I have Just recently stayed at Rockcliffe Hall with a friend, From the moment we arrived we were well and truly looked after. The staff were extremely professional, polite and couldn’t do enough for you. The hotel was immaculate, the room was spacious and luxurious with two double beds, crisp linen, fluffy pillows and even a television in the bathroom. The grounds were beautifully kept and a delight to walk around. The food in the Orangery was to a very high standard, Having dined at many a fine dining establishment this was certainly high up there as one of my most memorable, using most of their ingredients from their own walled garden it followed their fork to plate ethos through each course they served. We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing, the Spanish wine sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and the wines that she recommended accompanied the courses beautifully. The lounges were opulent and very grand but cosy, the bar well stocked with the finest spirits and local gins were aplenty. The cocktails were very Carefully made using the finest and freshest ingredients by experienced bar staff who made sure each cocktail had attention to detail. The club house served less formal but very good food, this is a short walk from the main house or the hotel can offer a ride in their one of many buggies or in the cooler months a ride in their van. The club house is set in the beautiful grounds of the hotel, very convenient for the golfers who wish to take a break from playing. The spa was extremely clean and offered an extensive list of spa treatments, the body bliss was amazing and a real treat to help you get relaxed into the spa experience, the thermal journey was a little heaven where you could just sit back and forget about the daily rat race we all find ourselves in. The spa garden with infinity pool where you can even purchase a glass of your favourite chilled beverage is a must, Albeit an extra cost to the main spa. It truly is beautiful Lunch in the spa was again to a very high Standard offering a healthy option where preferred. Plenty of options for breakfast I can highly recommend the eggs Benedict and the freshly squeezed orange juice a real treat. An unforgettable weekend break, I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel where nothing is too much trouble and the Food is exquisite. I would Most definitely love to return.

My friends and I have just spent 2 wonderful days in Rockliffe Hall Our 2 bedroom apartment was immaculate offering lovely accommodation and was fully equipped with everything we needed throughout our stay. We made full use of the spa enjoying all the facilities from the pool 🏊‍♀️, the infa- red sauna 🧖‍♀️and the experience showers to name just a few. Breakfast in the Orangery both mornings just cried out"Eat me and Drink me"with a selection 👌to suit all needs . All staff from Hanah on reception to the breakfast team were customer focused ,helpfull and pleasant Special mention to Evie this morning who went above and beyond to allow all our party to have a scrumptious breakfast 😋 Your staff Jason are clearly passionate about their work and are great ambassadors for your brand 👏👏

Just returned from an overnight stay, having had the most amazing time. Everywhere is spotless, staff are fantastic and couldn’t do more for you. Room was beautiful, loved all the little extras such as the toiletries and drinks in the fridge. Facilities in the spa are gorgeous and relaxing, can’t wait to return!

A little late in posting this review but we booked the gourmet retreat on 8th september for my partners 34th birthday. We also added on time in the garden spa and a rasul mud treatment. I can honestly say the stay was wonderful, food was delicious and all the staff in the orangery restaurant were particularly welcoming for both the evening tasting menu and at breakfast. It was a little quiet when we were in as it was midweek but it wasn't even noticeable as the staff were literally on top of everything, they are a genuine credit to the hotel. As it was quiet it worked in our favour in the garden spa as there was only one other couple. Would definitely adding this on as an extra.. didn't even bother me that it was raining!. Rooms are spacious and well decorated (we stayed in the new section of the building), I'd seen a few negative reviews previously but I'm honestly baffled by these.....I think some people will find an excuse to complain about anything! Will definitely return at some point. Lovely relaxing stay which is just what we needed!

Rockliffe Hall Hotel is magnificent in all respects. It is truly a five star hotel and I would give it ten out of ten in every respect. We didn’t have time to use either the golf or spa facilities but when we checked out both areas, we were extremely politely met. Great staff and congratulations to the owner for his tremendous foresight and courage in creating something that anyone and everyone would be proud of. Wonderful, wonderful.

