Detailed Reviews
We had a great stay at the Aska hotel, which was most definitely thanks to the owner's hospitality and kindness. The rooms were clean and spacious enough, and the showers and toilets were very clean. We felt like everything had been renovated recently because everything was clean. The owner was very helpful, she showed us around and told us where to get food late at night. She also allowed us to leave our luggage during the day so that we wouldn't have to hike with it. We reccomend this place

Came in pretty late, after 22u30, but we could still prepare dinner. Slept great, beds were made. Friendly staff and just a nice place to sit and relax. Absolutely enjoyed our stay! Clean showers, cosy and warm halls. And the owner can tell you a lot about the house.

This hostel is conveniently located in the center of town within walking distance from the ferry. It's bright yellow exterior makes it hard to miss and gives it a very cheery vibe before you arrive. We were a bit unsure about the parking situation when we first got there because the car parks right outside the hostel are labelled 30mins only. However we soon found free car parks around the corner.
The hostel looks like it's been newly refurbished or built. The interior is very cosy with lovely wood theme colours. The common area is cosy, albeit quite small. The layout promoted a sense of community - it encouraged travellers to hang out and get to know one another. There were always people hanging out there when ever we walked past.
There is a kitchen area for cooking, but no extractor fan or good ventilation so when people did cook (e.g. the receptionist loved making pancakes for everyone) the whole place got really smokey and smelt greasy. Due to the crampness of the kitchen, we decided not to cook our meals there.
We had room 8 for our night stay and it was a lovely room. Very spacious, with lots of windows and a big couch to relax on. We really liked our room. Because the room was at the very end of the corridor it was also very quiet. The only downside to the room was that it was too far from the internet reception so we were unable to access internet in our room.
The shared bathrooms had the best layout of all the places we stayed at in Iceland. The loos were cleverly separated from the showers to reduce wait time or the need to wait at all. There were four showers for everyone (including the bathroom downstairs) and they were very good showers - excellent water pressure and very clean.
I would highly recommend this place to other travellers.

Arrived early and stored our bags no problem. The hostel is easy to walk to from the ferry so you do not need a cab. I had a private room with two beds looking out on the main street (linens and pillow included). Very quiet at night both on the street and in the hostel. Shared bathroom and showers were well looked after and clean. Towels for rent or bring your own. You can cook there and there are 3 fridges to store your food. It was quite crowded in the kitchen at supper time so we ate out. Nice common area with TV and magazines. Neat cafe next door.

We booked a stay at Aska hotel through booking.com because of the great reviews/looked perfectly accommodating for our group. Unfortunately we had to cancel at the last minute because the ferry to the Westman Islands broke down and we were uncertain when it'd run again. FYI for those traveling to the Westman Islands- I certainly wasn't planning for the possibility of the ferry not operating, but the ticketing agent at the ferry advised us against buying tickets in advance. Maybe this is the fluke day it broke down- my friend booked this part of the travel so I had limited research- but good to know for people who like certainty. I called Aska hotel and explained and followed up with booking.com and my deposit was refunded. It's nice to encounter hotels that understand last minute changes, and we were very grateful we didn't have to pay for an unused hotel room! I'd love to return someday to Iceland & visit the Westman Islands and Aska hotel.

I want to start out saying: ignore the bad reviews!!! We almost changed our reservation after reading the very few negative comments and we are both SO happy we stuck with Aska. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating- even filling us in on local events (it was puffling season), restaurants, tips, etc. They even let us use the washer and dryer for free (as long as it wasn’t taken up by hostel linens). The room was so nice, clean, and comfortable. The bathrooms were impeccable. The other guests were friendly and respectful. The location was stellar: bakery next door, brewery across the street, restaurant connected, just a couple minutes walking distance from the ferry, and the list goes on. We honestly loved this hostel and wish we would’ve planned to stay longer!!! On top of all of this, it was a great value for the price. We will be back! Thanks Aska Hostel!

When we arrived on the island by ferry, it was already nearly 8pm. It is notoriously hard to find accommodations in Iceland in the Summer. On an island with 3500 people, not having a reservation would normally be . . . impossible. When we arrived at Aska Hostel, there was a problem with the reservation we had set up through another service. It showed up, but had not reserved a room for us. And of course the hostel was fully booked! The two nice people working on the front desk called the owner and apprised her of the situation, and she immediately made her own apartment available to us. Just amazing. My Sister-in-Law met the owner at the apartment, which was made up for us fresh, and told her stories of growing up on the island, and in general made what could have been a terrible experience one we will remember fondly. When we went back in the morning to turn the key back in, they asked us to stay for breakfast! The kindness and hospitality of these wonderful people cannot be overstated, and I encourage you, if you need a place to stay in the Westman Islands, do NOT hesitate to stay at the Aska Hostel!! I should also mention that the restaurant right next door, Gott!, I think is excellent, and they were amazingly kind, as well. Overall, if you are going to Iceland, take a day and visit the Westman Islands. Truly memorable.
