Detailed Reviews
We just finished our stay at Hotel Muli in Reykjavik, staying a total of 3 nights.
Upon arrival we realised that our travel agent hadn't given us the correct information to enter the hotel, so make sure you have your booking reference ready. Luckily the hotel manager was on hand to let us in. He was super helpful, told us where to find fresh towels (Floor 2) and gave us some useful information about restaurants and supermarkets within reach of the hotel.
The rooms were fairly basic but pleasant and provided everything that you need. Beds were comfy and you really couldn't hear a pin drop throughout the hotel. Great nights sleep. Rooms were fairly sizeable so you didn't feel like you were living on top of each other.
Me and my partner are both capable walkers so the hotel location was ideal for us. For example you could walk to popular pick up locations for excursions within about 20-25 minutes (Bus Stops 12 & 13). It might look quite far out on Google maps but it really isn't. We even walked to and from the BSI bus stop within about 30 - 35 minutes.
There are a few restaurants within walking distance. We went to the Mexican down the road which we would recommend. There's also a Netto that you can get to easily if you walk behind the nearby Hilton hotel where we stocked up on cheap pastries for breakfast ahead of our early pickup times.
Free hot drinks were a real bonus, great way to warm up after being out and about all day.
Overall I would recommend the Hotel Muli and would definitely consider staying again if we return to Iceland in the future.

Hotel Muli is a great hidden gem. The manager is very nice and helpful when he is there, but this is primarily a self-service hotel. Laundry room with extra sheets, toilet paper, towels, etc are on the second floor (there seems to be extra power adapters there that was left over if you forgot yours). You enter a code to enter the door and enter a code to get your keys. (Sometimes the manager is there to help)
The hotel itself was really clean and quiet with the lobby being an eating area with a simple vending machine, microwave, toaster and free hot drink machine (coffee, tea, and hot coco).
The location is right down the street from restaurants and the Covid testing site. It is more peaceful here because you are on the outside of downtown Reykjavik. The advantage is that you have parking here for free (though limited) and can drive downtown to one of the city’s parking structures or take a taxi.
We got the penthouse room at the top, which worked out because the bedroom and living room were separated. The living room couch turns into a bed which was surprisingly pretty comfortable. The water does stink, but it does in all of Reykjavik because the hot water is from the geothermal source. After showering the smell doesn’t stay on you. I was surprised in our room there was a mini fridge and also an area in the shower was a heated clothes drying rack (this helped as it dried our clothes after being in the rain all day). I would recommend this hotel if you don’t need to be directly in the downtown area as it is more quiet and easier to navigate and park.

My girlfriend and I visited Iceland in January for her birthday and stayed a couple of nights in the standard double room at Hotel Muli in Reykjavik.
On arrival we we’re given a code to enter the front door of the hotel. Then we noticed a phone by the door and a bunch of locked boxes containing the keys. The manager then rang the phone after seeing we had entered and greeted us, giving us the passcode for unlocking our room key. We met him later on in the day and he was very friendly and informative, telling us about the free coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the lobby, where to find extra towels if we needed any, the local Covid regulations and their upcoming changes to them. The hotel is about a 20-25 minute easy walk away from where we got most of our tours (bus stop 12) and a similar distance to most of the bars and restaurants.
On entry the room looked clean and basic but that is all you need if you are going on trips. The cold tap water was drinkable so was able to fill our bottles with it and like all Icelandic water, it tasted very fresh. The hot water had a strange smell to it which we went on to realise a note stating that the hot Icelandic water is heated by the springs which gave off the strange smell! The bed was fairly comfortable and it wasn’t too hot in the room. It came with a tv, fridge, usb charging by the bed and some storage for clothes, however, no safe.
Overall, I wouldn’t stay here if you were looking for luxury or ease but if you are looking for somewhere basic and cheap to stay whilst you go out on all the tours, Hotel Muli is right for you.

I booked this hotel in Reykjavik for myself and my girlfriend for a long weekend and was very satisfied with my stay without being blown away, the price was extremely reasonable for such a crazy expensive country
The hotel itself Is very basic and plain but has absolutely everything needed and didn’t have many faults , the room was spotless and the hotel was quiet. The hotel was self sustained and had no staff par the manager who appeared every now and again. The lobby area had free hot drinks which was a nice touch and check in and check out was quick and easy.
My only real complaint could potentially be the location , it was a 45 minute walk to the centre of Reykjavik , but seen as we had a hire car this wasn’t too much of an issue. It was only an issue the one night we decided to pay the 5 minute 25 pound taxi journey so we could have a drink in Reykjavik , but this was a drop in the ocean compared to the evenings events that led to me selling everything I hold dear and declaring bankruptcy

About a 20 minute walk from downtown Reykjavík this was an easy choice. Great location, value for money, spotless and modern rooms. Check in was simple, you are emailed all of the info you need before you arrive and was a hassle free self checkin experience.
The rooms are modern, clean with plenty of space with hanging space to put your clothes. There is a tv, probably our only grumble was the lack of working English channels, when the weather was clear they seemed to work but as you’ll find out, Icelandic weather is less than reliable!!!! Shower in the en-suite is super nice, spacious. You’ll get used to the slight sulphurous smell, all down to geothermal springs.
There’s no breakfast included but there’s a hub / dining area downstairs with free coffee and hot chocolate, boiling water etc. plus there’s a kettle, microwave toaster, cutlery plates etc … pretty much all you’ll need and it’s only a 15 minute walk to the nearest supermarket.
So all in all if you are working to a budget, you cannot go wrong here. I loved it and would stay here again next time for sure.

I travel a lot and this has been the most pleasant stay I've ever had. The manager and staff went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and that my stay went smoothly. I ended up solo after my friends canceled last minute. The manager was so warm and caring, he made sure I was well advised on safety, opportunities for excursions, food options, etc. They truly bent over backwards for me and were extremely professional. I'll stay here every time I visit! Thank you so much for curating such a pleasant experience.

I was very surprised for the high quality of the service of the hotel. Self - check in and self service. Towels we can change when needed and the manager is very kind and helpful. Hot drinks available 24/7 for free and the atmosphere was really wonderful. Definitely I will chose the Muli hotel next time to stay.

Loved this place. Close to the city center, welcoming staff, clean areas, comfy beds, would definitely recommend. Check-in was a breeze, we received instructions a couple of days before arrival with the code to the entrance and to retrieve the keys to our room. Common areas were super useful, even had a laundry, which we used. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Good food options around as well. Would definitely stay again.

Not to sure how i found this hotel but glad i did, the check in to a receptionless reception was new to me but it worked very well, Oli the manager was waiting for us on arrival to give us our cards.
The rooms were tidy, bright and beds were comfortable, fresh towels, laundry room and free coffee machine downstairs were an added bonus.
The owner was always in and out and happy to chat, even though i support Newcastle and he supports Man U.
He is happy to suggest places to eat or places to go and things to try,,, ie the world famous hot-dogs in the town centre.
Oli has just took over and I wish him every luck in making the Hotel Muli a success, if we ever come back will check out to see if he still has it and book back up.

+1
We stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Muli and I would rate it as excellent. The staff were friendly and beyond helpful, sorting out any issues whatever, nothing was too much trouble, particularly Teresa who was in the office. There was washing and drying facilities which were free to use, this was a real bonus! The breakfast covered all options for us and I loved the fact that hot and cold drinks were availiable 24/7.
The rooms and beds were extremely modern and comfy.
I loved the information phrases which were on the walls of the hotel, it always created a source of conversation as did the post it not review board!
I would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Reykjavik😁
