If we were able to visit regularly, we would not write a review - because we would want to keep Clow Beck House secret. Yes it's that good! You get a friendly welcome from Heather and the B & B rooms are almost suites - as you get a generously sized room with a sofa and an en-suite bathroom but also what is effectively a small dressing room. The dining room - a really attractive space - is organised for 'social distancing'. There is an extensive menu for breakfast and in an evening, if nothing on the menu suits, David will rustle up alternatives. Anything that you choose is excellent and should you wish there is a good choice of beers, spirits and wines. The garden at the property is lovely - with quirky features and if you want to venture towards the river or the village there are pleasant, level walks. If you are not familiar with the area, Heather can advise on places of interest. Although at first glance the prices might seem high for a B & B; you are staying at what amounts to a very quietly situated small boutique hotel, with lovely grounds and with facilities as good, if not better, than establishments using that description. Oh - nearly forgot - the parking area is conveniently adjacent to the B & B rooms).

Clow Beck House is a top-grade hotel/B&B (5 bedrooms) in a converted manor house on the edge of a quiet village near Darlington. We stayed one night in September 2021. It was already dark when we arrived late in the evening. Heather welcomed us warmly and helped us with our bags. Our room was a good size with sofa, comfortable bed, well-lit dressing room and large bathroom. Bedrooms are off an external walkway - fine on warm days/evenings, but maybe not so good when it’s cold/raining. There had been a problem with the electricity, but there was still a full a la carte menu and no problem with bringing our choices to our room. Very good breakfast the next morning - all was just as it should be. Although we only stayed one night, we have no hesitation in recommending Clow Beck House. David and Heather's welcome and attention to guests is exceptional.

We stayed here for a night as a couple and were in a cottage. the room was very nicely finished, felt really comfortable. Heather our host was most welcoming and was amazing at finding a taxi to attend a local concert, many thanks. The acid question is would we stay again......definitely, if only for the breakfast!!!!!!

We stayed at Clowbeck House from Sunday 1 August 2021, and we can prove our stay and the fact that we paid for our stay – this review is, therefore, genuine. If you are able to answer yes to most of the following questions, then you should visit Clowbeck: 1. do you like stays where the personal interaction and time spent with the hosts/owners/staff is important? 2. do you like being in the middle of farms with not too much else around? 3. do you like staying in a cottage like environment where the bedrooms have a functional bathroom, simple elegant décor in the bedroom, not too much technology in the room, tea and coffee making facilities in the room, daily fresh luxurious towels, a daily clean (subject to Covid)? 4. do you like smaller hotels where there are very few guests? 5. do you like hotels, where due to their small size, there may not be too many families with children? 6. do you like staying somewhere where natural outdoor scenery is within easy reach (less than an hour)? 7. do you like staying somewhere where you can dine with local high quality produce, either at Clowbeck or within 30 minutes? 8. do you like peace and tranquillity? 9. would you be happy to pay almost twice of what one would pay for good budget accommodation like Premier Inn, Travel Lodge, Holiday Inn Express etc...? If you answer yes to any of the following, please do avoid Clowbeck 1. do you like stays where there is lots to do a lot of people coming and going 2. do you like stays where there is a lot to do literally on your door step 3. even accepting that all stays should have a clean functional bathroom and a good bed, are you looking for the cheapest stay. For the 2 of us, we loved staying at Clowbeck for 2 main reasons 1. the owners, David and Heather, who spent quality time with us and guided us at each step as to what we may like to visit locally (noting our interests), and looked after us and other guests very well 2. we were in a peaceful and tranquil environment. We will definitely be visiting Clowbeck again.

If you are ever down in the Darlington area and you don’t book this hotel, then you are making a massive error. One of the most enjoyable stay we have ever had in unbelievable grounds that you would actually pay for to walk around them. Great breakfast with everything you could ever ask for BUT even all that doesn’t reach the highlight of Clow Beck House, that honour falls to the owners David and Heather. The most pleasant, helpful and genuine hosts that you will ever meet. They want you to have the best stay ever and nothing is any trouble for them. Will be back soon.

Fantastic hospitality & lovely hosts Stayed here midweek with 2 other couples. The owners could not have done anymore to make us feel at home. The food was 5 Star - highly recommended; the accommodation well set out, spotlessly clean and lovely location. Would go back there in an instant. Well done guys and thank you

This was our 7th visit to Clow Beck and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Importantly, as the country emerges from Covid lockdown, David and Heather have done everything possible to ensure Clow Beck is safe. The room, garden, food and hospitality were all fabulous. Thank you !

Stayed overnight recently and once again was absolutely terrific with hosts who run the place to absolute perfection. The standards never slip in the slightest. Staying here on an overnight business trip is more like a working holiday. Comfortable, spotless, tranquil and with brilliant food.
