Guests frequently commend the hotel for its spotless cleanliness and warm atmosphere, accented by thoughtful touches like complimentary gin and tonics. While the rooms earn praise for comfort and amenities, some guests note issues with temperature and size. Service at the hotel is consistently celebrated for its attentiveness and professionalism, although opinions on the spa are mixed. My wife and I were recently discussing a trip to the Mudeford area and after reviewing hotels and options elected for a three night stay at The Harbour Hotel, Christchurch. We were not disappointed.

We had reserved a table in The Jetty restaurant for the 1st night and the other two nights we elected for The Upper Deck restaurant. I would recommend if you are staying there to make a restaurant booking in advance as, due to their popularity they can be very busy.

The staff were all excellent and efficient without being overly solicitous. The meals were very good and the Wine we had at the Jetty - a Chilean Merlot - was found to be excellent.

The Room (A Harbour View) was well furnished and there was plenty of space in the bathroom to put ones toiletries. Within the room were Robes and Slippers, but also complimentary Gin with Tonic Water and an Ice Bucket. We were advised that at or around 17.00hrs Room Service will call and provide you with Ice for the Bucket and if you want any more Milk, Tea/Coffee that can be provided. The Room Service arrived just after 17.00hrs and the Service was as described.

The Upper Deck is where Continental Breakfast is served and the offerings were excellent. We were advised that if we wanted a Cooked Breakfast there would be an additional charge of £10 per person.

The Hotel has an indoor pool and Spa and we used the Pool which was most welcome.

Mudeford Quay is a short 10Minute walk away, and Christchurch is a short Bus Ride 15minutes from the Hotel. The Bus frequency is Hourly and Christchurch with its Priory is well worth a visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and noted that the Harbour Hotel Group have many other locations within the South & South-West of England. If they are all of the standard that we experienced at this hotel then they are well worth using for your vacation.

What a welcome! Quick and efficient but welcoming. Gorgeous room with sea view. Do sit by a window for breakfast and enjoy looking at the swan family who are a regular and rather sweet feature. Breakfast had a great choice and the service was a delight.
Relaxing, reading a book on the lawn area was quite a treat.
Lunch at the Jetty was superb. The set menu is perfect for me as I can usually manage three courses. A feast for the eyes as well as for the palate. Thank you Hannah for looking after us so well.
A missing hearing aide miraculously was handed in to reception and a much loved earing that had fallen down the basin, reported before breakfast, it was returned as we were eating our breakfast. Such service.
An hourly bus service stopping outside the hotel means that the car can be left in the car park. The open top bus was also an unexpected treat.
Staff at reception dealt with preliminary enquiries swiftly.
A well run hotel. A delightful room. Exceptional members of staff. The Jetty is a definite must with such a high standard and good value.

We recently enjoyed a 3 night stay at the Harbour Hotel. We searched a number of booking sites but ended up going through the hotel site directly as it was the same price or cheaper. Very easy to use and we heard back immediately, confirming our reservation and offering some helpful information. We had a few questions prior to our stay and communication was always fast and helpful. We stayed in an annexe room (formerly called a “cottage room”), which was nicely appointed, spacious and comfortable. The complimentary G&Ts in the room were an unexpected surprise! We used the gym, pool and hot-tub and found them perfect for a short stay. The pool/hot tub can occasionally be busy but we had no difficulty finding a quiet time.

The hotel setting, overlooking the harbour, is wonderful and its location is perfect for accessing the area. We took the Mudeford ferry over to the Mudeford sand bank beach, walked over Hengistbury Head and caught the little road train back to the jetty. We then took another ferry into Christchurch to explore the town and the wonderful priory. A quick bus ride back to the hotel completed a great day. We also drove to Kingston Lacey and Wimborne, two other highly-recommended places to visit while in the area.

