Fosshotel Rauðará is an excellent base for a Reykjavik centre stay while remaining a convenient location for access to Reykjavik City airport. While just a short walk away from the famous shopping street of Laugavegur and the Reykjavík Art Museum, Fosshotel Rauðará still enjoys the quiet of a peaceful city neighbourhood.

Fosshotel Raudara enjoys a reputation for its prime location, just a stone's throw from Reykjavik's bustling Main Street, making it a hit among guests for accessibility to shops and restaurants. While the rooms earn praise for their cleanliness and comfort, with modern touches noted by some, a number of guests feel an update in decor could elevate the experience. The hotel's friendly staff and substantial breakfast options receive commendations, though opinions on value show some divergence, with additional costs drawing criticism from a few travelers.

Stayed in February for six nights and yeah made a fantastic choice. Its small, very well located on the main street for restaurants and stores. Our room was large, had a small kitchen area with a mini fridge, very functional and kept very clean on the day to day and big bathroom as well. The buffet breakfast is generous and we enjoyed it everyday, looked forward to it really. Nice choice in Reykjavik.

We stayed here at both the beginning and end of our time in Iceland and found that it included everything we needed as we were only in the rooms for a short time. We had a couple of plumbing issues with the first room but the night manager was extremely helpful and friendly with sorting things out. The included buffet breakfast was good and with an early departure flight we were able to have a continental breakfast at 4am. Would stay here again.

Have just returned today from staying in a triple room with my husband and daughter. We really enjoyed our stay here . The triple room was more spacious than we expected and was exceptionally clean . The bathroom was a little tired but the cleanliness made up for that . Yes there was a slight smell from the water but it is only to be expected . The water in Iceland is both lovely to wash in and the cold tap water is amazing . We all really enjoyed the buffet breakfast . The choice and variety suited us perfectly . We particularly enjoyed the seeded breads and lovely small raspberry Danish pastries . The bread is some of the best bread we have had anywhere . I make bread at home myself and wish my seeded loaf was as good . Other points we liked at the hotel was that we could recycle our rubbish , we had the option to make up a lunch if needed and there was a fridge in our room to use if needed. The snacks on offer in the entrance lobby are also useful . Last but not least , the staff are great . They are welcoming and extremely helpful without being intrusive. When we are next in Reykjavik we will definitely return to stay here . We had a fantastic stay and a great short break . Being close to bus stop 13 is also very useful for pick up for the airport and tours . Thank you to all the staff for all they did .

Firstly, whilst the hotel seems far away from the centre of Reykjavik, it only takes 30mins tops to walk into town, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within 10mins walk. When we visited in Feb 2020, there wasn't much better for value, especially when breakfast was included, and the hotel was only a 2 min walk away from bus stop 13, handy for being picked up from when going on a tour.

However, the room, although large, was rather spartan with small, niggly problems; there wasn't a spare electrical plug on one side of the bed (meaning you had to choose between having a working lamp or charging you phone), the window leaked ever so slightly, meaning whenever it snowed (which it did constantly) we had a small puddle form on the window sill, and finally the toilet cistern had a tendency to constantly recharge after flushing, meaning there was a constant noise emanating from the bathroom.

I appreciate these are minor problems, but when combined made for a slightly disappointing experience. However, the breakfast was very good, and the staff were very helpful when we had to reorganize the rest of our holiday when the weather caused road closures.

Fosshótel Rauðará is located walking distance from everything you need to do and see within the city of Reykjavik. From City Hall, Harpa, the Iconic church (name escapes me at the moment), to good eats...this hotel is close to everything!...including bus stop #13 where all tours pick up. The hotel is not the fanciest, but it served the purpose well. Perhaps a little dated, but the FRIENDLY and accommodating staff made up for what it lacked, which was little since you spend most of your time outside the hotel. The breakfast was expensive so we opted to eat out, which we were happy about since we discovered Bread and Co bakery...OMG it’s delicious! We ate there every morning. Consider your stay at Fosshótel Rauðará if you want convenience and friendly service at an affordable price. We stayed 5 nights. I will stay here again if ever I return to Reykjavík.

The staff were friendly and helpful. However the hotel was very understaffed when we visited.

The breakfast were very hit and miss. The beans & scrambled egg were cold most days. The cold meat selection is next to the cheese so many vegetarians would be wary of this.

The room had everything we need and the underfloor heating in the bathroom was much needed when coming in from the snow.

