Hótel Vík í Mýrdal is located in the village of Vik in Myrdalur. It is nestled under sandstone hills and is embraced by magnificent natural surroundings. The views are stunning as you look out over the beach, to the sea and the Reynisdrangar Pillars, and experience the spectacular cliffs and birdlife where the puffins in Mt. Reynisfjall are only a stone's throw away. Myrdalsjokull Glacier stands guard over the region in all its splendor and there are adventures to be had all around. The hotel has 78 elegantly fitted rooms, decorated with Icelandic design and inspired by the natural environment.

Hotel Vik I Myrdal offers a modern and clean environment that has been frequently praised for its welcoming atmosphere, with a vibrant lobby and an inviting restaurant that guests enjoy. While the hotel's central location in Vik is popular for its accessibility to local sights, some reviewers caution that the hotel may not provide the best value, citing overpricing relative to room size and amenities. However, the included meals and complimentary breakfast are highlights for many travelers. Service is generally well-regarded, with the staff being helpful and friendly, though a few guests have encountered less pleasant interactions. Room experiences vary, with some finding the spaces small yet appreciating the modernity and cleanliness. Overall, the hotel is celebrated for its spotless condition and the dedicated maintenance of its facilities.

We were greeted by a professional and friendly woman at the front desk who got us checked in and provided all info key to our stay efficiently.
Our room had ideal set up for luggage and bathroom items, and after unpacking in the very clean room, we enjoyed a great meal in the hotel restaurant and a walk outside. The Vik church is just up the hill and made for a great place to view the town of Vik and Alaskan lupine covering the hillside.
We returned and turned jn a bag of laundry, which was ready promptly the next morning.
It was very quiet and we had a great night’s sleep here, too.
Friendly and relaxed service was provided by all, including at the breakfast the next morning, which included a wide assortment of breakfast items.
We will definitely be back!

Dear Kristen Thank you for your kind comments about our team and the hotel. We are thrilled to read that you received a warm-hearted welcome and helpful service during your stay with us and that the hotel interior, guest room design, restaurant and offered amenities were to your liking. We completely agree that we are conveniently located in our little village as everything is reachable within walking distance and superbly situated in the South of Iceland to explore the magical natural scenery with its famous sights and hidden jams in proximity. We hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you soon again. Best Regards Anita, Front Desk Team

My husband and I did a 10 day trip around the island, stopping at at different hotel most nights. This hotel stood out in almost every way. We booked a deluxe room and the room was amazing... we had a view facing the black sand beach and cliffs, we could have had a dance party in our room, the shower was SO BIG and perfectly designed, the WC was separate from the shower so we could both be getting ready at once, there was a Nespresso machine in the room and after all the horrible instant coffee we drank in the other hotels this was such a welcome change. The staff was also all fantastic and went out of their way to assist us. Breakfast was good - quite a normal breakfast and similar to the ones we had at other hotels. We are planning on coming back to Vik during our stay in Iceland and will definitely stay here. Thank you!!

This hotel was conveniently located along the main highway through Vik although the entrance was made too mysterious by recent road construction associated with nearby land development. I have heard that Iceland frowns on big branded signs along roadways and this made it hard to guess the approach route to take. Once on the grounds of the hotel, the parking was ample and the look of the hotel nicely matched the brochures even though the name of the hotel is not really in neon. Remember that many tourists arrive at night and "keeping a light on for you" is an expectation. Once inside the entrance (which is really a breezeway between an older original structure and the newer glass and metal office building looking structure), the reception area was obviously placed at the end of the hallway. The restaurant has a lack of ambience as if they decided to serve food in a converted ballroom. The rooms were well furnished with decent views to the seashore on one side of the building and an interesting natural rock wall on the other side. Remember that not all travelers are used to the method of placing their room key in a slot to operate the lights. This can be disconcerting unless an effort is made to instruct guests of that fact before they open their room doors.

