Only on the island for 1 night for work but found the Aald Harbour a perfect place to stay, very clean, breakfast awsome and Lynette was a lovely host who supplied all the information required prior to my stay, I would highly recommend.
I am going to start with a negative first, which really had an effect on my stay here. 99% of the communication I had with the host was via text message because they don’t live on the premises. I only met Lynette once on what turned out to be my last day in the B&B - I thought I had booked for 2 nights but turns out it was just the one, so cue a major panic trying to find alternative accommodation in a hurry!! While the instructions via text worked well on how to get into the property, perhaps my issue over the length of stay might have surfaced earlier had she been there when I arrived/lived in the property so we could have spoken etc. Onto the positives, the room was very nice and the bed was comfy to sleep in. The bathroom was sufficient but those who are tall might have some issues given its quite narrow and so your knees will hit the wall. The Wi-Fi worked great too, with instructions on how to get connected in the room in case you didn’t see the info on the noticeboard as you entered the premises. The highlight of my (brief) stay was the breakfast. Plenty of options for everything and a substantial cooked breakfast cooked to order. It was very filling, so much so that it really did set you up for the day and I didn't need to have lunch! Lynette's daughter made for an excellent front of house host seeing to everyone/taking orders. Although there is free on-street parking, there isn't too many spaces (especially so given half the spaces are gone at the moment due to roadworks) and so once you found a space, you were reluctant to drive again in case you didn't get a space nearby again.…
Very comfortable, very good parking and so close to town. Good breakfast and very pleasant host. Had a fantastic dinner at The Dowry. Lerwick so interesting and had a great chat with host about Shetland. Certainly Shetland exceeded expectations. A wonderful holiday.
For value for money, this might be the best guest house I've ever stayed at. My room was bright, spacious, tastefully furnished and very comfortable. The bathroom was equally more than adequate. Breakfast was served quite early, but suited me as a birder, which meant little time was wasted in the morning. The breakfast was very generously portioned and perfectly cooked. The Proprietress was very helpful and welcoming and allowed me to use the kitchen and dining room in the evening, as lockdown meant that only take aways were possible. All in all a superb B&B.
As our flight had been cancelled and we had to travel from Inverness to Aberdeen, we arrived much, much later than intended but Lynnette bent over backwards to ensure we were well looked after. Our room was spacious with an excellent super kingsize bed, two comfortable chairs and everything was spotlessly clean. The tea tray even had two sachets of drinking chocolate. Often there is only one! Breakfast was excellent, and I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad. All food was cooked to perfection. Aald Harbour is conveniently located near the centre of town. On our morning of departure, not only did Lynnette allow us to sit in the dining room/lounge but she also provided a tray of tea, coffee and biscuits. Would not hesitate to book here if ever in Lerwick again.