The hotel has two restaurants. We enjoyed excellent breakfasts in the Upper Deck, and evening meals in The Jetty, situated at the water's edge overlooking the harbour. Excellent choice and quality of food. Most notable about our stay were the hotel staff. Without exception they were delightfully kind and pleasant, always welcoming and ensuring our stay was going well. A special mention to Dave at concierge (known for his trumpet badge!). Always smiling and ready to offer advice and suggestions; his ideas for our day trips were perfect!

Overall a quite excellent experience and a hotel we would certainly return to.

The hotel on the face of it looks lovely, and probably a nice place to visit as a couple. If however you have a child, my advice is don’t bother as it’s not set up for children - you will be treated like it’s an inconvenience here.

We booked the hotel as it had a nice swimming pool we could go to when we checked in. We had dinner booked at 17.30 (as you would with a child) but were then told there were extremely limited times you can go onto the pool with a child (16.00 - 17.30 which I was told was actually extended hours for half term)

I raised this with management and there was just a flippant response that it was emailed on the booking confirmation the time. It indeed was after checking the small print on the confirmation, however at no point was this mentioned at the point of booking (I’ve rechecked the booking process) and it’s a bit late on a non refundable booking to issue restrictions at this stage of the process.

The hotel needs to be upfront of this as it’s a big part of any hotel booking that you can use the facilities you pay for. The management simply said ‘it’s a spa hotel and all others were like that’. From my personal experience having visited much nicer spa hotels than this that is simply untrue - children have been welcomed rather than being made to feel an inconvenience.

Aside from this there is insufficient parking - we parked and by the time I went down to unpack the car we found we would be unable to get our car out because they actively block you in because there is a lack of parking spaces. If you want to leave, you need to speak to reception to get them to move another car and then you will face a trauma parking when you return.

There were some nice touches in the hotel such as a complementary gin and tonic on the room, but sadly it doesn’t really make up for the fact the hotel wants to be an adults only hotel but allows families to book. My belief is the only reason they allow children is because they have weddings on which children will obviously attend with the guests.

We are very disappointed to receive a 1 star review, and of course are very sorry anyone was made to feel like this. The review is written on the 29th October and the guests arrived on this day and checked out the following day. They were very unhappy upon check in that childrens swim times were limited to 4pm - 5:30pm (check in at 3pm). Then again children can swim 8am - 9:30am in the morning (check out 11am). We have childrens swim times not just to give adults child free times but also so children can swim in a designated time to allow them to be free in the pool and not crowded with adults. I have tried communicating to the guests to try and resolve but unfortunately i am not getting a response. We always want to ensure all our guests are happy, we have enjoyed many families experiencing our hotel over the half term period and always welcome them as much as any other guests. I would hope given this review was written before even 50% of their stay was completed there would be reflection on the score. I hope a response will come to my attempted correspondence to the guests. AJ Aitken aj@thejetty.co.uk

Our experience was overall not great. We’d booked this as a family trip for my Dad’s 70th, we were 5 adults and one toddler. We specifically booked this hotel as my parents went to visit it and were told by the manager that my nephew (almost 2) would be able to use the pool without any restrictions, this was checked several times when we booked six months ago, when we went to go swimming the spa staff wouldn’t let my sister and nephew in and had a very poor attitude. This really spoilt our only full day at the hotel and upset all of us. (We mentioned several times during check in that we had a child with us - why were the ‘family swim times’ not highlighted then?)

When we booked we got an evening meal included received a confirmation email showing we could have the three course set menu or £35pp towards the A la carte, reception told us this wasn’t available on Fridays or Saturdays but when we spoke to them it was resolved. The meal was below what I would expect, two of the party had steaks which were quite gristly and one had chicken tikka curry, it was more like a butter chicken, it had one nicely seasoned chicken skewer on top and then two thick slices of chicken with barely any flavour underneath.

Although the hotel says it welcomes children it was clear some of the other guests didn’t, I wouldn’t recommend taking young children here.

The rooms were extremely hot and we couldn’t get one of them to cool down (we asked for help from reception) which caused broken sleep.