Comfy and cosy, when I first walked into my room my initial impression was "good" rather than "wow". The room however, had some really nice touches: the little balcony was a treat, letting some welcome fresh air into the room, and giving a sneak preview of each day's weather. The bed was also one of the most comfortable I've had in a hotel. Yes, the hot water smells of suphur but it does everywhere on the island, and if you run the cold water for 10-15 seconds it's absolutely fine for cleaning your teeth and filling the kettle (I'm not telling you whether to drink it or not, I'm not your mum).

There was industrial action when I stayed but the cleaning staff made sure we had plenty of towels and coffee regardless, and the reception staff were very helpful. The breakfast was limited to cold foods only (due to the strikes) but still had lots of variety and the price was reduced to reflect this.

Location-wise it was very good for exploring the city but also had some very good restaurants close by which was ideal for the days when the weather wasn't very nice; there is also a budget supermarket conveniently close by. It's on a quiet side road which made for a good night's sleep, but only 10 minutes walk from livelier parts of town.

We stayed at this hotel from 18th -22nd December for a pre Christmas girls trip. I chose the hotel because of the close proximity to the city centre and it didn't disappoint. We could easily walk into the centre of town in around 10-15 mins, along the main shopping streets of Reykjavik

The staff at the hotel are super helpful and very quick to make your holiday even better. The lovely lady at breakfast in her Christmas cardigan made our mornings with her welcome. The receptionists are very knowledgeable and on the day where Reykjavik came to a standstill were able to direct us to a wonderful neighbourhood thermal pool where we had a fantastic time.

The room was incredibly spacious, as a party of 2 adults and a teenager we had a bed made up of 2 singles and a double sofa bed. The room was huge and we could easily move around in spite of having all our cold weather luggage with us. Yes, the shower smells of egg but you're in Iceland which runs on geothermal energy! We all agreed that the water did wonders for our skin and hair.

Rooms had everything we needed, it was great to have a mini fridge so we could keep some fresh milk and snacks in there. TV had lots of English speaking channels, there were plenty of tea/coffee sachets left each day and the toiletries provided were of great quality.

Breakfast was fab, lots of choice and all freshly laid out. The coffee was perfect for an early morning wake up call. I especially liked the inclusion of some Icelandic staples at breakfast time as well as international options. I will definitely be buying skyr from now on!

I'll definitely stay here again of I'm in Reykjavik. Merry Christmas to all the wonderful staff.

We booked our holiday to Iceland through a travel agent and arrived at the Foss Hotel Lind only to be told due to the Housekeeping and Kitchen staff strike (7th to 12th October) that they were unable to accommodate us! Thankfully the hotel had arranged for us to stay at their sister hotel, the Fosshotel Raudara instead on a like for like basis (triple room). Breakfast had not been included in our original booking but as an apology we were upgraded to a free breakfast which was really good of them because I did not consider the last minute change in hotel to be too much of a hassle as it was only a few hundred yards across the street.

I was very pleased with the Raudara. The triple room was quite spacious and bright with lots of storage. Despite the housekeepers strike it was spotless on arrival and we were able to help ourselves to towels and loo rolls from a trolley left out on the corridor should we need them.

The beds and pillows were very comfortable and I had three lovely nights sleep; I'd actually say it's one of the comfiest beds I have slept on away from home. The room was very warm. The Wifi was excellent. The water pressure in the bath was very good and reached a good temperature. The TV worked and showed English channels.

The bar area is in the lobby and even with the main doors opening and closing regularly it didn't feel cold. The bar has a Happy Hour from 5-8 with cheaper drinks. They also run excursions through this hotel but we'd booked in advance elsewhere so I can't comment further and if you ask staff to call a taxi to the airport they will do it at a reduced rate. It is also nearby for the main bus routes and the tourist bus routes (bus stop 13)

The breakfast was a buffet and was really nice, no complaints at all.

All staff we encountered were friendly and super efficient.

I would happily stay here again

The location was great, within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The bus stop was just down the street. We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of our Iceland tour and for an additional 2 nights at the end. Our tour company booked the accommodations for us. We arrived on the first day much earlier than the schedule check-in time and were pleased that there was a secure room to store our luggage while we explored Reykjavik. The guest rooms were a bit dated, but very clean. The breakfast was excellent, with so many choices. The staff made sure that the breakfast items were well stocked and were continually cleaning the breakfast area. The staff went above and beyond to answer our many questions as first-time travelers to Iceland. In fact, on the first day of our scheduled tour, the tour bus wasn't arriving at the time indicated on our travel voucher. Robert (I hope I have his name correct) called the tour company for us and verified the pickup time. Exceptional service!
