Nestled in a picturesque bay with stunning sea views, Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá offers a stylish and glamorous atmosphere that many find appealing. While the sea views and cleanliness of the rooms earn praise from guests, their outdated furnishings and size have not met everyone's expectations. Opinions on service are split between exceptional attention and disappointing inattentiveness. Travelers are generally charmed by the luxurious amenities, yet some feel that the value is diminished by additional charges. Despite these critiques, the hotel's location and beautiful decor are consistently celebrated.

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE! Wow, where do we even begin. The service we received from start to finish was 10/10. The staff can’t do enough for you - they book taxi’s for you and while you wait you get offered a drink. They help with all bags and luggage without you even having to ask. The staff are all so friendly and make you feel so welcome.

We stayed in the deluxe sea view room and it was perfect - the room is actually a lot bigger than it looks on the website! House keeping everyday, room is spotless every time they have been in. Air conditioning is great and very easy to use. Balcony views are stunning - overlooking the sea and pool area.

The breakfast was amazing! So many options and you can even have a glass of Cava. Again, the service here was just exceptional.

The pool area is stunning, we planned to do more around Majorca but we literally didn’t want to leave the hotel once we arrived. The private beach is beautiful but if you want to sunbathe there you’ll need to go down there quite early as there’s only a few sunbeds! There is plenty of sunbeds around the pool / sea view area - we never struggled to find a free sunbed.

The area the hotel is in is very nice but I wouldn’t say there’s loads to do within walking distance. This wasn’t an issue for us as we were happy staying around the hotel, however worth knowing! Palma is about a 20 minute taxi journey and Peurto Portals (highly recommend) is only about 10 minutes in a taxi. There’s also a tapas restaurant opposite which is really nice for lunch or dinner. But if I’m honest, once you’ve eaten at the hotel you probably will want to eat there every day/night - the food is amazing! They also had live singers a few nights we were there which made it such a lovely atmosphere.

Overall, we can’t fault anything about this hotel. We had the best holiday and felt so relaxed the whole time and that was purely to do with how amazing the hotel was.

Thank you so much! Highly recommend.

We had a lovely weeks stay here in a sea view room on the 4th floor. This hotel has tremendous views, stunning grounds, a lovely pool and beach (cove) area with comfortable sunbeds and a well positioned gym with an impressive outlook and a Clarins spa (excellent massage from Roxy!). I would definitely stay here again.

It is in a great, central location, close to Palma, Portal Nous, Bendinat, Illetes Beach. We rented a car and would highly recommend doing this so you can explore the island (Valldemosa, Deia, Andratx, port Soller etc.!!) so the hotel location is in a great spot for being on the beach but also accessible to the high ways for exploring.

Hotel food is good, the options are varied. Lunch food at Bardo and Amaro is of a high standard. The room service breakfast was average - the bread for the avocado toast was not toasted… it took about an hour to come. However, all our other meals were nice.

The service at the front desk is of a very high standard. The receptionists are happy and willing to make reservations and recommend great places. This is very 5*. Carme is fantastic and an asset to the team!

The rooms are spacious and clean with fantastic balcony views albeit a little dated. We had two single beds pushed together instead of the double bed requested…. However the worst issue about the stay was the air conditioning! The room was always SO hot, unbearable at times. The air conditioning was rubbish and needs complete updating. When outside temperatures were up to 35-40 with the humidity it is not acceptable to keep the rooms so hot!! Same goes for the gym, after 2 sessions inside, I chose not to go back because the lack of cooling air conditioning whilst running was also unbearable!

Finally, a main point of concern is the lack of pool and beach staff!! We found ourselves constantly having to go up to the bar to order drinks- there should be more than 1 pool waiter for the amount of guests. Wait times for drinks by the pool is VERY SLOW. The pool staff are lovely but at least double the amount of staff is required. You also cannot eat on your sun lounger and have to sit at the restaurant. It would be nice to be able to have some nibbles and ice cream, at least, as you tan. To sit at Amaro you must be covered up which is a little inconvenient when coming from the pool. Bardo staff also seemed very few, at peak lunch periods, tables were left un-sanitised and messy as there was not enough staff to take orders, serve and reset tables.

I loved the weekly schedule with an outdoor cinema (a highlight!!), lots of live music and yoga. It was a real treat and added something special to our stay.

