Chose this over the Premier Inn because I wanted room service to be available. However, if you don’t use a credit card you have to then go down to the reception to pay! You have to be kidding. I got total inflexibility from the manager. Two points - first, how many people really don’t settle up? Really? Second - you can charge a debit card with card not present just the same way as a credit card (I work in this space, so I do know what I’m talking about). The parking charges are outrageous. Watch out for these and see if you can negotiate a rate that includes them. I would not stay here again just for this reason as I feel cheated by this sort of thing. Finally - the hotel is beginning to look a little tired around the edges…e.g. the paintwork could do with a freshen, Next time I will go for the Indigo (which was pretty close to the same price when you add in the parking costs) or the Premier Inn if I’m looking for something cost effective. Not terrible, but definitely not good value for money (my room was over £200/night without the car park) and they need to remember it’s about service and flexibility.

Dear Nick R, Thank you for your valued feedback regarding your stay. For security of both our guests and the hotel we cannot allow charges to account without a pre authorisation of a card which should have been explained during our check in process, I'm sorry if this was not made clear at the time. We would not charge a card without first obtaining the authorisation from our guest as you may suggest. Parking is not a hidden charge and further information on parking arrangements is available in advance of arrival should this be required, we are aware that our pricing is in line with other hotels in the city. Hopefully on a future visit to Durham you'll find better value in the rate available as this does vary through the year. Thanks again for your valued feedback. Kind Regards, Stuart

Hotel's Favourite
My wife and I fancied a couple of days stay in Durham to see the sights. Booked the Radisson because it was so central. On arrival the receptionist (Martine) could not have been more pleasant and really got our stay off to the best possible start. The location is great as you can easily walk to the cathedral and all the other items of interest. The room was lovely, dinner both nights in the hotel was excellent and overall I can not think of anything to complain about.

Very nice hotel, spacious areas with nice ambience and in a great location I had bedroom that overlooked the river but I would be pay more to do so again as the road is noisy and so are the ducks !! The view of the castle was nice though Breakfast was superb although a bit manic as it was a buffet

The location of the hotel was good. Parking charges were expensive. We would there for several days and housekeeping was patchy – products not replaced, water not replaced, bath mat not replaced on occasions. Reception staff were efficient but not very welcoming or helpful. Breakfast was chaotic. I suspect they had insufficient staff. Cooking an omelette should not be that difficult but was overcooked and dry on both occasions I had them. My wife's porridge was excellent. I felt that with better staff training generally the hotel would up its game.

Nice clean and friendly hotel. We received a complimentary upgrade to a superior room which also entitled us to free car parking saving us £14 which was very welcoming. Our room was nice and clean with a very large comfy bed. The breakfast was great lovely an tasty food with a great choice for all preferences especially ours which is full English served as a buffet which we prefer. The staff were always very polite and made us feel very welcome. There are a few signs where maybe it’s nearly time to start some refurbishment but this didn’t spoil our experience.

My son & I stayed here to visit Durham University for an open day. The hotel was really easy to find, a great location (close to some bars & restaurants plus only a few mins walk from the centre of Durham) with some beautiful views. The hotel itself is inviting, the staff so friendly and helpful (huge shoutout to Martine on Reception who was amazing and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met). The beds were very comfy - we got a great nights sleep. The air conditioning was working, but not brilliantly. I wouldn’t have wanted to be in there on a very hot day/night! If you’re visiting the university, I would recommend it as a hotel close enough and you can leave your car parked there!
