We have stayed in both Clematis Cottage and The Retreat. Both are very comfortable and equipped to a very high standard. The beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside make a stay here unforgettable. After a happy time with family in Clematis Cottage at Christmas 2019, we were fortunate to be able to book for 5 weeks in The Retreat this October while awaiting the progress of our house purchase. It has been a home from home!! Kaye and Richard are very special, kind and friendly hosts who go out of their way to make each stay such a pleasure.

My friend and I decided to have a break as we hadn’t seen each other for over 20 months! We booked the accommodation direct with the owners, Kaye and Richard. They were amazing from the very start, making the booking a breeze. Upon arrival Kaye greeted us and showed us around the beautiful bathroom cottage consisting of a fully fitted kitchen/diner with all the mod cons, (and left us some gorgeous fresh eggs, and milk). The lounge was spacious with three large and extremely comfortable sofas, with a huge coffee table, side tables, TV, fireplace etc. Just the spot to chill after a busy day. The cottage was sympathetically decorated to suit the beautiful building and was very clean and homely, yet enough luxury to make you feel you are stopping somewhere special. Our cottage slept six, but we only had two of the three rooms. The upper floor, double bedroom was next to the family bathroom, with a sink, toilet, bath and a handy shower attachment (bedroom 3 is a twin, upstairs too). The ground floor, double bedroom had access to the shower room (with a lovely powerful shower) with toilet and sink. The beds were also very comfy, and both rooms had plenty of space to place bags, clothes, shoes and miscellaneous. The gardens/grounds were full of interest, with a grand selection of plants, shrubs and trees, all beautifully kept. The elevated site, on a slight incline, meant you could see for miles. The cottage had a covered seated area outside (our stable door); perfect sitting out in the evenings, or a bbq. During our stay it was one the hottest periods, and we were glad of the shade during the daytime. In the evenings we sat out in the open enjoying the ambience, star gazing and listening, and watching the wildlife. The cottages are close to so many interesting places, and the perfect weather meant we could enjoy Rutland Water at its best, along with various interesting and beautiful walks, and some amazing eateries. Stamford is a few miles away if you enjoy shopping and nightlife. Our hosts were very helpful providing information on places to visit and where best to eat. We still have so much to do and see, and will definitely be going back; hopefully Spring 2022! We ended our stay with sampling Kaye & Richards amazing homemade pickles, honey and jams, and left with a clutch of jars each for family and friends. All in all this was a perfect base if you fancy an active holiday or like us a perfect chill out, catch up time, in good company and beautiful surroundings. We left with our batteries recharged, but equally sad to say goodbye to each other, our hosts and this amazing little gem in the countryside.

We spent a lovely weekend at Clematis Cottages. We had a reunion with our children and grandchildren. Our son and his wife and daughter live near us in Yorkshire and our daughter and son-in-law and children travelled up from London. We stayed in the Cottage and annex and were very comfortable. There is a very well equipped kitchen/ dining room. The large sitting room was ideal as were the comfortable bedrooms and bath and shower facilities. The milk, fresh eggs and honey were a lovely touch. The grounds, especially the huge front lawn were amazing. We played football, cricket etc. We enjoyed the chickens and bees and the little ones played hide and seek in the secret garden. Lots of outdoor seating, friendly hosts and perfect weather made for a fantastic stay.

We had a fabulous time at Clematis Cottages. The Retreat was absolutely perfect for us : spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped. We loved the beautiful grounds and the peace and tranquility of the surroundings. We are not familiar with the area and thoroughly enjoyed exploring Stamford and the locality - there is so much to do! Richard and Kaye are wonderful hosts, extremely welcoming and helpful. We are still enjoying the honey and their homemade chutney purchased before we left - we don't have much remaining! We hope to visit again in the not too distant future and highly recommend to anyone considering booking.

We were lucky to be able to hire all the cottages for a weekend to have our first party is quite some time for family and friends - sitting out in the grounds with a bbq was just we needed - great views and not problems staying up a bit later than usual ! I know some of our guests are already rebooking to come up later in the year. Can't recommend highly enough.
