A small family owned/run hotel, the service was excellent. The manager and all staff were attentive and friendly We stayed in the Superior room for 2 nights, which had period character and a great view. The breakfast was good and we had two evening meals from the A La Carte menu, which were not only excellent quality but very reasonably priced (slightly less than average gastro pub prices). It is a small hotel, so don't expect gyms and swimming pools. We had really enjoyable stay and would recommended.

First Impressions what a lovely setting, hotel is ornate inside and maintains its period feel. Made to feel very welcome by Nigel and in current climate made to feel safe. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and clean . Evening meal was very good good selection on offer very nicely presented by staff who continued to make us feel safe and welcome.
Thank you

It fulfilled all our expectations, run by friendly people, quite a traditional and comfortable hotel with all the usual facilities. The en suite shower room was a tad cramped but completely adequate.
The dinner menu was good as was the quality / presentation of food.
One thing they happened to mention themselves, though not an issue for us may be useful for readers of the review, was that due to the listing of the building they are not allowed to make changes to the exterior to provide disabled access. Nevertheless, for functions they do have a covered marquee-type area adjacent to the side of the building that those with mobility issues may access.
The location, on the edge of Ecclefechan, was handy for the motorway ie a good overnight stop for those, like us travelling back from Northern Scotland to England.
It seemed very good value, similar price to a private B&B, but I suspect we may have got a special price when we booked through a booking website.

This is with a doubt an exceptionally good hotel, why it is not a 4* is a mystery it deserves 5*. The rooms are of a very high standard and the restaurant is Michelin star at the very least. Set beside a motorway and you can not hear a thing is testament to the effort put into the comfort of the residents.
This hotel is an absolute gem....

We stayed for 2 nights in a family room.

Unfortunately the cot we'd requested had not been set up in our room on arrival. Furthermore Nigel - the proprietor - was incredibly rude (swearing and shouting!)

If you are travelling with family and young ones I'd steer clear of this place as have never experienced such behaviour towards customers at a hotel prior.

They also managed to melt 3 of our baby bottles which was stressful and meant a drive to Dumfries to purchase more.

On the plus side- it is well located to access Lockerbie and surrounds. Breakfast service can be slow however tasty and cooked fresh to order.

We noted that children were being relied upon to assist with basic hotel tasks and this seemed to be a stressful period for the proprietor ?their father.

Very comfortable rooms with tea/ coffee and hot chocolate, rooms are serviced every day. There is a nice bar area with very welcoming staff and friendly locals. The food is delicious. This hotel is a great stop over hotel while on your way to, or travel back from the highlands.

Unlike some places that describe themselves as a country house hotel, this is the real thing. It’s fairly small, and not ostentatious, but comfortable and well maintained. The main rooms downstairs have beautiful high ceilings, and the views from the rooms aren’t bad either. The place is obviously also something of a local community destination, as it was well attended by locals having their Sunday lunches and evening meals. Service was excellent with one young man, particularly, who just couldn’t do enough to help us. Food was also very good, not in the fine dining sense, but in the good quality pub sense. The rooms were clean and well-appointed. We were in the top rooms (probably the old servants’ quarters), so a little less salubrious than maybe the the other ones were, but nevertheless spacious enough. Overall excellent value for money.

We only found about the Cressfield Hotel because chatting one afternoon we thought it would be nice to have a long weekend away. I remembered that I had been reading an article "The Best 50 lower priced hotels in Britain." I fished the Sunday Times out of the bin, there were indeed 50 hotels, and I thought it would be nice to go to the Scottish Borders where we have relations. The Cressfield Hotel was reviewed and we picked there. On arrival there was a lovely attentive and warm welcome from Nigel. Our room was about the best we ever stayed in, with comfortable seating and a comfy bed. The food there was delicious. We had breakfast there every day and three main meals. The breakfast beautifully cooked, and the evening menu very imaginative. The goats cheese starter was so delicious that I had it all three times. Other occasions I had mushroom stroganoff, the beef burger, and on Sunday I opted for a steak lunch. All beautifully cooked. Shona, who cleaned our rooms (even though we said it wasn't necessary) did a brilliant job, and even folded our PJ's. Plenty to do nearby. We were a little bit restricted because of injuries, but when we return next year we will be over these, and there are castles to visit and walks to explore. However on our first day the weather was beautiful and we just sat in the garden for hours reading. We had a lovely time, and we will be going back. Lovely and clean, everyone pleasant but not overbearing. Thoroughly recommend.

Stayed here for a couple of nights visiting family and it was simply brilliant. Stunning building in a great location just 5 minutes from the motorway so perfect links. Our room was beautifully appointed with a clever mix of traditional and contemporary touches and the room was very clean. The decor to the bar and restaurant was impeccable and the atmosphere was lovely and very friendly with locals popping in for drinks. We ate twice in the restaurant and the menu was cleverly chosen and the food was delicious.

We’ve chosen to stay here on our return Journey home because we enjoyed our evening meal and accommodation/breakfast on route to Edinburgh last week so much . Close to the motorway and a short walk from Ecclefechen. We chose this Hotel having read the previous excellent reviews.. Evening meal choices and locally sourced produce and menu choice was very good. Staff are attentive and Cressfield Hotel offers excellent value. If in this area we would totally recommend this Hotel
