I made a booking through Agoda.com for a night and it was very last minute. The booking process was fast and quick and I liked the fact that they mentioned that you will pay US$3 Green Tax at the reception. And not getting a surprise charge on arrival. Took the bus from Velana International Airport (Male Airport) and alighted from the second bus stop. Took a short walk from the bus stop and found the hotel. It is best to ask the locals for directions. The hotel is quite new; and modern so so speak. There is no elevator so please be prepared with your luggage (tip: it is recommended to leave your luggage at the airport baggage counter for a low US$5 and just bring the stuffs you need). The reception guys were quite nice a spoke English. Very hospitable. The room was spacious, well-lit and had a king bed with lovely red carpet! The TV was good, LED flat screen with plenty of channels. The room had a balcony with beautiful views of the ocean.... Did not try the food as had to check out early.

This place is one of the cheapest options when I booked on Agoda.com and the location is great. It is just a one minute walk from the last bus stop of the Airport-Hulhumale bus. At the airport, the bus stop is outside Burger King / Thai Express, on the left of the exit. The bus comes every 30 minutes and costs 20 MVR. You can get MVR at the airport money changer or ATM. Before you travel, download the offline map of Male & Hulhumale on Google Map, and mark the location of TLM Retreat. At Hulhumale, after getting off at the last stop, just follow the directions on Google Map. The hotel is only 1 minute away. Within a 1 minute walking distance from the hotel, there is a beach, the bus stop for the airport bus, and a row of shops and cafes. The ferry to Male (5.50 MVR) is a 10-15 min walk away. Just walk along the road with the row of shops until the end. In my opinion, Hulhumale is much more peaceful than Male, without the chaos, noise and traffic. The hotel is basic and the room is small (which is typical for rooms in Male, as I found out later.) The room is generally clean but the toilet has a faint weird smell. There is a complimentary bottle of water, and a minibar. Towels and shampoo are provided. There is wifi on every floor but the wifi is slow and intermittent. (Later I found that internet is generally slow in the Maldives.) Breakfast is included and it consists of bread, omelette, sausage and juice. There's no lift so all the best if you have luggage.

We had to stopover for a night to check-in to a resort the next day. What you need to know about getting to this hotel is that you can actually take a bus from the airport which arrives every 30 minutes. It only costs MVR20 per person so change up some MVR or else, the hotel will send a pick-up which cost USD10. That is insane. Just take the bus which cost approximately USD3 per person, get down at the 2nd stop and get directions from the bus operator. It is less than 5 minutes walk away from the bus station. It seems that everyone in the airport refuses to assist and insist that we call for the hotel pick-up. I'm glad I went with my gut feel. I only changed USD20 because my resort is all inclusive. I need to save that $. We also paid USD3 per pax for Green Tax which was applied by the government. I read that it is a daily charge. Water in this hotel is chargeable at USD1 for a 500ml. We refused to drink it so we went out but got stranded as all the shops were closed but decided to stop by a restaurant and turns out it is a decent place. Viva La Vida sells water 1L for a lower price (I can't recall). We also ate their tuna fried noodles. Breakfast is provided by the hotel. Toast, ham, sausage, fruits and pineapple juice. They also gave 1 bottle of water... Finally. The TV doesn't work, it wasn't even plugged in but I just let it be, don't need a stranger in the room. Thank God the bed was fine, the shower was hot, there was balcony to dry our clothes after dipping at the beach. The beach is only 5-10 minutes walk away. Come to think about it... I might just stay here again. Cheap stay and really not too bad.

This is basically a no frills hotel in Hulhumale where we had to stay a night before going to the Islands in the morning by public ferry. The room is basic with double bed, ensuite bathroom, air cond, LCD TV, minibar, towels, toiletries etc Good for a night's stay, more like a backpackers'. Wifi is weak and as good as not usable. The toilet has slight smell when you flush, but bearable. You get what you pay for, and a simple breakfast of toast bread, sausage and juice is included. To get to this hotel, take the Airport-Hulhumale shuttle bus, located about 20m on the left side of the airport entrance/exit. The fare is MVR 20/pax and there are only 2 stops in Hulhumale. Get off at the 2nd & last stop which is essentially the main bus stop in Hulhumale. On you right, perpendicular to the bus stop are rows of shops & the hospital. In front of you, where you get off, you will see blocks of 3 storey apartments. Walk about 30m and turn left at the 1st block of apartments, then right for another 10m and you will see the hotel. This hotel is about 15-20mins walk to the Hulhumale-Male public ferry jetty (Ferry fare MVR 5.5 to Male).
