Booked here to stay on the evening of 2nd of November as was travelling from scotland to england. 30 secs after booking this hotel i noticed on reservation that last check in was 11pm. I tried to contact the premises to ask about late check in but no answer. So i had to cancel straight away and change my reservation to another hotel. The pine grove hotel still charged me £65 for the room even tho i couldnt make it there and tried to amend within 30 seconds of making the reservation. Absolute robbery. Sont waste your time.
Spent one night at the hotel and while I appreciate it's been closed for a while and is family owned so they might be struggling financially the rooms are really needing work done to them. The girl at reception, same girl serving breakfast, was very pleasant and helpful, the breakfast was decent with plenty of choice and the breakfast room looked fine so no complaints there, but my the two bedrooms we had were way below the standard we were expecting - didn't think they were worth the £83 we paid for each room.
I stay all over the UK in hotels with work and it’s nice to stay in an original hotel with original wood and plaster fittings with original stained glass windows, very friendly staff ,a well maintained building

My partner and I stayed here for nights at the start of July, as it was in a good location for us to explore the lake district and northern England. First impressions were very good, looks like a grand house from outside and the receptionist was very pleasant. We were given a room on the first floor, directly above the bar. The rooms are dated, but we knew this when we booked from the photos etc. The room was reasonable clean and had basic things expected like a kettle, hairdryer etc. Few bad points. Due to COVID, we were told that during our 5 night stay, the room would not be cleaned and that if we required towels, we should leave them outside our door before 9am and they would be replaced. This didn't happen, and we had to ask twice to get clean towels. No big deal, but 5 days in the room without any cleaning was perhaps too long. My biggest complaint was the noise, especially from the bar. Surprisingly this was worse during the week than the weekend. The shouting and loud laughing went on to almost 2am on a few occasions, which was amplified with us being directly above it. My perception was a lot of the people in the bar were not staying in the hotel, but this the local for them. Also the walls are not very well sound proofed, meaning you can hear chatting from other rooms. All in all this wasn't a bad hotel, it just wasn't great. It was literally just somewhere for us to sleep and met those exceptions most of the time. Im not sure if I would stay again however, as I think for just a little bit more money you could get a lot better.…
