of 2 slips during these months and I’ve always supported their business in anyway possible. You can assume Ive always sent a good amount of clientele their in the past. As a visitor somewhere, I always look for local insight. I can tell you one thing, if this is how they treat locals, I’d hate to be a visitor.
