Detailed Reviews
I stayed in a lot of hotels during my winter visit to Reykjavik, but this was my favorite. I booked a twin room but was happy to be upgraded to a double upon arrival. The room was certainly small and simple, but that is no different from other rooms in this city. The room was very clean, the bed was comfy and warm, and there was a nice selection of teas in the room. The bathroom did not come supplied with any shampoos or soaps, which could be improved upon. My favorite part of this hotel was the breakfast! It was by far the best breakfast buffet of any of the places I stayed and worth paying the extra fee. The location of this hotel is also fantastic - right in the center of the city, but off the main street enough to be nice and quiet. I would stay here again if I even return to Iceland.

Hi! Thank you very much for your kind words. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us! If you will be back someday, check the drawer under the sink in the bathroom. That is where we keep the shampoo and soap ;) I will pass along the kind words to the staff. Best regards, Hótel Óðinsvé staff

I stayed here with a friend at the end of May in room 208, a junior suite. We didn't spend much time at the hotel aside from sleeping and showering as we were out exploring Iceland, but overall the hotel was fine and clean and conveniently located. A few notes though:
1. There are no clocks or alarms in the room.
2. The smell others noted is the sulfur in the water system that comes from geothermal system. It's perfectly fine and safe.
3. There is absolutely no sound proofing, like others have mentioned. It really wore on my friend who is a light sleeper, and when we called down to the concierge at 1am to ask if they could ask the people loudly yelling outside the hotel door if they could leave, he said he wouldn't do it because he had no control over what happens outside the hotel. It was directly on the block in front of the hotel, so I think that's a bit of an excuse from not wanting to have to do anything at 1am.
4. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant is expensive, so when you have an early tour, we recommend buying some yogurts etc. at the local grocery store instead and keeping them in the mini fridge for breakfast as an alternative.
5. We never put the cue card on our door handle regarding cleaning, yet every day we came back to a cleaned room.
6. There is no room safe.
7. I tried using my blow dryer because I am a snob for my own, and even though it has less power than their in-room blow dryer, it blew the fuse in the room and they needed a handyman to reset it. This was done promptly. The guy at the front desk was a little insulting though - he sort of seemed annoyed that I used my own, even though I said it had less power, but then said "are you sure the light bulb just didn't blow out?"

Myself and my mother have always wanted to come to Iceland to see the Northern Lights so as a special treat I decided to book this trip. Arrival into Iceland was smooth and the airport very good. Beware of the masked highwaymen posing as taxi drivers they will strip you of €130 for a trip into town. The bus is £25 and takes the same time.
The hotel is very well located being around 15 mins from the seafront and 5 mins from the Cathedral and bus stop 8. The staff are very welcoming and friendly able to answer all of our questions. We booked a 2 bedroom suite as it was me my mother and my Aunt. The room was big, beds very comfortable and the room had a dining table and comfortable seating are. Plenty of room for us. The room was well appointed and very clean. The bathroom was good, clean, shower powerful and easy to use. Towels were very good quality.
I recommend their restaurant ‘Snaps’. The food is very high quality and service to match, it’s not cheap but largely in line with what’s being charged elsewhere. I Ate the Halibut which was frankly amazing.
I think this hotel is the perfect spot for a 3 night break and would not hesitate to return.
Bus stop 8 is up the hill next to the incredibly beautiful Cathedral. We took all of our trips from there with Grayline. Again a good company with well organised trips and decent value.
Thank you! My mother really enjoyed her Christmas Present!

We spent three nights at the Odinsve Hotel. The location was great and we were within walking distance of the pick up points for the three tours we had booked. The Hotel was actually very nice and the staff could not have been more helpful.
HOWEVER - despite asking if all the rooms were quiet, when we checked in, we ended up in Rook 108 directly above the hotels restaurant called Snaps. The restaurant has a wooden floor and the chair feet have no protection - the result being that we couldn't sleep for the chairs scratching on the wooded floor every time a guest sat down or got up. Restaurant open until 11.30pm each evening.
The bathroom/shower room was tiny! We are both very slim which was just as well as there was little or no room to move around and the shower was not very good. It was difficult to turn off and on
The food was disappointing - breakfast hot dishes (bacon and scrambled egg) were cold and the chicken in the Caesar salad in the evening was not fully cooked. didn't return to the hotel until 12 midnight, after the time at which snaps closes. Whilst we would normally complain and ask to be moved to another room, (because of the noise from the restaurant and the tiny bathroom) we decided highly or wrongly, that it was too much of an upheaval and also could have meant more exposure in another room and to potential C19.

Stayed here for our first night in Iceland. I had booked for two nights given a 6am arrival from the US and notified the hotel that we wouldn't be arriving until early morning so they would not cancel our booking. I was incredibly disappointed when we arrived around 8:30am that we had to wait for housekeeping to finish servicing our room that SHOULD have been ready the previous afternoon. The hotel is in a great location, though quite difficult to find on arrival. There is no parking, but free parking is available a short walk away at the church and we always managed to find a space. The booking details are quite unclear about breakfast, which it turns out is NOT included, and definitely not worth the price. Staff here were the least friendly people we encountered in all of Iceland.

