This an old luxury hotel at the heart of Salzburg. It needs a little makeover (a chain like Marriott can do wonders to this hotel). We were there for two nights. We arrived around 3 pm and the lady behind the desk was rather condescending which we didn’t like (we later discovered that this was the attitude of most of the Salzburgers towards the tourists. This or outright hostility ). She showed us to our room which was beautiful although very old-fashioned and in need of a makeover. We had a fantastic view of Hohensalzburg fortress from our room. The hotel is right next to Mirabell gardens/palace and close to the old part of town. This centrality makes it easy to access all the attractions.

As for the hotel itself, other than our initial interaction with the lady behind the desk the first day, everything was good. The breakfast buffet was good with cold cuts, bread, croissants, jams, toast, etc. You could also order eggs (omelette, scrambled, sunny side up, etc). The staff was attentive, especially Frau Alexandra.

My main complaint about the room was that the toilet was separate from the bathroom and there was no sink there. My American sensibilities are very uncomfortable with this. The idea of walking from one room to another with dirty hands doesn’t appeal to me. The internet service was also slow as were the bathroom drains. Other than that the room was comfortable and clean with twice a day maid service.

I wish I could give this hotel five stars, but the condescending reception and rooms being in need of overhauls, do bring down the score.

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel in beautiful snowy Salzburg in December. Everything about the hotel is perfect from its location to its old worldly charm, breakfast and size of rooms.

However, what makes the hotel stand out from the others is its staff and in particular Roswita Wurnitsch. There was nothing that was too much trouble for her - she is by far one of the best and most courteous people at reception that we have met. We wanted to visit the salt mines and she took the trouble to map it out for us and even went out of her way to take us out of the hotel to the bus stop outside to figure out the route - it was seemless and we were so glad we visited the mines by ourselves rather than with a tour. This was all possible thanks to Roswita. She was also wonderful in recommending restaurants for us every evening and took pains to set out what we should be doing in Vienna (our next destination). It was lovely to come back to the hotel every evening and be greeted with a smiling face, impeccable manners and a lovey caring attitude. We can’t thank Roswita enough. She is the face of the hotel.

The hotel has an excellent location but it is not located in the old town centre which is only a 10 minute walk across a bridge. It is 2 minutes from the hotel Sacher.

We did not have a good view from our room as we were simply facing the wall of another building so if you want a view then please request this as all rooms in the hotel do not have a view.

All in all an excellent stay and we can’t wait to go back again.

This hotel is outstanding. The Bristol hotel not only has old world elegance, which fits in well with the experience of being in a city like Salzburg, but staff provide the level of old world customer service that is becoming more an more rare. From the moment of check in, we were made to feel welcome. Jonathan in the breakfast room almost became a friend over the course of our stay. Online photos don't do this hotel justice, the character and calm of our beautiful room enhanced our visit to the city. The location is ideal, a few steps from the bridge to old town, and close to transport links in Mirabelle Platz for day trips. The Salzburg card was very good value, and we visited the fortress early to avoid the queues and to avail of free entry into the royal rooms before 11am. We would be happy to return to this hotel.

The building is amazing. Its history is evident and very well-maintained by the management. You feel you are living in an era 400 yrs ago! The rooms are very spacious and decorated according to its history. Even the elevator makes you feel as if you are in the 1800's. The bathroom is very spacious and well equipped.
However, the electrical outlets are few and poorly located.
The staff from foreign countries are extremely courteous and pleasant. However, the Austrian breakfast staff were rude to us at times. They even tried to chase my brother and his family out of the breakfast table on which they were seating, in a very rude and autocratic way. Not hospitable at all.
The Xmas dinner was totally unacceptable! A child playing in the kitchen would have done better. And for 200+ Eu pp Xmas dinner, it was simple mockery. The breakfast buffet was almost every day out of food and juices and we had to wait every time for re-stocking. The glasses were more suitable for liquor shots (way too small).
The housekeeping staff would persistently and loudly bang on our doors in the morning and the evening (although there were doorbells on all rooms)... just to ask us if we needed anything! Very annoying!
Overall, the hotel has a lot of potential, but the hospitality you encounter at check-in can be quickly cancelled by some untrained and rude staff's behaviour.

