The Blaue Gans, whose tradition dates back 660 years, is the oldest inn in the city of salzburg. It boasts a prime location opposite the festival hall and in the heart of the historic centre, which has been declared a world cultural heritage site, and is only a short walk from mozart's birthplace. We have carefully combined the historic walls of this inn, which is steeped in tradition, with a modern design and contemporary art. The result is a place that exudes a natural feel, a venue for people who like to pursue their own way. we are pleased to accompany you along a part of this way.artHOTEL: more than just a Designhotel, synonymous with the personal freedom for an individual lifestyle.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday whilst staying in Blaue Gans and we were very impressed! Firstly they upgraded us to a larger room with breakfast, and then they left some birthday chocolates and personalised postcard on the bed.
The staff were always very friendly and very helpful - happy to answer any questions / book restaurants / order taxis etc.
The room was very clean and tidy and the location in the old town was great!
Loved the personalised touches - a mini branded rubber duck you can take as a souvenir, and branded umbrellas that you can borrow (and even buy one to take home if you like them).
We would definitely stay here again next time we come to Salzburg.
Thank you Blaue Gans for a lovely stay!

In the time of Corona, this hotel has risen to the challenge of “making lemonade out of lemons”. Establishing creative but practical ways to not only keep this a safe and comfortable place to stay, but also to keep the ENERGY of this artehotel going—the hotelier and his crew have accomplished this.
We loved the art on the walls, the greenery of the garden street-terrace in front of the hotel, and the furnishings of our room. While other posts have mentioned the noise of the street, we enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the central location and historical surroundings at the end of the famous Getreidegasse, across the way from the Pferdeschwemme fountain and the Festspielhaus.( Besides, the sound-proof windows kept out any noise if we chose to keep them closed.) We got 3 great nights of sleep with the windows open! The hotel is a wonderful mix of tradition, “altbau” and modern. Marvelous stone steps in one corridor, modern glass steps in another…old antiques & nouveau art pieces of furniture. The art on display invites the onlooker to interact with it. On the weekend that we were there, a local craftmaker was selling attractive recycled bags in the one hotel entrance. We did not eat at the restaurant, but we did enjoy a night-cap at the terrace bar late one rainy evening. The huge umbrellas kept us dry, the lights from the fountain were a dramatic backdrop. We did make use of the foldable city bikes provided by the hotel. Our ride out to the Hellbrunner Wasserspiele (Prank Water Gardens) was a pleasant one, especially since there several points along the way where street bands played that weekend.
Many thanks to the attentive hotel staff for making this a comfortable and pleasant stay.

Thank you so much for your words! How nice that you noticed our corona concept positively. The safety of our guests and employees is particularly important to us. The positive energy is also very important to us, that's why we make the best of it, or as you say "lemonade out of lemons". We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel Best regards from Salzburg - Julia, reception

What a delightful experience! This hotel has a hip vib that you might not expect in very old building. "Art hotel" indeed, with some quirky and surprising pieces scattered around, including videos, paintings, sculpture and intriguing pieces like a motorized rabbit and several mouse traps in a picture frame. Woodwork in our room was lovely and contrasting to the old, exposed ceiling beam. The beautifully tiled bathroom floor appeared three dimensional. The location just across the street from a bus stop running to the train station (#1 bus) could not be more convenient. The complete breakfast buffet in the restaurant had all we needed. Dining service is either outside or in the same restaurant where breakfast is served depending upon the weather. Easy walk to anywhere in the old town, including just about two blocks to Mozart's birthplace museum. Plenty of cafes and other restaurants in easy walking distance. Walk along or across the river to places like Mirabell Palace where Mozart concerts are held. We only encountered helpful staff who were always smiling. I asked a question about tea bags and got a tour to the Library where tea and hot water were available. The room and public spaces were clean. The room had a safe. Wifi easily allowed streaming. This hotel is exactly what we wanted: not a chain, unique and well located. This is not a cheap place, so check their website to see if the pricing fits your travel budget.

My family of four stayed in two rooms for 4 nights in July 2022. Blaue Gans is a lovely old building that has been thoroughly modernized and is light and bright throughout. Our rooms were incredibly clean, well laid out, quiet, and with comfortable beds. The breakfast each morning in the beautiful dining room was plentiful, delicious, and aided by an attentive staff. The location of the hotel is just perfect for exploring the Old Town (Altstadt) as everything is just a short walk away. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I stayed at BG for two nights in the middle of December.

We'd done our homework beforehand, wanting somewhere that was centrally located in the Old Town allowing us to access the sites - including the Christmas Market - without too much trouble. BG was perfect and even with the large numbers of visitors at this time of year the hotel was a haven of peace and quiet.

We choose a Large Double Room (more like a good sized junior suite). The room was tastefully furnished, very clean and just the right temperature. The walk in shower was a real plus. From the windows, we could see the Horse Pond/Well.

Check in/out was efficiently handled and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Breakfast offered lots of choice, including plenty of local meats and cheeses.

While Salzburg hotels aren't cheap we feel that BG was well worth the money and we'd have no qualms in recommending this place.

We had a very nice stay in this historic building located in the heart of the medieval district, close to salsach river and to all the"must be seen" spots in town. A very confortable room on the top floor and a complete breakfast buffet every morning enabled us to enjoy 3 fantastic days visiting the town. Moreover we tried the restaurant of the hotel on the first night we arrived and It had a very good price for quality ratio. We strongly recomend this hotel restaurant.

We stayed at the arthotel Blaue Gans in Salzburg during our December Christmas Market trip to Austria. This was a wonderful hotel! The location in the old town is excellent. It is just doors down from the Mozart birth house and well within walking distance of the large Christmas Markets.
Our "double room - medium" was very nice, clean, comfortable, and with plenty of space. The large bathroom was outstanding and the heated towel racks were welcome. Despite being in the rear of the hotel just above the outside dining area, the room was very quiet due to the double windows.
We had breakfast included in our room rate and we enjoyed a nice meal each morning. Staff members were friendly and helpful. All in all, a wonderful stay!

This hotel has been beautifully restored and the rooms are modern and of a good size and the bathrooms are great. Staff were really helpful and friendly and the location is unbeatable, being right on the main pedestrian street in the old town. The beds were probably the most comfortable that we stayed in. We didn't opt for the breakfast, as there's a brilliant little hole in the wall coffee shop just around the corner.

We stayed in the Blaue Gans for 2 nights and were positively surprised. The hotel is in a historic building but the room was modern and tastefully decorated. Excellent amenities, including the blue bath duck you get as a present. The location is ideal to explore the town and a 2 minute walk from the public parking. Breakfast was good and we had dinner in the restaurant as well. Can only recommend this hotel

You will need to park in the public parking which is a short walk. Ask the hotel if they have vouchers. The hotel is located in the historic old town so street parking is not available. There is temporary parking for offloading luggage at the back of the hotel.
