Booked as a B&B package with my wife to cater for a night out in Durham. We had an upstairs room in the main hotel and it was spacious, clean and well presented. There were numerous ‘knocks and marks’ on the walls, furniture and carpets; but where it mattered (the bathroom and bed) things were immaculately clean and made for a very comfortable experience. We had drinks at the bar before we went out as well as late on when we returned. The bar staff were genuinely warm and friendly. On the morning staff were again very friendly as well as professional in assigning the breakfast table and taking our order. The full English we both had was perfectly cooked and delicious. All in all a very pleasant stay and we’d happily return in the future.

Met family for dinner. We couldn’t talk without shouting the music was way too loud which spoilt the whole evening. The staff were friendly and the food was good, and reasonably priced.Won’t visit again without checking if there is live music in.

Breakfast was disgusting, the poached eggs are done in vinegar and you could taste it. The bacon was rock hard & tasted very old.... Tried a full English that was inedible - egg was snotty & the hash brown was soggy. I ended up making my own toast!! The bins are emptied at 04:45am so that was a nice surprise wake up call. Drunken blokes very loud going back to their rooms at 1am... Room was very tired needs some TLC & a good scrub. The staff at breakfast were pleasant enough.. Shame as it could be a nice place.

What a little gem of a hotel. The best thing about it by far are the staff. They are so genuine and friendly. The food in the bar is great too. The room was spotlessly clean and although a little snug was perfect for a few days away.

I perhaps wasn't expecting a massive amount, but was really impressed. The room was clean and comfortable. But it's the staff who are a real credit to this place. They made all the difference. They looked after us 2 and they made our dog very welcome, fed him sausages (for free) and just made a fuss at dinner and breakfast. The staff are a credit to this hotel and need the biggest pat on the back. Thank you for everything.

With a choice of excellent pub restaurants in the area, we visited for a meal thinking the Honest Lawyer had undergone a refurbishment and would offer something similar or better. Whilst the outside has been painted blue and looks sharp/catches the eye from the road, inside the restaurant and bar appear very run down and dated (and in need of a clean and refurb). The food was underwhelming. I would say what we ordered was greasy and not particularly appetising presentation-wise (especially for the price range of the dishes). Service was prompt and not too intrusive, but their attire is also rather dated and needs modernising. I think with further refurb and attention to detail with respect to the staff and the food/presentation of the food it would be worthy of a visit, but we wouldn’t rush back given the other options elsewhere in the area.

Good Morning. I'm sorry to hear your visit wasn't what we would expect for our customers. Whilst the worked out the front has been started, unfortunatly the inside work has been held back due to things out of our control. Hopefully the work will progress in the new year. Please do keep watch for updates on our facebook page. I will also pass the review on to the kitchen. Great clean & comfy room. Plenty of hot water for shower. Great staff very friendly but professional. We ate lunch and evening meal in the pub and restaurant. Really large portions and good food. Great views from the room window - open fields and woodland. Flower baskets all around the hotel.

My wife and I, along with our dog, stayed for one night en route to Scotland. The check in process was swift and efficient and we were allocated a courtyard dog friendly room. The room was clean and the facilities fine for a one night stay. We ventured in the bar for a drink and were served and told we were welcome to sit anywhere in the bar. We stayed in the bar for an evening meal and the meals were very good with large portions and well cooked. I especially loved the home cooked chips which came with the scampi. Drinks were reasonably priced as was the food. After dinner we sat out in the lovely beer garden with more drinks until the temperature dropped. Breakfast the following morning was excellent, with a continental selection and a huge cooked breakfast, Staff were all very friendly throughout our stay and we felt our dog was welcome. All in all, an excellent first visit and I would not hesitate to return if we travel this way in the future.

Me and my wife recently spent the night here, and we weren't too impressed if im being honest. We paid £100 for a room for one night (Friday), and the rooms were as basic, and knocked about as you're going to get. When we walked in the room my wife's first words were "please tell me you didn't pay more than £50 for this room" unfortunately we did, it was double that. The room looked like it hadn't been refurbished in a very long time. The room itself was clean, but that's about the only bit of praise I could give. You could stay at a premier inn for half that price, and the rooms are twice as good. The bar and the restaurant area are nice. The staff are polite and friendly too. The drinks at the bar are city centre prices which I found bizarre, with the hotel itself being a good 10 minute drive to the city centre. I know this, because we took a taxi there and back in the evening. I couldn't comment on the food, as we never ate here. Overall our experience wasn't bad, just not good enough for the money that we paid.

Had lunch here on Sunday, my god, staff... ridiculous, someone needs to teach this staff, manners, how to take orders correctly, you do not ask a customer to pass a plate of food to their wife, so they don't have to walk round a table to serve that customer correctly. Order a meal & ask for a condiment on ordering, then have to ask another staff member who served the order for it again, for goodness sake, she wrote our order down. Staff slouching around the bar, blond girl in the attached picture, telling a story & actually making puking noises...while customers were eating, then customers in hearing distance, looking at each other in disgust. She couldn't keep her fingers out of her mouth, so much for hygiene training. Tried to get attention from them to order pudding, waste of time, managed to wave down a staff member that was passing to process our order. This is not a truck stop....it's classed as a restaurant. A member of staff actually yawned in the face of another customer while taking his payment, when he passed my husband & me he just shook his head. Please, please please....talk to your female staff....ask them NOT, to use their fingers, fingers they are using to serve food, to remove their knickers from up their bums, Wedgies!!! Please. For goodness sake. Isn't worrying about COVID enough, that we have to put up with that. Won't be back until standards & hygiene, have been improved. Training, training, training.