First off, the hall in general is absolutely beautiful! Very fancy and adequately clean. The spa facilities were great and there was never a moment where there wasn't any towels or supplies you needed. But I do have some howevers... We dined in the Nu Sana restaurant for our lunch. Unfortunately although the hotel is a 5 star, the staff we were served by did not meet that rating. We were served our meal and told to enjoy but did not have cutlery but that is human error, it's not just us they were serving! My main issue and one that made our stay less than relaxing was the fact we weren't informed of a specific price allowance. When selecting our spa package from the website, the one we chose (ultimate spa retreat) did not state an allowance and plainly indicated two course lunch and two course dinner as well as all the other things included. So I was rather surprised when I was charged £33 when initially being told it's just drinks we were paying for! I have anxiety so I didn't say anything initially but it was rather odd so I queried it. It turned out to be that we had an allowance of £25 per person for lunch and £30 for dinner. Which is fine and if this was made clear, there would be no issue. Even with this allowance in mind, of which I assume all staff should be aware of, only one allowance of £25 was taken off, making our £58 bill to £33. I raised all of this to a few people, firstly Luci in the spa whom helped by contacting reception in the hotel and then by Hannah in the spa reception. Hannah was very professional, contacted all the relevant people and kept us updated. Without this help I would have been over charged but instead, she was able to get a credit onto our bill for the inconvenience which certainly improved my mood! But then we had an issue with the spa treatment. On our itinerary that we received before the day, within our courtesy call the week before and on the day of arrival, we were informed 3pm for our treatment. Me and my boyfriend went off and asked where to go for our treatment, to which we were handed a questionnaire to fill out. However, despite the staff already knowing we had not been to Rockliffe before, they did not inform us of where we needed to wait and actually watched us head upstairs where we waited 15 minutes before a lady came and asked us if we were ok. We stayed we had been waiting a while for our treatment to which she explained we needed to be waiting downstairs! We were escorted down to reception to figure out what was going on to which we were told half 3 for the treatments despite being told 3pm on multiple different occasions! After spitting my dummy out, the treatment was great. Very informative and relaxing. The rest of our day and evening was wonderful. Fully enjoyed our evening meal but was quite shocked when I saw £32 for a small sirloin and only 8 chips (admittedly rather large). I would expect to pay that much for a fillet... But I won't be a snob. The room was beautiful with stunning views of the golf course. Very spacious and the bed was comfortable. We had a bottle of prosecco as requested prior to us coming for our anniversary and they even left a little card. We also got a cute desert after our meal to wish us happy anniversary ☺️ Despite all the moaning I've included in this review, we had a great time. If we were more informed of what to do and what was included then this would have been perfect.

Good morning Holly Thank you for your review, having investigated in much detail with many of the team yesterday and today, I can confirm the following Firstly I am very pleased you loved your room, the bubbly and personalised card we left for you, and also lovely you found the spa facilities superb also. I would like to apologise for not having cutlery in Nu Sana, I know this was rectified immediately and apologies given But I have to challenge on some points, I know you didn't want to speak Lauren, Jodie, or Amy on the day about the times of your treatment but we did have to change your treatment times by 30 minutes to manage some long term absence from a therapist, which is out of our control. We left you two voicemails, one on the 8th and one on 14th to reconfirm the new time but you never responded to either message. You do mention you have anxiety and I did understand this may have been difficult for you to discuss before you arrived. Having read your personal confirmation this morning it clearly outlines the food allocation for lunch and dinner very clearly. Whilst waiting for your treatment our receptionist asked to reconfirm your treatments and you insisted this was not necessary and disappeared upstairs. I just wanted to make sure that I take your review very seriously hence the internal investigation, and although you enjoyed your stay very much, these points raised above did put a dampner on things. If you wish to discuss things further feel free to contact me directly at jason.adams@rockliffehall.com Thank you once again for your review, and I am sorry it was not perfect. Visited for an overnight Birthday treat with another couple who have stayed before and purred about it. Good location, nice views over the grounds and golf course, all immaculate as is the adjacent Middlesbrough Training ground. Cheery welcome and bottle of fiz whilst we waited for our room. Dinner in the Orangery was very good, cooked as we all variously ordered and served with a smile then to bed in a large room, comfy bed BUT then you start noticing things:- The lacy modesty curtains in the room were creased up with use to such an extent they had a large gap at the join point and clearly in need of a good wash and iron. The main night curtains were spattered with spilt drink stains , or was it something else! I noticed what I thought was a split to the inside of the toilet door but closer examination as we were leaving showed it was excrement!! Clearly missed by both cleaner and supervisor. Toilet and Bathroom doors were heavily finger marked, claerly not touched with a cloth in some time. My wife ordered two poached eggs on toast, fried delivered then replaced with two hard boiled/well done poached. Gave up. No enquiry on departure as to the satisfaction with our stay, hence my comments on here. I would have explained all on here to them but if not bothered, neither am I. Our friends said they felt the place had declined since the last visit and needs some attention. I agree.

