Horrendous place, horrendous location and horrendous owners. Left soon after arrival as we didn't feel safe, especially after seeing the condition of the buildings opposite and all the drug taking and alcoholism. The owner even had the cheek to say we were lying and refused to refund us our money. Got blocked from writing a review on Booking.com so I assume anyone who complains is blocked from doing so! During our stay in Whitley Bay, the previous guesthouse we stayed in and a local cafe were aware of their bad reputation. Bathroom door handle broken, and mattresses looked like they were about 20 years old, no substance and bed frames very noisy.
I am a retired sociologist and nurse, and my husband is a retired Anglican priest. We stayed in Whitley Bay for a couple of nights. We were in room seven which is at the top of the building. This is a very cramped room with a sloping roof. A large person would have difficulty getting into the shower or toilet. The decor us a depressing grey and and the wall paper is coming off in places. The whole place is a bit run down. The light fitting was precariously hanging on (see photo). There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room which are of no use unless you have your own water supply. The sink in the toilet is so small and the taps so low there us no way you can fill the kettle. We had to go out and buy bottled water. The bed linen is of poor quality and again all a depressing grey. Towels also grey are scratchy. Although the room appeared generally clean clearly the light switches and door handles had not been cleaned for a long time - worrying in regard to fomite transmission of Covid. My night cream went missing on the second day. Staff were friendly, and the location excellent. In conclusion- I would only stay here again if desperate.…
We stayed in room 1..twin beds as booked.when we arrived the cleaner did not know we were coming.room not ready.told to wait in the lounge.toys all over the floor.best thing about the room was the shower.we chose to share the larger bed because the other one had terrible stains on the bed base.we got up early 6am and left for home. It would have been about the same price to stay in the premier inn on the sea front and next time we will.best part of our visit was going in to Newcastle on the bus.
Stayed here for 4 nights. Rooms ARE clean. TV,WIFI, the bed was comfy. Good clean shower. Tea/coffee facilities. Excellent value. Would recommend and I travel all over the country through work and this was a good B&B
For £39 a night don't expect the world as the rooms are basic and what we had was not a en suite but 3 different items in one room, a toilet, wash basin and then enclosed shower! There is a lot of work going on around the street with refurbishment of houses and hotels and gets a bit roudy at night with late night revellers. On the whole its a great place for contractors and works people in the area but not for families or couples wanting a break.
