This Hotel was recommended to us by 2 sets of friends and our own daughter and we can understand why. The hotel is in an ideal location near the cliff top, the room we booked was very spacious, nicely decorated and furnished, and serviced daily. The sea view from the balcony was lovely. The breakfast was excellent, served by very friendly and efficient staff. The owners Paul and Vicky were most welcoming and booking the ferry through them saved us a substantial amount. Highly recommended.

We spent some time assessing where to stay and, under relatively new ownership, this was great. Clean, tidy, spacious rooms, with (in ours - 14) stunning views of the sea and the sunrise. Nicely situated at the Cliff top, (close to The chine) and a short stroll down to the sea front. (Steep, but there is a public lift a 5 minute walk away) Rooms were cleaned daily and breakfast was certainly better than adequate. Lots of bread options and cereal. Tea and coffee on tap. A variety of cooked options too, which were speedily but well prepared and plenty. A nice little bar to socialise in all day and a pool out back in a sun trap. (We didn’t use it, so don’t know when the shade from the trees might impact). The owners and all the staff are extremely helpful and are always happy to offer help and advice on all potential sights and attractions. Lots of leaflets to help too, in reception. Double yellow lines are everywhere, but, for guests, parking is available and free, but, at busy times may potentially be aggravating. 6 very usable spaces at the front, 7 if people parked sensibly, and more out the back, although at busy times you may have to double park. Therefore, if you go out without your car, leave your keys and hope other guests do too!! We rarely visit places twice ourselves, but would urge you to give The Havelock a try. I’m certain you won’t be disappointed.

This was a relatively last-minute booking, after our planned trip to Madeira was cancelled when it went onto the amber list. We come to the Isle of Wight most years and normally stay in Ventnor but wanted a hotel with a pool so the Havelock fitted the bill. We chose it based on the pool and the positive reviews here and we were not disappointed. The location is very good, just above the path down to the beach, coming out by the Fishermans Cottage pub. Although also close to the old village, the area was pleasantly quiet and peaceful with lovely sea views from the front lawn. Some of the rooms have balconies, ours was at the back of the hotel but fine for this as we had our own access to the swimming pool, which is in a lovely spot and catches the sune until late in the afternoon. The pool area was never too busy and the practice of bagging loungers with towels and disappearing is discouraged and all the better for that! The new owners were very helpful and accommodating and deserve this venture to be a success for them. The hotel is very clean and housekppeing was excellent. The one hour window for breakfast (0830-0930) could have been a bit tight but actually worked very well, due the efficient waiting and kitchen staff. I don't think we ever waited more than five minutes for cooked items and the quality was very good. The only downside to the trip, nothing to do with the hotel, was the difficulty of getting an everning meal at any of the local establishments. All those recommended by others were fully booked for the whole week and the two main seafront pubs who don't take bookings, stop serving food at 20.00, resulting in massive queues outside. It is not possible to have an evening stroll or a relaxed drink prior to dinner as there is little chance of getting in anywhere if you do. Apparently there is a shortage of casual / catering staff on the Island at the moment, which is causing these issues. That aside, it was a lovely and relaxinng stay and the Havelock is highly recommended.

I was in Shanklin 20 years ago and wanted to visit the beautiful town again for 6 days with an old school friend. The Havelock Hotel seemed like a great choice with a rating of 9.6 in a great location. Within walking distance to the Esplanade, Shanklin Chine, the Old Village and the bus stops. This hotel also has a good pool, which is very rare for local hotels. The arrival was warm and the hotel made a great first impression with its lovely lounge and good facilities. We were given 2 single rooms, they had new bathroom fittings and it didn't matter that a 4-star hotel had no fridge, no safe, no air conditioning and no "do not disturb" sign, which is actually normal for us. But, sorry to write this, if I can only bear the thin plasterboard walls in the room - even during the day - with earplugs in my ears, then my holiday is almost ruined. It rained one day and we had to stay in the hotel rooms. Noisy family with children playing on the left, loud male voice on the right for hours, cars arriving and leaving from the parking lot below the window constantly with loud greetings, phone calls, endless chatter with the hosts at the entrance door (my room was directly above) and in the evening on the 4th side of the room loud voices from the lounge with the bar, as the door there was never closed.
That's just too much! Sorry, but as a guest looking for peace and quiet, such accommodation is an imposition, even the good breakfast with the many varieties is no use.
I don't know why no other guest has pointed this out!