Considering the cost of the stay, it would be nice to have parking included in the rate of the room. €25 a night is uncalled for.

Taking all of this into consideration. I still look forward to returning again in the near future!

This was our first visit to Mallorca and we were absolutely delighted with the Gran Meliá property!
We wanted an oceanfront property, with sea views, and somewhat centrally located from the old City of Palma, as well as access to roads for sightseeing on the island. Gran Meliá
Delivered!
We did eat at the hotel restaurant the first night we arrived and it was not as impressive as the hotel property.
Our first day we rented a Bali bed for €110. The bed was made up for us and included a fruit plate and water bottles. We had a lovely lunch of Caesar salads on the deck overlooking the pool and the sea. It was a relaxing day and the pool attendants would check to see if we needed anything.
The property is lush with green grass, and beautiful landscaping. You can wander around on the paths and there’s always a nice place to sit or lounge and enjoy the views as you meander.
There are two pools on the property, and both were refreshing. I did not venture into the sea - although I spotted a few brave folk swimming out there. The sea views are mesmerizing watching boats go by all day long.
We did cross the street to the Illetes Boulevard restaurant for some delicious food; a little further up the street is a tasty gelato store called Corazon Helado, and even further up the hill is a restaurant where you order your steak and it comes on a hot stone - Bottega Bay Steakhouse - It was amazing! There is a small grocery market down the street in the corner shopping center by the stoplight. It has fresh croissants and all sorts of drinks and snacks for a picnic/roadtrip.
We spent one day driving to Deià and Valldemossa - and had lunch at Ca’s Patro March which was lovely. On our way back we explored the cathedral and palace in Palma.
The Gran Meliá provided a beautiful location and we enjoyed our stay there very much. We will definitely return.

This hotel capitalizes on the location with open view of the sea and a beautifully landscaped beach area. The breakfast is excellent and offers every item you could imagine. The Aduana Restaurant has bad service and forgettable food.
The hotel staff is untrained, and the service is potluck. The manager seems to be missing in action and the hotel feels like it is left to running solo. There are interns standing behind the desk clerks in-training and when the clerks are gone, the interns are useless. This hotel is lacking in proper management.
If you call the front desk after 7 PM, no one answers, and you are told the calls go to the back office and it is their responsibility to answer. The elevator failed twice with people stuck mid floor before they called a mechanic. Housekeeping is also left to chance, and you may not have good cleaning depending on the staff of the day. One feels the hotel is run on automatic pilot.
Altogether, the experience depends on the day and the hotel rides on the beauty of the location.
It does not deserve 5 stars.

We booked three premium rooms as a family and spent several thousand euros in total at this hotel. That’s why we expected a “Leading Hotel of the World” to be an outstanding experience. Unfortunately, many aspects of our stay fell short of these expectations.

Upon our arrival, which took place before that of our parents and my brother and wife, we were immediately offered an upgrade for several hundred euros. That in itself was fine. However, we would have liked a small tour of the hotel complex or at least an explanation of where everything is located – this unfortunately did not happen.

When we entered the room, we noticed that the trash can was on the table – a detail that should simply not occur in a hotel of this category. Beach towels and the usual beach bag in the hotel were missing, and we had to ask for them ourselves later. The balcony glass front was also dirty, which clearly indicated that there was no thorough cleaning here. The room furnishings were rather average overall and showed some signs of wear. A welcome fruit plate with a card or something similar was probably not one of them in a 5-star hotel. It is simply about the small gestures you expect from such a hotel.

Once at the pool, we had to start looking for beach towels, as there were no staff on site. For our group we needed six loungers, but found two of them without mattresses. When we asked the staff to bring us mattresses, we were informed that none were available anymore. So we had to get a lounger with mattress from another area ourselves. Such experiences do not meet the standard of a “Leading Hotel of the World”.

Another significant safety problem was the way to the sea. The route is lined with uneven, unworked stones that make walking extremely dangerous. Especially elderly people or guests with reduced mobility could easily fall or get injured here. With a hotel of this category we would have expected a safer and better designed solution.

Positively noteworthy is the fantastic view from the room and the unique location of the hotel. These aspects are indeed extraordinary. However, the room facilities are by no means up to the standard of a 5-star hotel, nor is the service. At breakfast we had to call the staff several times to be served at all, and the attention of the service staff left much to be desired. In a corresponding price range, we would have expected significantly more.

