Travellers' Choice
The Trinity Neighborhood. Newcomers, friends or just weary travelers step onto the set of history at Hotel Indigo® Durham, whilst you explore our ‘perfect little city’. Our boutique hotel is moments from the historic Durham City Centre; perfectly located for an adventure. With the magnificent university, castle and world renowned Durham Cathedral just a short stroll from our doors, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The stage for our Hotel Indigo is the former Durham University building ‘Old Shire Hall’, where you’ll find Victorian façade spills out into our ancient and romantic neighborhood laden with historic pubs, cozy cafes and spellbinding churches, or slip away into the surrounding countryside and sleepy villages. Throughout you will spot little nods to our UNESCO World Heritage. Our cocktail lounge, meeting room and Marco Pierre White restaurant all retain their Victorian heritage whilst embracing contemporary popular culture, a nod to the city’s ancient history and bright future.

First time in Durham. The indigo hotel was fabulous. Attention to detail was amazing. The room was stunning. Breakfast was gorgeous. Lots of choice.. all staff were professional and friendly. Great location..not easy to park at the hotel as the carpark is small.. We dined in the Marco pierre white restaurant for our evening meal which was amazing and great value for money.

Just completed my fourth stay in the past 12 months at the Indigo Durham and as always it was a pleasure from start to finish. The staff are all fantastic but I want to give a particularly big thank you to Faye on the front desk who went above and beyond in helping fix a problem created by a severely delayed journey.

Well placed close to the city centre. Superb building, very well presented and for which IHG should be commended for preserving this Shire Hall and architectural gem. the hotel is on various levels and has a maze of corridors, with lifts accessed through different sides! Our room was top floor, and whilst not the biggest was big enough and had a king bed. Restaurant in the circular council chamber is different and the Marco Pierre White steak bar meets the standard. Breakfast in the same room was freshly cooked to order and also of excellent standard. The young staff team, worked hard and provided a good standard of service.

This is the second time we have stopped here this year. The building remains architecturally pretty stunning inside. Our room was excellent - the rainfall shower was great. Breakfast remains very good. We managed to park literally right outside the front steps of the hotel again and paid just over £10 for 43 hours parking over two days due to it being free on the street outside between 2pm and 8am. Jess on reception deserves a mention - such a genuinely warm welcome.

The Hotel was faultless, very clean, exceptional facilities and the staff courteous, polite and informative. My only negative with this Hotel is the Parking. It does not own the car park next to the Hotel. We had to pay £16 for 24hrs yet did not stay the full 24hrs.

Very nice looking hotel inside and out. High ornate ceilings even in room. Stayed in room 205 for 2 nights. Great rainwater style shower and comfy bed. Attention to maintenance could be better within the room. Round bathroom light not illuminating dent in bathroom bin and electric towel rail switch broken. A little mould in sealant behind basin and side of shower.. whilst these are minor things and the room was very nice these need addressing as it’s a lovely hotel

Room Tip: Don’t bother paying £16 a day to park in hotel as local meters free after 2 pm and all day...

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from 28/08/2022. It was a fantastic stay and all the staff, the room and the restaurant were wonderful. We had the B&B/Dinner option. The restaurant and staff were brilliant and all the food was wonderful. Ben at reception was amazing with his knowledge of where to go and how to get there. Special mention to Bruno in the dining room. We would like to than all the people at the hotel for making our stay so joyous. Will be back.

A return visit to this lovely hotel. The outside building is impressive and has been nicely converted to a hotel. Lovely stained glass windows and impressive open spaces. Check in faultless and are room was available early which is always a plus. Staff friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms a good size, spotlessly clean and a good shower. Breakfast good quality and generous. Absolutely nothing not to like.

The staff were welcoming, the hotel itself was spotless, the room was excellent. The Rotunda Bar was relaxing. Our only gripe about Room 220 was the service doors being banged a lot, caused by the morning staff from around 8am onwards. I mentioned it to the staff at checkout and was informed it was a common issue in that area of the hotel. So they are aware of it, nothing done about it unfortunately. How about some draught strip around the door frame? The foam stuff, it will reduce the noise considerably. Time will tell. Apart from that, a pleasant stay.
