Fosshotel Baron stands out for its exceptional service, with staff who consistently go above and beyond for their guests. The hotel's location is a highlight, offering easy access to Reykjavik's top sights and dining options. While the rooms are generally seen as clean and comfortable, opinions on their aesthetics and maintenance vary, with some guests finding them outdated.
The included breakfast receives high marks, yet some reviewers point out that the decor could use an update and housekeeping services may sometimes fall short. Despite this, guests have called out its overall value, though costs like parking and unexpected fees can detract from the experience.

Detailed Reviews
Excellent location, prompt staff, good breakfast buffet esp during winter before you go on your day tours, load up for much cheaper than buying your own food in supermarkets! Has a nice casual bar and coffee in the morning is decent tasting for that morning hit. Room we had was very spacious, comfy beds, cosy bed linen, slept like a king. Bathroom plenty of space, best part was natural cold Icelandic water comes straight from ground and hot water in showers is for body/bathing. Only downfall can get pricey during peak periods!

We came to Reykjavik to celebrate an 18th birthday and 20th wedding anniversary and the trip did not disappoint. This hotel is perfect for a short break as it’s location is conveniently situated for some amazing views of the sea and mountains yet within easy ( 5 to 10 mins ) walking distance of the central shopping area, easy walk to a few of the attractions and most tours will do pick up from the hotel or there is a bus stop right outside.
We had a family room which was quiet, spacious and gave an amazing view of the sea and mountains and it had a good kitchenette facility with kettle for tea & coffee as well as a hob and fridge. The beds were extremely comfortable with warm duvets and good pillows. The bathroom was roomy and clean with a shower which had a glass partition.
We paid for breakfast every day and there was a good choice of hot & cold buffet which was sufficient to keep us going to supper time most days. The waffle maker was very popular ! There was always fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, ham and cheese as well as selection of breads and pastries, scrambled eggs, veg omelette and baked beans etc. The hotel does not do evening food but if you come back tired from a trip in the evening there is a Domino pizza opposite which, although pricey, is most welcome after a long day ! Supermarket is behind the hotel for anything else needed.
Reception is super friendly and helpful and helped us with lots of advice as well as booking restaurants etc.
We were delighted with our room and the hotel and for our short break it was the perfect choice.

Location wise it's good with main attractions like the sun voyager, harpa, Hallgrimskirkja church with 10 mins walking, this goes the same for the numerous bars and restaurants downtown. Hotel looks old and run down, decor looks like it's from the 80's. It looks like a hotel that fosshotel took over rather than built themselves. Saying that though the staff were very nice and check in swift. The room we got looked dated, however it was clean and a decent size. The bathroom was small and dated too but clean. Room came with hairdryer, TV, soap and shower gel, safe, kettle with tea and coffee, however there was no fridge. Heating was adequate and WiFi was good. Breakfast was buffet style and awesome, with numerous hot and cold options. The breakfast was the thing I liked most about this hotel. To sum up the hotel is dated but my stay was fine. However given that the price is similar to nearby newer hotels, if I had to make the choice again I'd check out the other hotels first (including the other 3 fosshotels nearby).

Well we stayed here in January for 7 nights . Cons first....First impressions of the hotel were disappointing as the main sitting areas are nothing like the pictures in the tui brochures. They are very draughty and quite dark as they are opposite the main door which constantly opens . Not really a pleasant area to sit and relax. The bar is only open for a few hours at night but you cannot sit there to eat your own food . They offer soup and bread but three of the nights we were there the soup machine was broken so nothing else was on offer apart from crisps or nuts .
Pros... I have to say that despite the cons of this hotel the pros outweigh them enormously. Yes the hotel is slightly dated but we had a lovely seaview from our room . The beds are comfortable and the whole place is kept spotlessly clean. Only thing is perhaps having two comfortable chairs in the bedroom would be nice. The food is very filling they were able to offer me some gluten free bread on request. They supply a hot buffet breakfast daily tho it's always the same which after a few days gets slightly tedious, there is a good selection of breads, pastries and facilities to make your own waffles. Fruit, cheese ,hams and cold fish are also on offer . You won't go hungry that's for sure. Staff in the hotel were very friendly especially Nora who would go out if her way to patiently explain how to get to places. In fact all reception staff including night reception were pleasant .
I would say if you are thinking of booking this hotel then do so I have tried to give a balanced review . It is close to the seafront and two streets down from the main high street. Both my husband and I have said if we were to return to Iceland we would definitely book here again .