Another detail that I personally find inappropriate is the parking fee of 25 euros per night. This is not about the money, but about the principle: Guests who spend such large amounts at the hotel should not be asked to pay in addition.

The list of such little things could be continued. It's just a shame that the hotel's management doesn't notice such things, because when you read reviews, you realize that we're not the only ones who feel the same way.

In summary: The location and breakfast are outstanding, but the service, room facilities and security measures are by no means at 5-star level. There is an urgent need for improvement here in order to meet the demands of a “Leading Hotel of the World”.

Let's start with the positives: the location by the sea is very nice. The breakfast offers a good selection with good products. Unfortunately, that was all the positives for us. Everything else is not up to 5 star hotel standards, but rather 3 stars. The room is small and uncomfortable. The toilet is difficult to access and narrow. Only the bathroom has been renovated. The rest is from the past. The room cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. The products were not refilled or were simply not there. In general, the staff does not correspond to that of an upscale hotel. This is the case in all departments and areas. The management is nowhere to be seen and is not interested in trying to solve problems in a conversation. The outdoor area with the loungers would be great in itself, but unfortunately there are too few sun loungers for the guests, even though the hotel was not fully booked. The chairs themselves are lined up very close together, so there is very little privacy. There are also some loungers without parasols, which understandably remain empty. There is enough outdoor space, but there are covered sun loungers there, which you have to pay extra for and which mostly remain empty. You cannot order food to go with the sun loungers. The food in the restaurant was not to our taste, the fish and meat were not prepared well. The service was not up to standard and not commensurate with the price. The hotel has a lot of potential due to its location by the sea, but unfortunately it needs extensive adjustments in terms of management and therefore the staff.

Beautiful Hotel and was totally blown away when I came in and said I am definitely coming back here but the more that we spent time here the more we learned how much they fleece their Customer off…they are not about Customer Care they are about money and how much they can get out of you .
When we arrived here the ambience was just so beautiful the music in the background and we had some beautiful food I had seabass & husband had us the same & it was 5 star
However,I did not enjoy the way that they look at every opportunity to get money out of you. My husband had at 1 vodka just with Diet Coke and it was 17 euro. If you sit at a table overlooking the sea you have to pay €50 sit there because they tell you “it’s a romantic table” also if you sit on a sun longe upstairs & want to lie down on the bed overlooking to see it is 150 ……. no sign up to tell you.
Yes The rooms are amazing but you get the same level of standard and quantity of the road in the Bonanza Playa hotel & pool area is also beautiful.
Breakfast is very nice here on Gran Amelia but the English very poor & my husband wanted omelette done well but no understanding….I asked them for a pot of boiling water and some milk and I waited 20 minutes for it to be brought to me, there was no sugar at any tables . The other couple asked for coffee at 10pm but told her you must go to level 2. He contacted MGT & then it was no problem.
This was my dream hotel for my 50th & said to my husband pls bring me here for this special. Birthday but when you have to think where you sit & be guest & told you m must pay a rate to sit here then I say NO WAY would I return …….
I will never take away how beautiful this hotel is and the setting the views the quality on the staff are very professional but it’s all about how much they can get out of you .
Will definitely not return afraid to sit on a seat in case he would be charged extra and their prices are just prohibitive .

The location and outdoor areas are what makes this hotel. Lovely views across the bay, great sunbeds and bali beds plus a little cove area for swimming, giving it quite a sophisticated feel.

Service is generally very good, albeit the food including breakfast is just ok and drinks and food are quite expensive, 10 Euro for a pint of lager and 17 Euro for a cocktail, with a hamburger and fries at 26 Euro.

We had a red level room on the 6th floor. Room sizes are quite good, however they are a little dated and the furnishings are generally a bit 1970's.

Whilst its not that far from Palma we did experience that taxi prices can be quite varaible. We had one journey at 14 Euros and another at 25 Euro and then a further one at 19! Waits for a taxi can be quite long and given the arrangements over there its a bit hit and miss trying to flag one down in the street. The bus system is very efficient though.

All in all an enjoyable stay and I probably would return, but I think Melia could do with giving this place a bit of a facelift.

I rarerly if ever have posted a review about a hotel. However, I do read a lot of them when traveling somewhere new. So the reader knows who is writing this, for the better part of 20+ years I have been fortunate to travel a lot and primarily in Europe.

