Spacious well maintained rooms with comfortable beds and lots of hot water. Meals are prepared fresh and served by very friendly staff. Bathrooms are also spacious and well appointed. Only negatives - no drawers in furniture - minor irritation; no visitors lounge for pre- dinner drinks or after dinner coffee. Good location to visit Durham, and a host of wildlife reserves including Washington WWT. One suggestion would be fresh fruit at breakfast.

This hotel is a little gem. We stayed here this week. It is easy to get to, just off the A1(M) and is about 10 mins (by car) from Durham City Centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was superb and I would recommend this place to anyone, we had Steak and also the Chicken in Garlic Mushroom Sauce (which was really tasty), the steak was cooked to the way we like it. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The hotel is also a pub but you couldn't really hear anything from it. We had a fantastic stay.

Had a great meal at The Old Mill last week. Good layout and decor, fast service. Would recommend the homemade pie, exceptional! Loads of meat and couldn't finish it all. Would recommend for a good pub meal close to Durham city.

A bit of a gem, both breakfast and evening meals fantastic. A really clean spacious room. All the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking on site, plus free WiFi throughout the property. Easy to get as just off the A1(M) but within small the hamlet of Metal Bridge.

Visited the Old Mill three times now and have yet to be disappointed. The decor is cosy. The food is varied. The portions are generous and very tasty. The stake and ale pie with chips was served with a nice boat of gravy. Sundays, does not restrict you to meat and veg. There are lots of other options to choose from, lasagna ( again a belly buster) , currys and sausage and mash. All very tasty and great value for money. I would highly recommend this on any day of the week.

The food here was lovely, really big portions I thoroughly enjoyed it. Starters, main and dessert was delicious. Unfortunately the service was pretty bad, there was a few younger new starters it looked like, which is fine I have patience but we sat with empty plates waiting for a dessert menu for absolutely ages, ended up having to find a member of staff to ask what desserts they had. We waited another 15 minutes before going up and ordering desserts at the bar as no one was coming to see to us, again sat with empty plates waiting for the bill another half hour, had to go up and pay. It was later on in the evening so it wasn't that busy anymore, think staff had forgotten about us.

Very wide selection on lunch menu. Food well cooked and tasty. Friends all enjoyed their food. No booking required. We were not hurried and had plenty of time for a good gossip and catch up. Large car park.

We arrived before noon and it was very quiet. We sat outside and a waitress arrived promptly to take our order but we weren't ready. She came back 15 minutes or so later and we ordered cajun chicken wrap, ham doorstep sandwich and cheese melt panini. By this time more people were arriving. The food arrived, looking really good and freshly prepared. My daughter's chips were chunky and golden, my grandson's ham sandwich had ham about a cm thick and my wrap was full of interesting stuff. By now the place was getting quite busy, possibly a wake. The food was all excellent and very reasonable and staff very pleasant.