Lovely hotel with great and friendly staff. But we booked a (quite expensive) Double room and were given a room in the older building which are adequate but all have awful small bathrooms where the shower is almost on top of the toilet. For the price we paid (280 euros pn), we could have gotten a much better room/bathroom in one of the cheaper hotels in town. This room was almost hostel quality, although the rest of the hotel is nicer.

Our family room was nice. It has 2 floors with 1 queen bed and 2 single beds to accommodate a family of 4. Their bathroom is quite modern as well and the shower has strong pressure. But my only complaint in the room was that there were no hooks to hang our towels afterwards. There's no safe (or refrigerator) inside the room as well, as far as I know. Their breakfast offerings were quite good though. Overall, we had more positive experiences than negatives. However, there are quite a few other different hotels outside that might be cheaper though.

We arrived having survived being beaten to a pulp and soaked by a 100km blizzard on Solheimajokull glacier and an equally challenging drive from there to the hotel in similar conditions. The amazing staff at reception immediately allowed us to take to our soaked gear into the boiler room to dry. They also changed our room from a mountain view to a sea view twin room. So the welcome was excellent and I am very grateful for their hospitality. They also repeated the boiler room exercise the following day after we emerged beaten up by Svinafellsjokull glacier.. ( I know we were gluttons for punishment). As to the hotel itself I found that the public areas were classy modern and appealing and the dining area equally so. I didn’t eat there apart from breakfast and that was plentiful and well presented. The breads were especially good. The bedrooms were perfectly fine and of a high standard and were warm and quiet which given the howling and wailing of the bitter winds outside was exactly what was needed. We also had good view over the town when the blizzards were not blowing we could see the beach and the famous sea stacks which were being spectacularly attacked by mountainous seas. The bathroom was very well appointed and modern and the shower was excellent. The location is good and there are plenty of eating options and shops nearby. Given the rotten weather conditions i was very pleased that we chose this hotel to hunker down in. I highly recommend it.

This is a fantastic hotel in a very a very quaint town. It is modern and beautifully decorated but with only two floors it feels cozy and personal. The staff were professional and friendly, the food at the restaurant was incredible- far better than the upscale dining we had in Reykjavik. The chef here has skill - the breakfast is also extensive with variety and high quality. Our room was quiet and large size with two comfy chairs for relaxing with wine and reviewing our adventures! I would highly recommend.

We stayed 1 night in Vik as it was as far as we wanted to Drive on a 4 night stay in Iceland, window shades were ok, needed to use sleep mask. we ate at the hotels restaurant and it was good, The included breakfast was very good with a great selection from the standard continental to American. Room was cozy and were clean and the bed was comfortable. Room 29 is in the 1 story front section facing the cliffs and birds nesting, Rm 28 faces the front towards the beach. Good price point for the area. a few minute walk to the Black Sand Beach (not to be confused with Black Sands Beach in Nevis)

We booked both the loft-style family suite and a superior king for our family; both rooms were quiet and well-appointed, with stylish design, comfortable beds, and beautiful views of the mountain. Windows opened for climate control. The rooms were lovely, and our stay was very comfortable. The interior hallways show some wear and tear and need updating, though.

The hotel bar was fantastic, with comfortable, stylish seating and the perfect ambience for a nightcap. The included breakfast buffet was extensive and offered delicious options for everyone.

The location was convenient to all Vik has to offer; parking was free and easy. Service was efficient and friendly.

Overall, while we thought the hotel was a bit overpriced compared to other options in the area, we enjoyed our two-night stay and would recommend.

We weren't meant to be staying here but got caught by the road closure at Vik (the road literally closed in front of us). When we found out that it could be for up to 48 hours we made a rapid booking at this hotel.

The staff did amazingly. They went from a partially booked hotel to fully booked in a few hours, yet still managed to provide excellent service. Food was great, as were the drinks from the bar.

They answered any questions we had promptly and were obviously doing their best to handle the influx of guests, all with their own issues and queries.

Should we ever come back past this spot I'd have no issue in staying here again or recommending it to others.