This hotel took me by such surprise that if there were 6 green circles it would have qualified. My wife and I went for a week and it was a wonderful week. It's near impossible to describe the details that go into making an experience perfect in a short review, especially with a seasoned traveler, but needless to say this hotel did everything correct.

While in Mallorca, we also visited some of the more famous hotels and would not have exchanged any of them for where we stayed.

A few notes

1. It was important for us to have direct access to the Mediterranean. Many hotels do not offer this, often just a nice pool. All beaches are public and often very crowded during high-season.

2. We were part of the "Red Level", though I didnt study the details from what I understand this upgraded our room and our experience. Our room was about 100 square meters or about 1,000 sqaure feet. A good size for two people especially if there is jet lag involved. I can't speak to the experience without this upgrade.

3. Mallorca is a fairly large and diverse island (about 1-hour end to end), picking your location is incredibly important. This hotel was well located with direct access to the Sea as well as an easy taxi or drive to the Palma or Port Andratx as well as other important places.

Dear Mr. Wesseloh, Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and insightful review. Your extensive travel experience, makes your praise all the more meaningful. We are happy to hear our hotel left a lasting impression on you, and your detailed message will certainly be helpful for fellow travelers seeking an exceptional experience in Mallorca have the oportunity to find us and live such as wonderful experience. The emphasis you placed on the hotel’s direct access to the Mediterranean is particularly valuable, as many visitors may not realize how crowded the beaches can be during high season we consider it one of our main assets to be proud of. The "Red Level" upgrade you mentioned seems to have elevated your stay to another level of comfort and luxury, making your experience even more memorable so we will share this message with our colleages and they will be happy to hear that our efforts have created such a great stay. It’s also wonderful to hear that the hotel’s location made it convenient to explore the diverse offerings of Mallorca. Your note about the island's size and the importance of choosing the right location is very astute and will surely help others in planning their trips. Thank you again for taking the time to write such a top-notch review. It’s not every day that a seasoned traveler is so pleasantly surprised, and your insights will undoubtedly guide others toward an equally wonderful stay. For the second consecutive year we have spent two weeks of summer in this wonderful hotel with unbeatable location and facilities. And in the 14 days we did not move or leave this wonderful bubble of beauty, luxury and tranquility. The lovely GEX, Nicole, fulfilled all our “whims” when it came to assigning us a room, which essentially contributed to making our stay perfect and unforgettable. I recommend in any case a junior suite room upwards, so you can enjoy the unique experience of the hotel's Bali-beds. I also recommend Red Level, although this year they had it a little neglected, sometimes failing both the cleaning and the replacement of snacks and appetizers. Nobody paid any attention to the outside table... And the hostesses should be trained better (almost no one remembers the nice gesture of putting your hand over your heart when greeting). Furthermore, the Red Level cocktail and aperitif service in the afternoon is extraordinary, served on the beautiful terrace of the Amaro bar. The room was newly renovated, so in perfect condition, the bathroom was correct, with a separate toilet and separate shower, rain shower as I like. The bed was super comfortable, the complimentary water at night was appreciated, as was the coffee. Maybe they could think of a solution on how to better darken the room, since the morning sun wakes you up at ungodly hours... Amenities brand "no name", it is known that you have to save, just like with the fruit at the breakfast buffet, bland, it seemed brought of a super discount, when Mallorca in summer has the best watermelons in the world! Of the staff I would like to highlight above all the Maître, Rafael, whose exceptional professionalism, total personal involvement and extraordinary efficiency make the hotel's gastronomy work to total and absolute perfection. Also my special recognition to Martin and Natalia, who took care of us and pampered us during unique and unforgettable dinners at both the Amaro and the Perseo. And my special gratitude and affection to the two breakfast angels, Sylvia and María, who with their personal charm, sweetness and efficiency made each morning, together with the magical surroundings, a unique moment. All in all, once again, great vacation!

Dear Mr. Stuart, Allow us to inform us that there is no need to pre-book the test. At the Check-In you can ask for the saliva kit and you leave than the saliva sample back in the reception one day prior the departure before 10 am; around 11 am our colleagues from the private clinic come to collect the samples and you receive the result on the email provided by the end of the same day. Staying at your disposal for any additional queries you might have, Best regards, Maria Ansalone Guest Experience Manager
