Came down expecting breakfast about 830. No one there, apart from the cleaner. She was lovely and did her best but there was no chef qnd no manager visible in the hotel at all. No tables set, as if they weren't expecting anyone for breakfast. We went back to room to pack up as we needed to be away quickly. Manager phoned and we requested a refund. Really disappointed that breakfast wasn't started by 9am, which seems very late. Got a cash refund for breakfast after having to explain on phone that we needed to be away.
Wouldn’t touch this place with a barge pole. They allow their facilities to be used by individuals Mark Steele and Lee Garret who are both criminals promoting conspiracy theories and anarchy. Avoid this place like the plague.
Booked in for Christmas day Lunch and overnight stay. The table was ours from 12 for the whole day with excellent lunch and courses all served as an when we wanted them dessert and cheese board were a buffet affair and all available till early evening. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere friendly an had a homely Christmas feel. Thankyou to the owners Helen an Heather and great staff, Looking forward to next year
Stayed here on Saturday night. We were told when we got there that they had a 50th Birthday party which wasnt a problem, however when the music ended at 11.30pm, we thought that it would go quiet and we could then get some sleep This was not the case as their guests were allowed to continue drinking outside, shouting, swearing, smashing glasses, until 2.30am The staff are very friendly but we wont be using again
This little gold mine is possibly one of the nicest most welcoming places I’ve stayed in my career. From the amazing home cooking, comfortable, modern, spacious rooms to the feeling of home from home with it’s amazing owners and staff. Northern hospitality is in full swing here and at a very reasonable price considering what you get. This place will stay on my radar for business and pleasure for many years to come. Highly recommended Helen and John thank you soo much (scott & Jason)
just returned from a 2 night stay with my hubby.....fantastic place well worth the money. Room was amazing and so big (room 1) spotlessly clean....couldn't fault the service from any of the staff. Breakfast was sooooo good. Definitely stopping here again such a warm welcoming place and great value for money.
Had a function in the upstairs treehouse suite and also stayed the night. The hotel room was immaculate and cosy. The buffet was very good also along with the function room upstairs. Sutherlands is a great place to hold a function, stay and eat!
Recently stopped here for 1 night and thought the place was excellent. Good big, clean, warm room, with kettle and toaster!! Fridge even on the landing for your milk, drinks. Above a pub/restaurant with some really friendly, welcoming staff and an excellent breakfast in the morning. The bar has a good choice of beers, wines etc and you are a 10 min taxi into Gateshead or 15 to Newcastle centre. Certainly recommend
The room is filthy: instead of clean bed linen (which you expect in every hotel), we were offered filthy (with large dark stains) duvets that were clearly not fresh. The blankets were smelly and had large yellow stains. The towels had holes in them and were piled in the dust on the bottom shelf of the wardrobe. The bed-side tables had some food leftovers and even somebody's underpants . The chairs had oily stains on them. There were no windows in the room, except for two small windows in the ceiling (which was very inconvenient when it rained and they were difficult to reach as well). The standard lamp was broken and had no bulb inside. Mould in the bathroom. No glass in the bathroom mirror shelf. The door handle was falling apart. While checking-in we were asked about the preferred time for breakfast. However, when we came to the restaurant at the agreed time, we had to wait for our breakfast for 40 minutes. No cups, just glasses on the table and they were filthy. The buffet has almost no choice. There were four kinds of cereal, but all of them smelled of rancid fat. No butter and cheese were available.…
Stayed here last week as it was close to the location of a meeting I had the following day. The bedroom was adequate however the noise from downstairs was terrible and my evening meal was practically inedible. I was Ill for a couple of days afterwards and after some investigation I came across this. See pictures.