Sorry, long review but suffice to say, poor accommodation and chefs that cant cook! We have just returned from 2 nights at Rockcliffe Hall and I am not impressed. Due to a complication with the booking system our chosen room was not available so they moved us to a 4-bedroomed property that was a 2-minute walk from the main hotel. The house was quite dated with chipped furniture, curtains hanging off the rails and no cold water coming from the en-suite tap. This is not what I expect from a 5-star resort. I did mention this to the manager of the hotel, but she failed to act on it and get it sorted out during our stay. As we were travelling with our 7yr old son we had a choice of 2 restaurants, The Clubhouse or Nu Sana with The Orangery being off grounds due to my son being under 12yrs of age. Nu Sana was decided to be no good either as the menu was not very child friendly and they made it clear that no child menu would be available, even though the Clubhouse restaurant has one. The Clubhouse restaurant does not have any atmosphere and the ambience was not the best, but I guess it is for golfers and ok for a spot for lunch. No candles on the tables although I could see them sitting in a box, the waiter informed us that they usually do but not sure why they haven’t bothered tonight. Our starters were nice but it was the main courses that let this place down. We all opted for the Potato Gnocchi in Tomato Sauce, the Gnocchi was swamped in tomato sauce and tasted rubbery and quite disgusting. I complained to the waiter and he informed me that it is bought in and not made fresh on site! A 5-star hotel where the chefs are unable to make pasta is really surprising. The tomato sauce had no flavour as it was not cooked out, it was a tin of tomatoes heated up! In fairness to the staff, they removed the dish from our bills along with a bottle of wine, they also offered to cook something else for us but we had seen enough and time was getting on. We moved on to the bar area but were informed that children are not allowed in the bar area so we would need to sit in one of the two lounges to the side, these were nicely appointed rooms but again, no atmosphere, no candles, the lights were too bright and slow service where you had to get up and look for service. Why are children not allowed in the bar area? We also found the bar to be poorly stocked with a limited choice of gins for example, and a grumpy barman serving you. We attempted to sit outside the Orangery for a drink before our meal at the Clubhouse and waited for an age to be served by one of the many staff that we could see standing around in the restaurant who just seemed to stare at us but not come out to take an order. I went into the bar to try and get some service to be told that they do not serve drinks outside on a Friday or Saturday night due to being too busy. They were not busy, in any way so this did not make sense. Again, a 5-star hotel with 3-star service! Breakfast is in the Orangery and offers a very small selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals and pastries but no cheeses or hams etc…. They have an ala-carte menu with a good choice of dishes, two of my party chose the American Pancakes and one had the Eggs Benedict. The pancakes were dreadful, flat, too sweet and tasted like they were purchased ready-made from a supermarket and heated up so I asked the waitress if they were freshly made and she admitted that they are bought in and heated up. Having been a chef in my younger days I know that making a pancake is one of the basic things you are taught, along with making a good omelette, so why are they not making them fresh??? I complained to the duty manager about the Gnocchi and the Pancakes but rather than admit they were not freshly made, she tried to cover for the chefs and lied to me. It turned out that the following morning for breakfast, the waitress informed me that they have ordered in a few pancake pans and will be making them fresh from now on! We didn’t stay for dinner on our second night and opted to eat out at a superb restaurant/pub called the Bay Horse in Hurworth, excellent food cooked by real chefs that put the chefs at Rockcliffe to shame! This place could be really good if it relaxed some of its strict rules surrounding children and dogs as there is a difference between being child/dog friendly and child/dog tolerant. Gleneagles could teach you a thing or two on how it should be done. I see the Managing Director, Jason Adams likes to make comments on some Trip reviews so I invite him to contact me directly should he like further clarification regarding my review. 12/08-14/08 - House No 2

Such a beautiful hotel - staff were friendly and helpful and the room over looking the golf course was stunning. The spa is also lovely, I’ve paid extra for the spa garden before but I honestly don’t think it’s worth the extra, especially if it’s raining like it was when we arrived. We ate at the clubhouse and, although the menu was a little limited, the food was delicious, as was breakfast in the orangery in the morning. We’ll definitely return as it was a relaxing and stunning place to escape to.