Responded 21 Dec 2021
Dear Carrie, Thank you for your feedback. Firstly, we would like to apolgise that you were not immediately let into the room upon arrival, per hotel policy the head maid inspects every room for arrivals that day and she unfortunately had not got around to yours yet. Morevoer, we would like to thank you for your comments on the breakfast service and will relay it to our breakfast team, we apologise that it was not up to the standard you expected. Lastly, we pride ourselves on our service, and therefore deeply regret hearing that you found our staff as unfriendly as you did, rest assured our front desk team will be spoken to. If there is anyhting we can do to make any future stays more pleasurable, please do not hesitate to conatct us directly. Best regards, Kristjan Wales - Reception Manager

We booked a room seduced by the photos in this so called boutique hotel.
The first room was so small we could not move around once we had our 2 cases in there and there were no closets just space for 4 hangers. The sink, shower and toilet seem to merge into one.
We asked for a larger room and were shown one that was in disrepair. Our only choice was to pay an extra £30 per night for a larger double room. The room was cold and we had to ask for extra blankets.
We then had 2 mornings of building work being carried out in the restaurant next door and when we complained we were told it would not happen on the next day as it was Saturday! However on the Saturday morning it was refuse collection day!
And when our agent raised this with them here is their response...
"...The Snaps restaurant at the hotel has been doing maintenance as well as upgrading certain equipment. To maximize speed and efficiency towards guests and staff, they utilized time to speed up the process. A waste collection truck just beneath their window is bound to be heard, regardless, plus we have no control over their procedures."
It was such a shame as everyone else we met in Iceland was very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for the first night of our Ring Road Road Trip. The hotel is in a good central location but parking is generally metered. However with a little patience we were able to park for free at the Hallgrimskirka which is a must on any sight seeing visit to Reyjavik. We found the hotel but Reception confirmed check in was not until 3.00 but we did have lunch in the Skins Restaurant which was very good; warning the club sandwich is enough for 2! Having walked our lunch off we checked in and were given Room 106, compact but comfortable if a little tired. Was not easy parking the car near the hotel as the end of the metered period approached. Eat dinner in the town. Main issue was when we arrived for breakfast at 7.30 all the tables had been used but not cleared. Eventually found a clean area and whilst food and beverage were OK we could not find dessert spoons for eating cereal in-spite of asking. Only tea spoons or serving spoons were offered which we mentioned to Reception when checking out. Not sure we would stay here again.

We (familyof 4) arrived early AM on a rainy Sunday and had to quarantine while waiting for covid test results. They managed to give us a small double room for ~10,000K for the day and we were grateful to rest and shower there. We enjoyed their excellent, somewhat pricey breakfast. They quickly changed the hot water kettle when we noted it was broken. Then at 2 PM we moved into our 2 BR Apartment A (Skolavordustigur 7) and it was marvelous. Spacious, well-equipped, excellent location. Online photos are accurate. We bought food from the Bonus nearby for breakfast the next morning. Staff was uniformly friendly, polite, professional, helpful. We only stayed one night but wished our schedule allowed more time to enjoy Reykjavik and the Hotel Odinsve apartment.

The location of Hotel Odinsve is ideal - relatively quiet in a neighborhood while just off of the main city streets which means you are minutes away from the heartbeat of Reykjavik.
The room had a bathtub which definitely helped soak away the many miles of hiking and the restaurant, SNAPS, was excellent in the quality of food, standard of service and atmosphere - its highly recommended.
We have stayed at a nearby Airbnb as well but when comparing price, location and amenities we are more likely to return to.the Hotel Odinsve.

The staff here are extremely kind and accommodating and made every return to the hotel a pleasant experience. Luggage storage before check in is allowed, there are bathrooms near the front desk and a restaurant next door. For early birds, I recommend Braud & Co just a block away. They open at 6:30am and sell the greatest cinnamon rolls you will ever have.
Keys are left at the front desk whenever you leave but retrieval was never a hassle.
Shuttles and tours are picked up from Bus stop #8 next to the big church (you know the one), just a few minutes walk away. Hotel is also a good 15 minute walk from the BSI bus station.
The room features a fridge and an electric kettle along with coffee and tea packets. I never turned on the heat, but the residual heat in the building made the summer nights comfortable. The window shade isn't blackout, but it was enough for me during the sunny summer nights. Small room but ample storage space in the armoire. Bathroom was small and a little worn out but perfectly functional and spotlessly clean.
You might here some noise from the neighborhood bars during the summer, but honestly, you should go out and join them! A great place to stay in a great city.

It's about 30 miles away and takes just under an hour so you'd need transport. If you have a hire car – no problem. There are tours that'll take you there some also factor in a stop off either coming from or going to the airport.
You can use the same bus transport and take it either to the BSI busterminal which is about 10-15 minutes or you can take it to bus stop nr. 8 which is by Hallgrimskirkja, just 2 minutes walk from the hotel.
Yes, you have to pay taxes for staying in this Hotel. As I remember, it is substantial amount, the same taxes as all hotels in Iceland.
We stayed here last year at the end of September, and our room had two balconies. (FYI they are narrow).
One faced the church and the other had an amazing view of Reykjavik (see photos in my review of the hotel). I think it was a junior suite with balcony. I must say the large and spacious room was awesome. As far as the balcony goes, although the views were awesome, at the time of year, we did not put much use to them because it was cold. We actually used the balcony to chill some drinks! Lol
I would say it really depends how much time you’re planning to spend in the hotel room, and what your budget is. If you’re willing to splurge, it is worth it for the spacious windows and opportunity to step out into the fresh Icelandic air! But if you’re looking to save, the balcony doesn’t get you much more. It’s more valuable to walk the city and explore. Hope this helps!
