Once upon a time there was a drinking club at Burghley House. It was founded by The 5th Earl of Exeter in 1684 and it was called The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam. It had an eclectic bunch of members: The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound, The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag and The Earl of Denbigh was Tyger amongst other nefarious characters. They would have drunk locally brewed ales, feasted on Burghley Estate and other local produce and created total bedlam. Things have a habit of coming round and we are delighted to invite you to dine on our local produce, sup our fine ales and obviously behave very, very well!

The room was poorly lit with no dressing table to dry your hair or apply make up. The En-Suit arrangement was effectively 2 extra rooms, one containing a toilet & sink which was freezing cold and another shower cubicle & large bath. To access these rooms from your bedroom you had to cross a small landing arrangement with just a privacy curtain to protect you from the next bedroom We did look in our friends room 6 which was 100 times better for the money. We did not get our 10% discount from our insider club membership off the food & drink. The evening menu was rubbish as 20% of it was sold out at lunchtime which was very disappointing as it was only 18:00 on a Friday night. We we’re given the menu to choose from which we did, then to be told at the ordering process that the Fish & Chips had only 1 portion left. 1 Meat Pie left and no mini pasties left on the light bite starters. We then had to start the choosing process over again as 3 of our party of 4 wanted Fish & Chips. Very strange as Friday is typically throughout history been a Fish day. Staff friendly but as shown not effective having to duplicate work. Dinning area atmosphere lovely and the food we finally ordered was of a very good quality

This is a regular stop if we are traveling north from Kent. Always very welcoming and rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Very well located. The centre of Stamford is a couple of minutes walk away. Shops are excellent. Overall a very agreeable stay.

All the staff were really friendly and we enjoyed the food - though the coffee at breakfast was not too good. There’s a lovely garden at the back, where they grow vegetables and flowers in raised beds as well as having lots of seating and in the summer, an outdoor cinema and pizza oven. Our room (Ram) was huge and full of character. We stayed on a two night Winter Warmer deal, and thought it was reasonably priced.

Had a really good family meal here. Food was fantastic and the service were very friendly and got the attentiveness/efficiency just right. Very cosy restaurant with wood fire. I had monkfish curry that was aromatic and really tasty. Others in the party had Sunday roast lunch and all said the meat was exceptional.

Service was outstanding, from the moment we arrived to the morning of departure? We had a room off to the side of the pub, accessed via their “veg-garden”, but meant that there was no noise from the pub? Room was below street level which was a little weird seeing people walk past, but we soon got used to it? Room was spacious, if a little dark as no main light, but well decorated and big enough for us and our two dogs. Evening meal was great with Charlotte totally in control of a busy dining area; breakfast next day was as efficient with Melissa and the second day was equally well organised by Emily. You could not ask for three more efficient workers in a team and whoever runs the training programme should take a bow! Thanks ladies; a great stay!! Just be aware, that parking is a couple of hundred metres up the road at their sister hotel, so drop off luggage (busy road as by the the school) first and then park!!
