We arrived in Durham late afternoon after driving for hours from the Lakes district via Hadrian's wall in Hexham. We were greeted by the host William. After check-in we asked William for directions to Durham Cathedral. Unfortunately we got lost and couldn't get there. We got back to the B&B very tired and disappointed as we only had the date of arrival to visit the Cathedral. We were tired and told William that we will just rest up for our trip up north the next day. William wouldn't hear of it and offered to drive us to the Cathedral and even wait for us while we toured the Cathedral. We were embarrassed and did not want to trouble him but he insisted and took us in his car, acting as a tour guide he drove past many attractions and got us to the Cathedral. Once I knew the way, I asked if we could return to the B&B so I could drive us in our own car to the Cathedral and spend the evening around there. He recommended a few restaurants as we drove past them and took us back. We managed to drive back and attend evening song and then spent a lovely evening walking around. If it weren't for William, we would have just spent the evening in our room feeling sorry for our selves. Our room was at the top floor. As I was parking the car, my wife took a small suitcase in. An elderly woman insisted on carrying the bag upstairs and no matter how many times my wife tried, she insisted on taking it up. Breakfast was great. Although only street parking is available, William assured us that the area was safe and he was right. This is a family run B&B and William and his family could not be more hospitable, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Moor End Guest House.…
My family and I stayed here over three nights as we were attending our sons graduation. William the owner was so helpful from the day of booking our rooms and all through our stay nothing was to much trouble , William even drove us into Durham (two trips were need as there were six of us) for the graduation in the cathedral we had to be there for 7am and he made sure we all had breakfast at 6:15am. A warm welcome every morning from William and his wonderful family . When visiting Durham again we will certainly be returning to this little gem.
Nice place, tidy rooms and great service. William extremely helpful in many ways. Fixed an extra bed for our room and got up very early to serve us breakfast before regular hours. Great experience and made our stay very pleasant
Great facilities and exceptional service from the owners. It was my first time in England and felt at home. Great breakfast in the mornings and always served on time. I really recommend it to anyone planning to visit Durham.
We stayed here last night 30/4/22, we had a warm welcome and the room was clean. Facilities are good and there is a pack with information which was a big help. Breakfast was delicious and we were treated like royalty! Would definitely stay here again. Lovely owners
I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October. Nothing was too much trouble for Martin, the breakfast was cooked to order, a good strong pot of tea, and probably as much cereal as you could eat. My room faced the main road but I wasn't disturbed by any traffic noise. The room was very comfortable, every little detail has been thought of, down to a pot containing cleaning items for your used cups if you were staying a while. Should I ever need to find accommodation in Durham again ( I normally stay with friends) I really do hope that Martin and Moor End Guest House have a vacancy. Calling Martin direct also saved me a fair few pennies which was an added bonus. I had a wonderful stay and I wish Martin continued success which is the least he deserves. Thank you.
A nice stay for a couple of nights. On the main road but no real noise during the night. A great breakfast cooked to order as you like it. Only issue I had was as a tall gentleman I couldn't stand to use the loo because if the sloping ceiling and loo seat didn't stay up on its own. Not really a major issue though.
Martin the owner was friendly and obliging the bed and breakfast is ideally placed with frequent buses into Durham. The place is really clean and well equipped, felt as if nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was great. Asked if we could leave car early when we arrived and Martin was happy for us to check in early. Lovely meals at pub next door. Quiet location. Good city stay beds very comfortable
I had a wonderful time staying at the Moor End Guest House. The room was beautifully laid out, with plenty of good complimentary supplies and faultless wifi connectivity. The owner, Martin, deserves particular praise for being wonderfully accommodating and providing a lovely breakfast every morning. I would recommend this establishment to anyone staying in the Durham area.
Well decorated and clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is very good with a wide selection of food and attentive service from the proprietor. The service of Martin is exceptional and needs to be highlighted - he goes above and beyond. One example - we left our phone charger behind, and he posted it back to us! That doesn’t happen very often. All in all, a great B&B in Durham, with superb service.
