It was a last minute booking for one night and cost us just over £40. Overall, there were positives and negatives about our stay, some of which need bearing in mind before booking. The good and not so good points to note were, that the hotel is very close to the sea front with some rooms affording a view I believe. Sadly ours did not and instead overlooked a huge skip sized pile of rubbish not belonging to the hotel. I would describe the room as a 'budget room' in all aspects. It was very clean, although a little tired in places and had everything that we required for a night's stay. The bed was very comfy and both of us slept really well, although I would imagine it gets a bit noisy of a weekend, owing to the bar next door snd the pub immediately opposite. The floors and walls were quite thin and we did hear other guests walking and showering. The art on the wall was hideous, someone's attempt at modern expressionism, clearly done over an already printed canvas, was questionable! The bathroom was small but clean and despite other reviews, our shower was fab with plenty of hot water. The staff were very friendly and helpful and despite not being manned overnight, when we did have a problem it was dealt with immediately. The description of 'parking on site' needs to be fully reviewed as there is a tiny carpark to the side of the hotel with parking for 4-5 cars only, the rest is 'on street' and unbelievably limited. Overall it was OK and I would say that you get what you pay for. Reading through other reviews, they possibly have nicer rooms than the one we stayed in. If you are looking for something special for a night away, then you definitely want to look elsewhere. But, if you need a bed for the night, with a shower, tv and evening stroll along the promenade then it will do just fine. …
Great place great price excellent, the rooms was brill with great views, the staff are great and the service was great the room was clean and the showers was excellent there was plenty of tea and coffee no need to hunt for supplies.
basic hotel , reflected in the price . staff friendly as helpful, good wifi and parking. however, the bar underneath meant lots of noise late into the night, as well as drunk residents returning to the hotel afterwards. a good location situated in the ‘rougher’ part of town but good access to the beach and town centre!
I was quite looking forward to this trip as i had not been to Whitley Bay since i was a kid (and i can see why) but when i arrived i was quite disappointed. After climbing up a very steep and cramped staircase i was taken to my room. My initial thoughts were “i suppose this isn’t too bad”, then i entered my room. The floor seemed like it hadn’t been hoovered for weeks, the door handle was barely hanging on, there was dried bits of food/sauce on the desk and i found a pair of (hopefully unused) men’s pants in the cupboard!! safe to say i won’t be going back to Whitley Bay and DEFINITELY will not be staying here again.
When we arrived at The Dunes Hotel the staff was very helpful and they took our suitcases up to our rooms. The rooms were very clean and the facilities that we needed was good. The beds were comfy. We enjoyed our stay and we would go back.
