We are an elegant, traditional, independent family run hotel. Built in 1897 we have retained the Victorian character of the hotel, and the hotel is peppered with interesting antiques and curios alongside modern facilities such as free wifi broadband access and i-pod docking stations and DVD players in our Superior Rooms. We are a welcoming hotel with super friendly staff; ideal for families wanting a stay away from the town centre. We are set in private gardens and we beleive in valuing traditional service and the elegance of a bygone era, while offering the best in modern features. We represent an independent alternative to the cloned looks of a chain hotel by offering something unique and personal. Our restaurant is open Monday to Saturday and offers meals from £8.95 - including dishes such as local herdwick lamb and fell bred steak. Parking is on site, private and free of charge.

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting the theatre. The room was clean, tidy but basic (even though we had a superior room). Breakfast was amazing - it sets you up for the day! The staff were friendly and helpful.

Dear Alison, Thank you for your review! It would be most helpful if you could provide us with further information on why you feel the room was 'basic' - we provide a double walk in shower, robes on request, superior toiletries and tea and coffee making (including hot chocolate and freshly make chocolate chip cookies), all of the furniture is new and solid wood and we provide a wall mounted TV, Roberts Digital Radio and I-pod docking station. In addition to the standard hair-dryer, iron and ironing board etc. Any further suggestions you could make to highlight why you felt the room was basic would be most appreciated - if you could also clarify which room it was that would be helpful - the annex rooms are more streamlined and modern than say a main building superior room, which may have bath and shower and also Victorian features. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile with quality, personal touches and always seek to improve. J Gardner-Barlow - General Manager.
