This is a beautiful old and unspoilt, characterful manor house, away from main roads in a little village, with lots of space for our large group of 12 (family plus our daughters' 20-something year old friends). We walked daily in the most beautiful countryside with flowers everywhere (and hardly saw another walker) using the excellent Sunflower 'Walking the Picos de Europa' little guidebook and another '10 circular walks in Picos de Europa' - these proved essential, saved a lot of planning, took you to amazing places and we found the local maps give you little idea of how long something might take and there are so many tracks that aren't evident on the maps that we definitely would have got lost! We shopped in nearby Potes (15 minutes) and cooked every night in the kitchen or…

Olmares provides a wonderful base for exploring the Picos de Europa. We followed walks from the Sunflowers book "Walking the Picos de Europa" and enjoyed some amazingly quiet walks. If you find walking in the UK too busy, then the Picos will be just the job. We did a few all day walks and didn't see another person, even in the little mountain hamlets you pass through. Our apartment was very clean and the kitchen had the essentials for cooking up tea. WiFi means you can keep tabs on the weather or goings on back home. Potes is 10 minutes down the road, giving access to more popular walks and attractions like the Fuente De cable car. The (newer) Lupa supermarket is pretty good for a small town and seemed to be the only shop in Potes which stocked fresh milk. After a hard…

From the moment Richard open the doors to our balcony and we saw the most amazing views before us, to the moment we left this holiday was as peaceful and adventurous as we had hoped. Everything you need near by in Potes and the amazing beaches within an hour is you fancy a day of sun bathing.

Olmares is set up on a side of a hill in a small hamlet with just bird song a& cow bells. Portes with it's shops and restaurants a short drive away. Fabulous walks and wildflowers in May, still snow on the high peaks of the Picos de Europa, a tremendous antidote after a week of city sightseeing!

Our first time in the Picos but it won't be the last. Olmares House is simply magnificent, full of character and in a tremendous location high up on the side of a picturesque valley. The house is comfortably furnished and the garden and the courtyard were both well used for outdoor meals, barbeques and just lounging around in the sunshine. Being first timers we did appreciate Richard's helpful written suggestions regarding days out, local walks, where best to see the local wildlife ( which is plentiful ) and the best resturants. We stayed with my son, daughter in law and our two young grandchildren who never tired of endless games of hide and seek in this big old rambling house

The Olmares manor was the perfect place for our family vacation. I can't praise the place enough! The manor was an incredible foil for our trip in Spain: a 250-year-old home, with all the sweet niches you'd expect, but with enough modern comforts (we weren't upset that the TVs were small, since there was free WiFi to keep us all occupied). The home was incredibly clean, the beds comfortable. And the view was unbelievable. As observant Jews, it was important to us to have a full kitchen--with a large fridge and stove top. It was also important that we have places to walk on the Sabbath--since we don't drive. There were hikes right outside our door. In terms of a family vacation, the place was ideal: tho' we needed to drive about one hour to get to any major hike in the Picos de…

If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you. Situated in a small mountainside village, all you can hear as you sit on the terrace are cow bells and birds - very peaceful and the views are simply amazing! The accommodation is very well equipped and finished to a high standard. There's also a lovely communal lounge with lots of maps, books, DVDs etc. The nearest main village (Potes) is about 20 mins away by car - well worth a visit (especially on a Monday if you can which is when the market takes place). I'd also pay a visit to Caloca - a hillside village from which we did a beautiful circular walk and ended up in a meson (inn) for lunch, recommended by Richard. All in all, a beautiful place which I would definately recommend.

Over the past 5 years we have stayed once in the Apartments and twice in the house. All visits have been wonderfully memorable and this last trip of 3 weeks in the house especially so. Echoing the comments of the other contributors, the house and apartments have so much old character; sleeping on top of the old stone hearth in the house over glowing embers on rare cold summer nights is an experience all should try. We have yet to try Richard's 'cocido lebaniego' cooked in a pot beside the embers but it's simply noted for the next time.Needless to say, paella cooked on a pot over the barbeque provided a rich feast on several occasions during this particular visit. Walking in the Liebana Valley is a rare delight and there are enough walks from the house and nearby to easily…

We stayed at the Olmares apartments as part of our Honeymoon and it provided the perfect setting to both rest and recuperate post the fervour of the previous few weeks. The apartments were beautifully finished, containing all mod cons and yet still retaining the original character and feel of the old farm dwellings they used to be. The views from the balcony were spectacular and it’s a shame that they don’t get the sun into the evenings, however breakfast with the sun rising over the hills opposite almost made up for this! Richard and Suzanne were the perfect hosts, always available when you needed to ask a question or to offer advice, but equally happy to leave you to your own devices. True, it is a little way from any restaurants so someone will have to drive – I would…

I have stayed in these apartments a number of times over the last 8 years. The apartments have been created within a lovely old building in a pretty village but are very modern inside with everything you could need. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The area itself is stunning, only 20 minutes from Potes, with excellent walks nearby. Can't wait to go back again.