The cleanliness was also lacking in some areas - see photos.

Good points:
- Lovely views
- Staff in dining room are all friendly and helpful.
- Good car parking system (you can double park your car and reception will later move it for you so you don’t have to try and find a space each time).
- Large comfortable beds.

We were looking for a nice place to spend couple of nights and recharge our batteries. Harbour Christchurch delivered. 5-star check in / out experience by Olivia. Arrival lunch at The Jetty was amazing, we couldn’t believe the location and were so impressed by the quality of the food and the charming team. Very reassuring to see Chef Alex so visible making sure everyone was having a good meal. The room was nice, a bit claustrophobic but we paid for the smaller room so cannot really complain about it. Quality bathroom amenities and confortable bed. The room did get quite hot in February so I don’t think is a good idea to stay over the summer as the hotel doesn’t have AC. Nice provision of gin but we didn’t use it, as we didn’t know how to get ice and lime. The spa is quite dated and in need of a full refurbishment, it was reassuring to find out it will happen in autumn and for sure it will make a massive difference, in the meantime do manage your expectations as the place is tired. The spa staff isn’t very friendly and avoid eye contact, even I was in crutches they couldn’t care less. It made me wonder if the spa was managed by a different company as the staff in the rest of the hotel was very charismatic and guest focused. Breakfast at Upper Deck was very good, the Continental selection may appear limited but the a la carte selection is a real treat. The Spanish manager remembered our name on the second day and allocated our usual table which was a nice touch. In the evening, Upper Deck transforms itself into a destination bar & restaurant with beautiful ambience and well curated cocktails by a very experienced bartender (guy with tattoos). We ate outside the hotel on both nights and regretted we didn’t have dinner in house as both restaurants are very relevant in terms of offering and quality oriented. It was evident they had a big following of local residents which is a good sign. The hotel location is convenient in front of the harbour but away from the High Street, a taxi is only £9 each way so not really an issue.

Thank you so much for the detailed review we are so pleased you enjoyed the majority of your stay it was particularly rewarding to read your comments about breakfast and the manager. We will take on board all your comments, please note different rooms seem to retain heat more than others and we still have a large number of guests who find it quite cold. Its easier in the summer with no heating on to get it right for everyone.

Stayed this weekend with family for a 70th birthday and my dad wanted his grandson there (almost 2 years old). Checked in and room had things not child friendly in (this is quickly rectified so no problem). First meal seated in the middle of the restaurant, filthy looks give from staff throughout as tired toddler not wanting to cooperate. Food was overpriced and average at best. Second day - staff at breakfast were lovely. When booking in we were told my son would be welcome at anytime in the pool, so got him and myself all ready and headed to the pool (10:30am) only for staff to stop me and say that family swimming was only between 8-9am!! (Ridiculous). Complaint made and told that was the only swimming time available for “families”. Back to the room disappointed. The room its self is quite small and so very hot fans are provided but even so, we were so hot every night and it made us feel unwell. My son wore just a nappy in the end as he was so hot and uncomfortable, staff offered to turn the radiators down which we had already done so not help there. The outside area was pretty with a nice view but there was a sign saying no under 16s allowed but to be honest we ignored this as my son just wanted a walk around. The car park is incredibly small for the size of the hotel so difficult to get parked if you want to leave at any point. Last meal we decided to have the light bites (the crab and prawn sandwich was lovely) and ordered my son a meal from the kids menu and the cheese burger doesn’t come with any veg so I asked for some peas (as it is on every other kids meal) and the waiter said he’d have to check with the chef, I’m sorry but in this hotel I wouldn’t expect to have to beg for some garden peas for my child. This was the straw that broke the camels back. This hotel is not child friendly at all and it made the weekend very disappointing for my dad who wanted to enjoy his 70th birthday with his family. I will not be returning and I would advise others with children not to waste their money (and a lot of it)!

