We stay in a variety of hotels, 4 star and Premier Inns. We booked this one for our last evening in Scotland before a 6 hr drive home. We booked it because it had good reviews and was 4 star. We arrived at 6.30pm and were allocated room 224. The bathroom was dirty. There was urine around the wc hinges and the sealant was urine stained in two places. There was mould on the sealant and grout in the bath. The towels were thread bare. We had booked a table in the restaurant for dinner, so thinking we'd make the most of it, went for a pre dinner drink in the bar. The bar was full so we had to have our drinks in the corrider outside. The upholstery on the chairs was blackened. 7.30 came for our table so we went through to the restaurant. The host told us, despite several empty tables in the restaurant that our table was in the bar. There was no free tables in the crowded bar though. Also one of the bar staff was not wearing his face mask correctly and looked scruffy. We left and ate in Stirling. Unfortunately, as we had a drink in the bar, we could not leave. We spoke to the receptionist and asked for a refund as felt mis-sold and would not be staying for breakfast. She declined as our booking was via booking.com. She offered to clean the room but that should have been done already. The bed appeared clean but unironed sheets and a stale smell. The carpets were also dirty in the corners. We chose this hotel for a pleasant final night in Scotland. It spoiled our whole trip. We didnt use the bath or have our paid for breakfasts and left early. The basin also didnt drain. We understand covid has impacted, its a large old building but it should be 2 star. Do not stay here if you like a clean hotel. We paid £97 for our room and will be requesting a refund.…
We arrived after a long drive and expected a 4 star hotel this place was not, when we arrived in the room the bathroom was less than pleasing with mould and cracked tiles and towels were thread bare also the bedding was in tatters. We had booked the restaurant and thought it had good reviews so would negate the room issues, ordered pre dinner drinks and ended up drinking them in the corridor as nowhere to sit in the bar area, then went through for dinner only to be told we would have to eat in the bar area once there was a free table even though we had booked in advance and the restaurant was half empty. We left and went to eat locally. I would not even give this place 2 stars and would advise not to stay here. Save your money and go to the Premier Inn.
The room we were in was very nice with lovely views. We had dinner and the meal was absolutely lovely. The staff were all very nice and helpful. I The hotel is a beautiful building which was an old school and it maintains the look and you can imagine the pupils walking the halls. I will definitely return for another visit
Really enjoyed our stay here, the room was gorgeous with stunning views, thought we were getting chocolates and a fruit platter but even better we got a bottle of wine!! Would like more of the essential toiletries, towels and toilet paper, but thats just a preference to me. He dinner was really nice, we enjoyed it so much, they even personalised the cheeseboard for our taste. My complaint is the breakfast, the full dry up wasn't very nice, the bacon wasn't cooked very well and the sausage was horrible. Would like to see tattie scones and black pudding on there for it is a Scottish hotel experience. Overall I would definitely come back here.
The hotel was lovely. A very traditional feel and a perfect location for exploring Stirling. The pool etc was amazing and a lovely way to unwind after a long drive. The food in the evening was excellent as was the breakfast. A very good, excellent value for money hotel. We will definitely go back