Whenever I stay in Salzburg, whether on my own or with my wife I try to book this hotel. It is a traditional ‘grand’ hotel with style and ambiance to match. It is centrally located, staff are friendly and efficient, the rooms are comfortable. Little touches make a difference - the complimentary still and sparkling water in the minibar uses glass rather than plastic bottles. The breakfast room features a huge chandelier, there’s a selection of German and English newspapers and the breakfast buffet is excellent. The Bristol isn’t the cheapest place but it delivers excellent value for money.

Old world elegance and old world service standards make for an absolutely wonderful hotel experience! We had a suite (probably the best room in the hotel - room 497) which had amazing views from the balconies of the town and the gardens. The staff was very helpful and attentive and the location was perfect, easy to walk to town yet a bit away from the busy area so it was very quiet. The breakfast was outstanding and the bar was lovely! Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

Regardless of their non-refundable policy, this hotel understood the COVID19 as a world Pandemic, and as such granted my free cancellation for my pending visit in JUne as we are still in lockdown till then. I have been trying to arrange for a visit to Salzburg since eons ago. Rest assured I will be booking with them in future when circumstances permit and for a LONGER period. I recommend them wholeheartedly. As a fan of the Sound of Music rest assured I will definitely be visiting Salzburg and will be staying with the Hotel-Much appreciated

I loved this hotel and now I love it even more, after I read in a review it is a family owned business. My experience started before I arrived with a few emails and requests. All were honoured with promptness. I then arrived late at night and was I promptly brought to my room by a kind women who explained all the little bits of the room. I booked a double room. I wanted a larger room, but I wanted a balcony and it was completely worth it. The view! I will post here. The staff were so friendly and always smiling. Really going out of their way. On my second day, I noticed an item that was not replaced in my room ( not a huge item.. it was a diet coke.) I asked a women cleaning another room for the item. I explained it was not urgent and I could even get the item myself. Suddenly, she immediately ran down the hall to obtain the item. I felt badly and called after her, but she was already on the search for one. She was so kind and it was the theme in the hotel. Always greeted with smiles. The free water and other non-alcohol beverages was a wonderful plus and surprise. The location is amazing. When I return, I will only stay here. The only suggestion would be flatter pillows. I love flat pillows, but this is a personal preference. I am also certain, if I asked for different pillows this would have been honoured, but I did not want to bother anyone with such a request.... I mean, someone already running to get me a diet coke. Look no further, this hotel is wonderful!!!!

Let’s see, was it the warm & friendly greeting at the front desk, or the luxurious old style - not cookie cutter - sleeping room, or the delicious house made cookies left on a plate in our room to welcome us? Was it the fast and friendly service at the bar after a pleasant & scenic but long day on the train? Was it the friendly front desk staff who kindly charged our phones when we forgot our chargers? Was it the free ice cold water in theroom refrigerator? Or was it the absolutely outstanding free breakfast in the morning that included mimosas (bout a 40 euro pp value here alone!)? Or was it that we were left without question to sit and enjoy in the lobby and watch people go by, have a lemonade to sip, and wait for our departure to the train? It had to be all of these that made Hotel Bristol an outstanding five star experience A to Z — that is unfortunately often not found anymore even at five star properties. Thank you Hotel Bristol for making our time in Salzburg so very memorable. With your close and easy location to restaurants, sites, and the old town, I can guarantee you we will be back again on our next visit to Salzburg.

This hotel is ideally located at the Marketplatz, near to all the main attractions in Salzburg. It is one of the grand dames in Salzburg. You can feel it once you step into the traditional lobby and walk along the corridors filled with antiques, ornaments, paintings and tapestries.

The service can be rather slow and frustrating though. From reception to room service. All rather at a snail like pace. Nevertheless, all staff were generally courteous.

The room was a junior suite. Very expensive at 1000 euros / night including breakfast. The suite was quite large, and faced the former house of Mozart. It had a great view of Salzburg Castle. The room itself was very old and obviously dated, but clean and charming. I asked for a bed board which they provided, thankfully. Everything worked fairly well except for the shower which had low pressure.

The breakfast was excellent by European standards. A lovely comprehensive buffet and the staff were all great.

All in all a pleasant experience if you like old world charm.