First and foremost our sincere apologies you have felt like this, we actually value all ages at Christchurch Harbour Hotel. From dressing up the beds, adding 'Harbour branded coloring books' and an extensive Childrens menu. I am so sorry you missed all the details on Childrens swim times on your confirmation letter. We ensure 2 designated Childrens swim times a day (morning and early evening) this is as much for others as it is for the children and usually works well, but our apologies for this and we will review our communication. I am very sorry you found the rooms warm, we don't have any radiators on apart from towel rails at the moment so my apologies you found the rooms so warm. I am pleased you enjoyed the outside area, I can assure you that the sign you saw was reference to our quiet area in the spa hideaway outside not the general outside area. With regards to the dinner we will always allow people to swap out elements and of course we will substitute peas, the asking the chef was if we had peas not if we can. We will ensure we review this internally as we do not want our guests feeling this way and we will ensure we learn from it. I would really like to speak to you in person and try and entice you back to the hotel as I feel your stay is far from the norm at Christchurch Harbour Hotel and I am confident we can make it better next time. An excellent experience! We stayed for two nights and loved it. The location is a seaside delight and our room was really comfortable with the usual carafe of gin plus tonics being much appreciated. The gym and spa, while small, are very well appointed and equipped. Our meals in the Upper Deck were delicious. As one with a medically-necessary gluten free diet, it was lovely to find so much choice was available. The Head Waiter, Phil, looked after us extremely well - nothing was too much trouble. We shall return ….

We visited the Harbour Hotel for a Saturday night after a very positive recommendation from a friend and it turned out to be every bit as as good, as we had been told.

We arrived at lunchtime and were quickly checked in to a very pleasantly decorated room with a king-size bed and a sea view. The room had all the expected amenities in terms of a safe, mini bar, iron, ironing board, hairdryer etc as well as complimentary gin & tonic, for which lemon slices and ice were delivered to the room.

And as we discovered later, the bed was very comfy

Throughout the hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful and there were a lot of them, so the service was prompt and good.

The location of the hotel with its view over Christchurch bay was great and when we there the sun shone so it was very pleasant to sit on the deck with the sun glistening on the lapping waters.

We ate dinner in the Upper Deck and were impressed with the fish dishes we had, both of which were on the specials menu, as well as the wine. Service again, was brisk as it was at the bar to which we later retired for a while after finishing dinner.

The next day at breakfast the food was again good and the service, efficient and friendly.

Our original plan had been to have a swim in the indoor 15m pool before breakfast on the Sunday, but the intent was trumped by the cosiness of the bed, so the dip will be left until the next time

We agreed that we'd definitely return, next time for more than one night so that we can try the other restaurant -the Jetty- and hopefully find time for that swim...

If you want value for money this is it. Book on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast rate and the stress of spending will go out of the window. The breakfast is now so good that I think it’d be hard to beat. They use expensive Sausages, Bacon and eggs. It’s obvious because the sausages are tough to cut and so tasty, the bacon is massive and tasty and the eggs actually taste of something. You get £35 each on a couples rate for dinner and this is more than enough for a starter and a main. The staff are phenomenal and a credit to the company. They genuinely care and if something is not right they will fix it, whether it’s your room or your meal. The spa has recently been tidied with new covers on the lounging areas and it’s a really relaxing atmosphere. A special shout out to the Maintenance Team because without them the hotel wouldn’t run smoothly. All in all a fantastic hotel, fantastic staff and a fantastic experience. Well worth your hard earned money.

What is a good room to book? Thanks in advance

All the rooms are tastefully furnished and decorated. There was a wedding on so we had a non sea view room but it wasn't an issue. The spa gets very busy and I found the pools quite cold. I couldn't fault the staff though. If you want to eat off piste the lobster Pot is a ten minute walk away and great value.

Can you tell me what the parking is like at the hotel and are there any disabled parking places?

Parking is limited, though each time we’ve visited the hotel, we haven’t had a problem. I think I saw disabled parking bays - reception have always been very helpful in our experience. Probably worth ringing them to discuss.
