We met Mr Sugi in this hotel as or butler. He is an amazing, kind and positive person and he made our trip very special. He patiently thought us so much about Balinese culture, lifestyle and traditions including the ceremony before the silent day, the silent day itself. He showed us the nature around the hotel and amazing parts for meditation. On last day we also met Mr Dewa at the restaurant and he was very kind man. In general all the staff were very nice and welcoming. The hotel was very beautiful and clean. Mr Sugi is definitely a big reason for me to come back to Bali and this hotel.
Perfect Jungle Experience! We came to Kupu Kupu Barong for our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it. We had the river view villa with an infinity pool and a view of the jungle and the river. The idea was natural and untouched. We love the frogs and bugs singing to us. Our massage was phenomenal; there was no music as the jungle has its own with the sound of the river, the wind, and the critters, no need for a music background. The staffs are very accommodating, with a smile across their faces all the time. The restaurant manager Dewa was accommodating and friendly. We had a romantic dinner, and it was excellent with the view of the sunset. We had to change the date and time for this dinner three times, and the staff gladly accommodated us. We recommend this place if you like to experience the jungle in Bali.…
we enjoyed staying at kupu kupu barong and had the luck to stay at a "duplex pool villa" (no. 2). the villa itself was very big, there would have been enough space to stay with two or three kids. the cleaning team did a good job. although there was so much space and the villa was very traditionally furnished, you could easily see that there is still some work to be done to bring everything back to a 5-star level. This was evident throughout the resort. From our point of view, more should have been put into the preparations and partly very necessary renovations. The current state of the development does not correspond to a 5-star resort. However, the standard of the staff certainly does. We would especially like to mention Wismawan from the restaurant service team, who does a top job. Very attentive and courteous. Also Palestiba and Dian. Very nice, good company and courteous. Both under the management of Karsana. The local trekking and local cycling excursions included in our package were also very good. Our guide Dharma is very knowledgeable, led us through the jungle forest, around the two adjacent villages and explained a lot about Balinese everyday life (village life, temples, herbs and plants, rice cultivation, waste etc.). We were also able to visit the houses of his colleagues. It is also worth mentioning the "L'Occitane Spa" mentioned everywhere on the website and at the main entrance. For us, it made a strange and unclear impression when directly at the main entrance (near the reception) there is a brand new spa building with L'Occitane Spa written on it. There was also staff there, but not to take bookings (which is done at the reception) and the new shelves in the glass building were totally empty. Not a single product was on display. For a treatment, you are then led to very old, weather-beaten little houses in the middle of the slope of the steep resort (note: for the guests in the lower villas, there are electric vehicles to pick you up. The lift on the slope is unfortunately broken). Since these old houses are in the middle of the resort, you can hear the birds and the rushing of the river, and unfortunately also a lot of chatter (cries) from various guests and staff... This is despite various "Psst-Silence-Zone" signs. The guests do not pay attention to this and it is not pointed out. Too much is simply "tolerated"... This makes every treatment, even if the spa staff do a very great job (Ariane deserves special mention here!), certainly not a spa treatment of a 5-star hotel. We will be happy to come back when the facility is back to what it used to be. And we are very excited about the new part in the "jungle" on the other side of the river, where a new hotel part is to be built. Plus a rope park in the middle of the forest. In addition to this expansion, however, all the old villas and houses in the hotel should first be dismantled or redesigned. Too much is still lying fallow... …
Dewa is good in assisting and helped with us here and the stay is good especially villa number 6 has an amazing view (which we stayed) there are no trees blocking the view room and the eminites they provided are good and food is little expensive other than that overall good
Fantastic hotel with great views. Some amazing trips out included. Bike ride hot but well worth the sweat. River boating and a ride on a ritual Enfield I would definitely recommend. The spa was amazing in the trees. The staff could not do enough with special thanks to Karsana and Dewa. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you want to do nothing you can or take advantage of the trips.
Very nice stuff. It was very beautiful hotel and restaurant. Good foods and drinks. Clean as much as possible. Mr.Karsana is very nice and very kind. He played our national music for us every day in lunch time. My wife and I enjoied it alot.
A beautiful location with our own plunge pool overlooking the forest! Service was immaculate the staff can't do enough for you. We were half board and the choice for your 3 course dinner was plentiful and cooked to order. The excursions that were included were brilliant, we did river rafting, cycle tour (hot but really informative) trip in a Royal Enfield motorbike and sidecar - brilliant! We could have done a river trek but abstained due to bad knees. Shuttle into Ubud 5 times a day Loved our stay here, so thank you Kupu Kupu Barong
The villas are so so so beautiful here. Also they are very clean and things are on their place. The service is also very good and our stay here was an amazing experience which we will cherish forever.
This was our second hotel on our honeymoon in Bali, and it provided a beautiful contrast to the beach. It's set right on the jungle with incredible views of the Arung River below, and it offered the perfect setting for a fun honeymoon photo shoot. Staff and Support: Everyone we spoke to was so helpful and kind! Shoutouts to one of our butlers, Krishna, for all his wonderful advice about things to do in Ubud, and to one of our many lovely waitresses, Palestiba, for her attentiveness! Sometimes it did take a little longer than ideal to get a response or assistance from our room, but the staff made sure our needs were always addressed. Lodging: Truly jungle luxury! We had a private pool villa overlooking the river, and it truly felt like we were staying in Eden. Our room was decked out with some romantic honeymoon touches, and we appreciate the eco-friendly goals of the hotel. Everything was very comfortable. There were some issues with consistent internet service, especially when it rained, but that's what we get for visiting during monsoon season. Activities: We had an amazing massage experience at their on-site spa! The hotel has a shuttle that goes into Ubud central frequently, which made it so easy to get in and out of the city center worry-free for shopping, dinners, and a dance performance. It was also very easy to access nearby activities, such as the Tegalalang Rice Terraces and Monkey Forest, as well as some rafting excursions! Great location for a variety of things to do. Dining: We had an absolutely beautiful experience with a private, romantic infinity pool dinner our first night! The food was absolutely delicious, and we had such a wonderful time taking in the beautiful scene. The food at La View and room service was a little pricey for what it was, but it still was tasty. We appreciated the wide variety. Their buffet for breakfast was good but maybe not amazing. Our favorite experience, though, was the floating breakfast! Absolutely worth it for the pictures, and we had enough food that we weren't even hungry for lunch.…
We were celebrating our one year anniversary and wanted to say somewhere special, and we don’t think we could’ve found a more special and unique place than Kupukupu Barong, in Bali, and food. You were literally in the middle of the jungle/forest, and the nature is exquisite. The villas are very isolated so it’s extremely quiet and peaceful and relaxing. The restaurant is fantastic. we ate there almost every single night, and we have so many good things to say about the staff. Especially Pak Mang, Dian, Plebestina, Dewa, and Chef Sonder! They were so helpful and genuine and friendly, always smiling always kind, we will miss them all and the resort very much! We cannot wait to return again, one day! Marilyn and Brad
