Hot room even with air con and noisy with window open. below par breakfast with two different music backgrounds colliding in the background Tired feel, friendly service. Comfortable bed. Hairdryer didn’t work. Just felt below standard and wouldn’t return.

Enjoyable one night stay in Durham. Returning to the Marriott Hotel we were upgraded to a superior spacious room with a river view. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was an excellent buffet service. The weather was good and it is amazing to see lots of restaurants and bars open in the streets all full. Really a holiday atmosphere. Friendly people in the streets when walking around. Had a drink at the Dun Cow pub sitting on. Bench outside in the sunshine.

Friendly staff, spacious public areas and well appointed bedrooms make this an enjoyable place to visit if you are looking for a more traditional hotel. Plenty of on site parking (paid) is a benefit. I would suggest booking a river view room or one of the character rooms in the original part of the hotel. Good breakfast.

I completed a lot of research before an 8 night holiday throughout the UK. This Marriott was clean, with kind and efficient staff with large rooms and easy walk to all the beautiful sites in Durham. We had a mid of AirBNBs and hotels and this room was one of the best between Hilton brand and Marriott throughout our stay. Breakfast was also the best. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good hotel.

Stayed here last weekend, lovely old hotel which is very well located for visiting Durham. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, but I couldn't get over the fact that they didn't have a single bar of soap in the whole of the hotel, which I found really strange for such a large hotel chain. Never the less we had a fabulous weekend and Durham is certainly a beautiful city and I would definitely visit again.

The receptionist was helpful when we arrived, especially with advice about parking. We paid more for a riverside view, and the room was fine. Don’t be misled by the 'riverside view' bit - yes it's a nice view of the river, with a busy road on the opposite bank - not a problem though. The bar could do with an upgrade, it was all a bit functional. Breakfast was OK - we went down at a busy time so it was a bit manic. Overall, good choice if you want to be near the city and the cathedral.

We stayed for only one night but the room was very good. Very large with a massive bed. Very comfortable overlooking the river. Bathroom good. Great shower lovely large clean towels. The breakfast staff in the morning were really nice and very helpful. The selection of hot and cold food was very good and was kept topped up. £11.00 to park we thought was expensive after paying £145 for the room and breakfast but it is central and won’t put us off staying again.

Having spent a couple of nights previously in a shoddy nearby hotel, it was an absolute joy to stay at the Marriott. Lovely, spacious room with great bedding and a nice outlook. Given the central location, it was surprisingly quiet so I slept well. All the things you would expect such as toiletries and beverage making. Two things to be aware of. Firstly, the swimming pool is no more. I don't know if this is temporary or permanent. Secondly, since covid it seems many hotels no longer provide daily servicing of rooms. If you want bin emptied, more teas, coffees etc, you have to ask. Other than that, a lovely comfortable stay.

We stayed here for 7 nights as part of a package holiday with half board. The WiFi was good throughout. The room we had was decently equipped, but had no easy chair as it didn’t seem big enough to take one. The air-conditioning worked well, except on the hottest day of the year when it stopped cooling. The service in the bar and restaurant was another matter. They seemed short of staff and some of them seemed new, un-trained and unsupervised. There was a feel of lack of organisation in the bar and the restaurant. Some of the beers and wines weren’t available and some staff had difficulty operating the till in the bar, knowing how to do some drinks and even knowing how to open a bottle of wine. There were some long waits as there weren’t the staff available at key times. One wait was of almost 20 minutes trying to get drinks to go with our evening meal. Service in the restaurant was only a little better. The breakfast selection was only average given the standard of the hotel and the marmalade ran out half-way through our week. The pre-ordered evening meals often took a long time to arrive. The record was over 45 minutes for the starters. One person didn’t get her main course at all until she complained. With another meal, the extra vegetables for the table didn’t come until we complained. Delivery of tea and coffee at the end of the meal didn’t seem well organised, with milk and sugar having to be specifically requested rather than there already on the table.