This hotel is right in the city centre, but has lovely view of water and mountains. Walking distance to all, the staff was wondeful, very helpful with everything (excursions, recommendations, advice, etc). The breakfast was good open 7-10am daily, wafflemaker wasa favorite! The rooms are small, but clean and quiet. There's a blow dryer in the bathroom and a small shower (if you're a large person, this will be a challenge). Beds are comfy and flat panel TV worked well and had a variety of channels. I would definitely stay here again!

Really enjoyed my stay here. It is really close to the tourist shops, restaurants and Bus stop 12 (6 min walk away & popular pick up/drop off spot for excursions). Food is generally expensive in Iceland, but there is a Domino's and a burger joint across the road from the hotel. There is also a lovely river and mountains just around the corner.
The staff at reception and in the breakfast lounge were friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. One lovely member of staff opened the breakfast area just for me at 3am because I had an early flight - really appreciate such kindness.
The room was a bit small but chic and cozy. I booked a single room but was pleasantly surprised to find a double bed when I went in! The bed was really comfortable and the pillows were super soft and fluffy. A thermostat would have been useful as it did get a bit cold in the room and I could not adjust the temperature. Great tea and coffee facilites within the room (a fridge would have been useful). There was also a TV with English channels.
Overall, great stay, especially as a first time solo traveller! I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Great location in a quiet, comfortable hotel which is only 5 minute walk to the main Street offering shopping, cafe restaurants, supermarket, off licence and public and tour bus stops.
Its 10 minutes walk from quay and whale watching boat tours.
This hotel is listed on most tour company's pick.up points and offers seating in reception area to wait for collection. There are good supply of leaflets about local activities. The staff were helpful and very friendly.
The breakfast was extensive and substantial, offering buffet style continental, waffles, fresh fruit, various breads, yogurts, cereals and hot food also.
My single room was very comfortable and quiet with a radiator with adjustable thermostat, kettle, tea & coffee. The bathroom offered a shower, toilet, sink and hairdryer. There was plenty of storage space for clothes and personal items and a free safe for valuables.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Iceland.

This hotel is in a great location, walking distance of the town and the harbour and the tour buses were able to drop off and pick up easily from there. The family room was very spacious and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very nice with a lot of choice.

We booked a quadruple room and were given a room with 1 double (2 singles together) and 3 other single beds. We had a very early flight and arrived at the hotel at 10am to leave our bags in the secure storage area, we were amazed to be told that our room had already been cleaned and was ready for us!
The hotel was very well located, we were able to walk to the harbour for boat trips with our two boys aged 8 and 5 and to the Perlan, although we did get local buses back when their little legs got tired. A central bus area was close by, along with a supermarket behind the hotel and many restaurants to choose from.
The breakfast had a really good selection to choose from with something for everyone.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They called one of our trip providers for us when they were late to collect us and they were able to give advice on buses and places for food. We had an incident where our youngest son was sick in the middle of the night (we suspect from eating too much rich food in a restaurant before bed) and we had to go to reception embarrassed and ask for a bin bag and cleaning products. The staff on the desk and the cleaners we met were incredibly good and assisted us, the cleaners in particular said they understood and had young children too.

The bed was exceptionally poor. I can't believe there are still properties out there that care so little about their guests comfort. Clearly they fail to understand that they are simply selling sleep. When the market tightens up this is when out dated hotels such as this will find themselves sleepless. Please invest in better beds....

It was included in our room rate, which was put together from a package, so I don’t know how much it would be separately. If it would be possible to get it included in your room, I would recommend that as eating out is expensive and we found a number of restaurants did not open very early.
They start at 7, but will prepare you a take away breakfast for before then, if you ask.