My wife and I had a very pleasant 3 night stay at the Havelock. Due to a cancellation, we were asked if we would like to upgrade to a sea view balcony room for a small fee. Which we excepted. This was a newly renovated spacious room with all the facilities you would need including a spacious shower. Breakfast was excellent! Paul and Vicky were excellent hosts and we wish them well for the future. We would certainly stay at the Havelock again.

A lovely welcoming homely comfortable hotel. Paul & Vicky were perfect hosts, along with their delightful little girls. The outdoor pool is an added bonus although not warm enough during our stay mid September. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious with huge choice. Bar lounge was very comfortable in the evening. Short walk down to Shanklin seafront or up to Shanklin old town. Everything was positive and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. To add, Paul gave us a trade rate on the Wightlink from Portsmouth to Fishbourne which was extremely welcome. Thank you and we hope to visit again soon.

Stayed here for Scooter Rally. Easy to find, plenty of parking, could see scooters from window, which helped with security.close to sea front etc.
But, what stands out most is the friendliness of the staff !
From arrival we were made very welcome. Shown to our room, details were given about Pool(towels provided) a section marked off at shallow end, no lifeguard needed, but both owners are trained, breakfast times etc. The extra touches that made us feel welcome were that on our first late night back, after seeing the island, was that the owner asked us if we would like a cold bottle of water for our room, which we then had each night. This was so needed after a long day. There are plenty of restaurants, short walking distance, away. Breakfast was full english, juices toast etc, could also order fruit & yogurt which meant it was kept cold. There is a relaxing bar area, with a family section. Although we did not use this, many people did. Games etc for children. And access to the garden through patio doors. The area next to the pool has seating etc, where you can take your drinks, food etc.
Rooms are really clean, newly decorated. Good size shampoo etc, hair dryer. Iron available from reception if needed. Showers are brilliant, good water pressure. Friends room had a bath, so you could request this. Also, small flight of stairs between levels, so ask from ground level if needed. We actually prefer high floors.
The Havelock is a credit to the owners. Nothing is too much trouble. The owners have managed to give The Havelock a family feel but good for adults too.
We would not hesitate booking here again.

The Havelock hotel is one of the friendliest hotels i have ever visited around the world. The owners and staff were so pleasant and helpful, going above and beyond on every occasion. The Breakfast was outstanding and such a good service as well. We were visiting to attend the Isle of Wight festival and one of our party lost their room key at the festival. The owner had to come in after midnight to rescue her and allow access to the room, which she did with a smile on her face. I would definitely stay there again and strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Shanklin anytime soon.

Visited this hotel , and had a very enjoyable time whilst staying here . Paul and Vicky the host were great in accommodating our party of 7 . Nothing was ever a chore, and always had a smile on their faces . The room i stayed in (No 5) had a sea view and , was very clean. Bed was very comfortable, with tea and coffee felicities in the room . Good wardrobe space , and draw space too , and a TV also in the room . My only personal comment about the room was the shower and bathroom were a little on the small side , although it did not rely effect my stay . Breakfast was great , full English, with local produce ( the sausages were fab ) , alongside , your fresh fruit , cereal , toast , etc . The pool was heated , although not a bath , it wasn't that bad , and towels provided . The bar was good with beer on draught , bottled beers , top shelf sprites . Finally, the host Paul and Vicky , and their team , were great . Service was good at breakfast , ( so you had to wait a little but nothing to worry about ) . From booking direct with them , they even manged to arrange a discount on the ferry , and even get us a earlier ferry on the return leg . Paul who was , fun and always on hand to help , Vicky likewise was always their helping out , even introducing her little ones to us all . I would recommend this hotel , the location is behind the cliffs so please beware if you have walking difficulties . Thanks once again we will be back at some stage . Baz and Shirley

We chose the hotel because of its location (minutes from beach) and the outdoor pool, and we were not disappointed! The hotel was spotless and the owners were very attentive. Our room was small, but had everything we needed, house keeping tended to the room every day, replenishing tea, coffee and biscuits etc. The sea views were fabulous. Coffee on the lawn in the morning after breakfast was heavenly. We didn’t move our car for the 3 days we were here, plenty of pubs, restaurants and attractions nearby, including the beach! What else do you need. This hotel is perfect for children too, we can’t wait to go back with our grandchild.
