My partner was running the Great North Run and obviously getting a hotel in Newcastle is not easy or cheap. So we ended up here and thank goodness we did. The villa is in a lovely area - a ten minute walk uphill to a great main street - and the venue itself is superb. Clean, cool an with a frendly welcome. My parents were down - they stayed elsewhere on the Saturday - and came over for dinner which was excellent. The menu was a bit different and delicous. Top marks. Breakfast on both mornings was superb. Lots of fruit, cereal, tea and coffee, plus perfect poached eggs. Now here is the important thing. My folk were due to drive up to Scotland on the Sunday after the race. But because of the heavy rain and a two hour wait on a bus, they decided staying put was fo the best. We phone the hotel and despite there having been a bit of a disaster in the kitchen that day, and the last thing they needed was more guests, they found them a bed. Really classy. Our stay cost a little over £100 a night including that superb breakfast. The bed was fantastic, room spotless and a great shower. I lived in Newcastle foe three years so know that fantastic city well. Sure, staying in the centre can be fun and easy, but I cannot recomment this place enough. There are enough buses going into town and Gateshead metro is a coupe of minutes drive or a short taxi ride. I cannot recommend Eslington Villa highly enough.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here. I loved the hotel – very comfortable room – and the grounds are lovely (a perfect place to read a book on a sunny afternoon). A special shout-out to two members of staff in particular who were excellent. Sorry I don't know either of your names – but thank you to the lady with the long blond straight hair and the lovely freckles, who was very helpful and welcoming, and the dark-haired gentleman who works in the bar/kitchen/restaurant who was also excellent. The food was delicious, but if you're a vegetarian don't expect to be able to have a choice at dinner. There didn't seem to be any vegan options. The service was very good and my friends enjoyed their meals. There is a train line running near the bottom of the grounds, but the noise is not particularly intrusive. Some of the bedrooms have a lovely view overlooking the grounds; my room was at the side of the hotel which meant I didn't get the view, but it stayed nice and cool on a very hot week, not having been in direct sunshine all day. The beautiful Saltwell Park is within very easy walking distance, and the Angel of the North is also walkable from the hotel (though it isn't a particularly nice walk as it is along busy A roads), but there are frequent buses available (once you've climbed the steep hill to Durham Road). I would definitely recommend Eslington Villa and I was very comfortable staying there as a solo traveller. I'm so glad I chose this hotel, as opposed to staying in a larger hotel in Newcastle city centre. At Eslington Villa the rooms are all named after trees – so much nicer than just having a number! And the excellent staff and service really made my stay.

Stayed overnight for our wedding anniversary. The elegant bedroom overlooked the extensive gardens - had a beautiful bathroom with a large wet room. We had a warm welcome with half a bottle of champagne. The menu was varied and the food excellent. The service was as ever professional but friendly as we expect from Thierry and Tony. We will be back.

Wonderful as always I’m very much at home In this hotel. Ideally located for visiting Low Fell and the surrounding area. Plenty of car parking although a little cramped. The staff are very friendly and take the time to speak with guests. Food is excellent but it is a busy restaurant and open to the public. Booking is essential to avoid dissapointment.

Visited for a meal with another couple on Saturday evening. We are regular visitors and are never let down. This was no exception. As always, greeted and welcomed at the door and although it was extremely busy we were taken to seats in the lounge and drink orders taken. We were given plenty of time to relax and talk and after a while, our food order was taken . The menu is great with a good choice to suit all tastes. When our food was ready we were taken into the restaurant. All of our food was amazing - each and every course. I must recommend the steak which was a good cut and cooked to perfection. After eating we were able to go back into the lounge for more drinks and more chat. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the manager very knowledgeable when it comes to making wine choices . Definitely coming back to this gem of a restaurant.

What a lovely, cosy and quirky hotel! It is located in a bit of an unassuming area of Newcastle, however, the views from the hotel rooms are excellent. Rooms are huge, have high ceilings and tall windows - there is so much natural light coming through! Every room has a theme, and while some of it may look slightly old-fashioned, it's definitely endearing and makes you feel at home. The staff are absolutely incredible at this place - I felt so looked-after, with everyone making me feel so welcome and comfortable during the check-in process, whenever I had any requests or at breakfast and dinner. Breakfast and dinner are separate praises - excellent food, with some great British classics features on the menu that make me salivate even now. Couldn't recommend this place more!

We decided to visit as we are local and the weather was lovely. We were not made to feel welcome, told we could not have an alcoholic beverage without food despite other guests clearly having drinks without food. We then ordered food and as soon as we finished were brought the card machine without asking. The doors were then closed on us to signify we couldn't not go in to order anything further. We have been many times and always had a pleasant experience and today was extremely disappointing to say the least, we felt extremely unwelcome and rushed out despite the venue being relatively quiet and only wanting a quiet drink in the garden. This experience has put us off returning, which is disappointing as we would like to support the local business and always enjoyed our previous visits.

I recently stayed at the Eslington Villa. when I arrived I realised that, due to my error, I had booked the wrong date for my stay. This was a Saturday and seems the hotel was fully booked. However, the guy at reception (the manger?) couldn't have been more helpful- even though I was totally at fault he went out of his way to find me a room for the Saturday, much to my relief! I've stayed here before and eaten in their restaurant and this is typical of the way the staff go to the last mile to make your stay a pleasurable experience. I'll be back, hopefully on the correct date this time!..
